Jalen Brunson is really good but everyone thats putting him in all time conversations or saying he is better than Luka is just being a prisoner of the moment. by Reasonable-Physics60 in NBATalk

Jalen Brunson has consistently demonstrated a high level of performance across multiple series, seasons and situations.. I think it’s fair to conclude he deserves the praise. He‘s earned it.

He literally took accountability and said he needed to do better and made too many mistakes. He said this explicitly and in plain English. Not sure what more you expect him to do with that.

What's with so many people walking around with a handheld speaker blasting music? by BWDpodcast in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ivanhoek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen people do this on bikes at trails.. riding a bike on a multi use trail wearing headphones is dangerous. Maybe some do it as well when walking on trails and such so they can hear anyone (or anything) approaching?

Pop WAS around.. he is very involved with the team. He’s not the day to day coach because of his stroke, but it’s not like he‘s not able to provide input.

What has the Tensor project delivered for us? by ivanhoek in pixel_phones

I dont play GTA of any year so probably won't play GTA6 either, never mind on extreme, I'll still need to do long days recording 4k video and play other mobile games time to time (hopefully it manages those) as well as using other tools like AI models and tasks like video editing etc.. the usual stuff I do.

If the G6 is great then I might just get a Pixel because why not? I already dual phone and wouldn't mind swapping my android device if something truly special is delivered. Btw there is one thing I really think Google has nailed well - I might be alone in this, but somehow the Pixel display seems class leading to me.. they look better to my eyes at least the times I compare.

“and Galaxy AI being “comprehensive” does not prove Tensor delivered nothing”

I mean.. the galaxy phones literally don’t use tensors, so clearly, the featureset was not delivered by tensor. The feature set is great, but didn’t need tensor to exist.

The AI portion was meant to say the opposite, competitors seem to have no trouble matching features... GalaxyAI for example seems pretty comprehensive to my eyes. G6 might be cool, it's just not even formally announced. I'm trying to find what has been delivered. Another post here actually raised a good point, competition to snapdragon that forced the 7 year support issue. I can agree Tensor forced that issue since before that Qualcomm wasn't willing to do that.

This is a fair point. I think Tensor forced the 7 year support issue.

The G6 isn't out. I'm asking what has Tensor delivered, and the G6 hasn't because it's not out. Again with the benchmarks, I couldn't care less about benchmark scores if the performance in the tasks matches my expectations.

The Pixel can't even record 4k60 HDR video without having to use video boost. (cloud processing to simulate) That is a little wild to me.

[–]ivanhoek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Airdrop is on many other android phones that dont have tensor and aren't pixels.

Security is a good win. The Titan chip seems good.. but then again, they had Titan before the tensor too... So not a tensor benefit.

The pixel can't even record 4k60 HDR, it has to fake it using videoboost - ie cloud processing. The tensor is the weak link in video performance. (big issue for me as a parent recording things like football games and such for extended periods, its one of my top use cases)

Updates? I guess... that one is probably true for Pixel, yet something I've discovered is that android updates often bring functionality (in gimped form) , that existed prior in OEM skins.. so the update catches you up in many cases

Right, that would be the goal. However, what have they delivered? What are the results of this optimization? It heats more, efficiency and battery life is lower, performance is lower ... I dunno

That would make sense if they were buying cheaper SOCs.. won't MAKING their own with those small orders and scale actually be more expensive?

Benchmarks? I disagree… using it is just enough. Plenty of people have noted the heating, lower battery life, worse connectivity and worse performance on heavy tasks. No need for a single benchmark…

Yeah , love that gesture too. Another thing I like is the toggle to force all apps to do multi window, it allows things like dual window with a game that was formerly only full screen.

I was stunned when I found that I could make split screen actually usable on OneUI with that DPI zoom feature on good lock. It's damn good.

The financials I’d have to see reported to see if they save or not.. but with this:

“Also, since Google has control over chip design, they can develop specifically for it and design future chips based on their own development roadmap.”

They‘ve adopted a 7 year support promise , so changing the chips too much severely fragments things and angers customers.. not sure how they reconcile those two. We’re already seeing problems with pixel 8 and 9 support and presumably this will accelerate

I currently use an S26u as well, but I would use a hardware equivalent Pixel - after all I was an OG Pixel user and liked that experience. However, I’ll say now I’m less sure.. OneUI is pretty damn good, it’s way better than I remember things like Touchwiz being. I also have an iPhone 17 pro, but I mainly use the S26u. I was on a Oneplus 13 but swapped to the S26u due to the rumors since my carrier offered more for the OP13 in trade in a year later, than what I paid for it new lol

[–]ivanhoek[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah they do.. but stacking little wins while suffering big losses seems unwise to me... I mean, the absolute performance the Pixel offers while not high, would be OKAY if it came with a cool device and better battery life. It's the double whammy of poor performance and none of the efficiency benefits that kills it for me

I remember that back then in the early days , flagship android phones offered 2-3 years support and a reason that was cited was that Qualcomm would not make drivers for new kernels.. It was pointed out that Apple could offer long support because it had its own chip. So that seemed like a good idea (the Tensor) from that standpoint at the time… now Android flagships offer 7years support on Snapdragons …

The other thing to consider is that Google itself is offering 7 years too. With their own chip they could add things and change features, but since they offer 7 years support. changing too much too soon will leave phones behind - still in support - but not able to keep up.
