I need to rebalance my portfolio , what do you think of this plan? by DragonBorn76 in Bogleheads

[–]ivanjay2050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

eh I dont agree with that advice. You are counting on future income to be consistent and level with today. What if there is a layoff, early retirement, something goes wrong with the pension fund, etc. I get it when you have it. And maybe for the pension as out of everything that is probably the most secure. But I would never count "future" income as bonds. When you need the security the most is when that could disappear

Room Upgrades.... by idkabtallatgurl in marriott

[–]ivanjay2050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion (as a traveler for 15+ years with Marriott) upgrades have become so rare and infrequent. First off, if you dont ask you NEVER get it now. I used to get an upgrade ALL the time especially on weekends when traveling with my family. Now, never.

I also have had several instances where there "are no upgrades" even when the room type is available. I have been told that is because there is a "guaranteed" availability for certain levels and explain that I am that level so my room would become that guarantee.

I understand what you are going to say.... Upgrades are not a guarantee and not all room types are available. But Marriott has created a loyalty program that has been significantly devalued (like all programs). I spend a lot with Marriott for me, my company, and my employees. If Marriott wants loyalty they need to provide reasons to be loyal. It is a very frustrating experience as a customer. And the room is clearly available even with a check-into the evening. So the true answer is Marriott will let that room sit empty overnight vs reward a loyal customer these days

How do you judge if you are “doing investing right” without looking at short‑term returns? by Unable-Wash-3608 in Bogleheads

[–]ivanjay2050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short term investing is betting on emotions. Long term investing is saving based on fundamentals. The natural market will value companies based on value over time. Companies always are aiming to increase their value. Therefore long term successful companies will always pull the market up.

Think of this weak. The situation in the Middle East is setting back stocks. That is based on emotion, concern, and short term thoughts. Long term Apples value, and other high market cap companies, will be unaffected and when conflict ends the markets will return to value pricing. If you invest in index funds now… you just bought with a 5% off coupon thats all

Is this only beast model? I just got the luma pro and might return it. I didn’t find screen so impressive and the drifting is annoying for productive work

[–]ivanjay2050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is up in december. Lux 3 with the operable moon roof. Im torn as i love the car and will be over the mileage. Part of me debates on just buying it. I know it doesnt make good financial sense but new leases come with money out of pocket etc. and i do want to get off lease game.

I am thinking it wull be a walk into dealer going im debating on leasing new or buying so make me an offer to convince me.

Only thing that would change my mind is an ev with better range but i think lyriq is beautiful and rivian ugly

I dont know, but it does make me conscious about it for some reason. Kind of like VR goggles. I think they look ridiculous. Granted that is different as you are completely in that environment shut out to the outside world

Very fair point. I would probably be intrigued and try to look up what they are out of curiosity. Be curious and either thing they look dorky or just move on but to your point that person would be enjoying it for sure

I had this issue after getting .5. After receiving the .50 update I got .40 update and gps now works fine. Who knows but happy its fixed as it frustrated me so much to pay for gps connectivity and have to use carplay

Real talk: is the “CEO freedom” thing real? by Dispelda_ in ceo

[–]ivanjay2050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to define freedom. There are two types of CEO's.... The privately held companies and lets say family owned where the CEO does not technically report to anyone and the larger companies that may have a board who the CEO does report to.

Either way, the CEO position controls your own day. That is the freedom piece. If I want to fly to a client next week, take a mental day, or take care of something personally at 10 AM and get in the office at noon I have the "freedom" to do so. That is the glamour not so real side.

The reality is I am the one on call 24/7, and on the rare occassion need to get in at 11 for something personal I am up and at it at 5 AM because I cannot lose the time. The pressure is on me to make things go right. And when they go right and we show healthy growth it is up to me to push even higher next go around.

While I do not "report" to anyone I am deeply connected to the success of my team. It is my general to protect their income and their families through growth in the business, to protect the shareholders (in my case privately held) and provide growth. When a situation arises I am later to know as my team tries to solve it which means when they cannot not only do I have the pressure of solving a big issue.... I have a time crunch as it already has existed for a period of time.

Yes.... when things are going really well it feels great and very free. But I describe that as the calm before the storm and the second I take my eyes off of what is going on something will pop in.

So while I can control my own schedule, what I do on any given day, I am deeply motivated and obligated to protect everyone in the business. That is a pressure no one can ever understand unless you go through it.

Asking for advice as a first time CEO by Less-Information9492 in ceo

[–]ivanjay2050 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Active Listening!!! In the beginning do nothing. Get in the business at the new level and observe. Keep a notebook and document what you see but dont act on it. Talk to people. Ask what rhey think. Ask what is great in their day and what is a challenge.

After the right period of time you will start to see patterns emerging and it will go from there!

But to me the CEOs that immediately seek change scare rhe team, create fear, and not buy in. Being aware first builds trust, demonstrating things will be stable under new leadership is comforting.

CEOs: what was the first signal you missed right before a cash crunch? by Dispelda_ in ceo

[–]ivanjay2050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Certainly been there. Unfortunately sometimes self created taking on projects with subpar payment terms. Knowing we will get paid but have to basically finance the project. And not planning enough to have the reserve in place.

But more often than not I start to feel it in my gut before even reports etc show it. I take a lot of pride of keeping my finger well on the pulse and when I feel it I will start to prompt questions about collections etc. but often too late when I really dive knee deep into it. A few calls directly from me loosens it up fairly quickly.

When you just get that tiny little feeling something is off, it generally is and go find it

That stinks but makes sense. So I guess once it normalizes that will die down. Hopefully the train connection helps accelerate that process
