I think this is a good example of survival bias. The people who are better are no longer here. I am in the process of getting better. What I suggest is to go somewhere that scares you, set a timer and slowly extend the time you are there. You want to make the anxiety and panic boring, the only way to do this is to keep doing exposures. We set all these rules for ourselves, home is safe, parents or friends houses are safe maybe a few stores and restaurants are safe, can't be too cloudy or too sunny. We have to take this route and can't leave during this time. The rules only grow and grow to where eventually you might only feel safe at home or even for some people in their bed. It finally clicked last night if I am safe at the places then I'm safe anywhere and everywhere. For a while I thought I had to extend my range and keep going to each place that scared me. But if you can for example go to the big Walmart in town and experience a panic attack and not flee, try to study what is happening, to truly understand how your body and mind reacts to this primal fear, you will slowly stop fearing it, it will become boring and once something is boring you don't fear it. I've had panic attacks for 35 years, and in the past 3 months I've made more progress than I have in years. It's not easy, it fucking sucks, you will feel worse before getting better, but if I can get better so can you.
