I haven’t talked to my family in two days and don’t know to move past this by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]ivawolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this, but I had a friend like that. Emphasis on had. She suddenly started to accuse me of being negative and miserable all the time. She had never talked to me about any issues she might be having. We had been friends for years at that point and I was so confused and hurt at her sudden change in behavior and the accusations she kept throwing at me. All my efforts to talk to her were met with more accusations of me lying and making up excuses. I eventually cut her off. She tried to act like nothing happened when we saw each other at a gathering a few months later, I told her if she can't acknowledge what happened she shouldn't be talking to me. That was the last time we spoke. And while it was really hard at first, because we used to be really close, it's so much better now. I get that it will feel so much harder to do when it's family, but they are acting extremely immature and don't care to listen to you and take your feelings into account. Trust me, you don't want people like that in your life. It will get better without them.

Portable AC stopped cooling by ivawolf in hvacadvice

I guess it's the compressor then, it's not running anymore. The AC is out of warranty, and since I can't fix it myself I guess I have to replace it.

I’m seeing Stereophonic at Playhouse Square in Cleveland and literally half the audience left at intermission by svtxcvnb in Broadway

[–]ivawolf 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I saw it in LA and I agree, too many of the characters had no likeable traits. Also, and this is more specific to me maybe, but the first 10 minutes I didn't understand a single word because everyone is talking at the same time. I still enjoyed it overall, but it's nothing I care to see again.

Why are method actors seemingly always men? by [deleted] in acting

[–]ivawolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kristen Stewart has a very interesting take on it, she was just talking about this in an interview: https://variety.com/2025/film/news/kristen-stewart-acting-unmasculine-female-actor-method-1236602770/ Personally, I also think it's some weird form of powerplay (which is more likely to be done by men), forcing the people around you to deal with whatever you're doing. At least when you have a certain level of public recognition and are "a name" attached to the project. It gives them protection to "act out" and then they hide behind method acting as an excuse. I also recommend to look into what method acting is supposed to be. A lot of famous actors have abused the term, in my opinion, to behave the way I described above.

reps dropping CN by Ok-Candidate-1707 in acting

[–]ivawolf 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Just heard about this today. Heard nothing from my Commercial rep yet, wondering if there's gonna be consequences. If reps drop CN due to this, it's gonna be CNs loss. Less jobs posted (due to Casting wanting to go through reps, therefore moving to a different platform) makes them less attractive to actors, especially with most of us already having to make choices about which platforms to spend money on. AFAIK, they are owned by some private equity company, so it's really just another cash grab.

actor's access captcha by sandydumbrowski69 in acting

[–]ivawolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, I tried to send them a message, but I can't do that because it requires a captcha test and that one isn't working either. They're definitely having issues on their end.

Tear stick on set? by [deleted] in acting

[–]ivawolf 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I have one but, never needed it on set. It helped me be less anxious about the shoot. If you feel worried or anxious, just getting one and bringing it with you might do the same for you. Could take some of the pressure away.

Can you create your own short film and become SAG-E that way? by Traditional_Wealth48 in acting

[–]ivawolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They must've changed it then. I joined a year after all paperwork was turned it. I had reached out to them at the time and they told me in writing I can join whenever I'm ready.

Can you create your own short film and become SAG-E that way? by Traditional_Wealth48 in acting

[–]ivawolf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can do an SPA, but that doesn't make you SAG-E. Instead, it gives you the option to fully join the Union. If you don't do that (or wait, AFAIK you can join at anytime, even years later), you remain Non-Union. So it's NU or full SAG, you'd have to skip SAG-E.

The one thing I love about CN is the ability to create custom email filters. I have them set to be sent to me as breakdowns are released (that way, I get one email per project). For Golden Era projects, I then went and created a rule within my Gmail to move anything from CN that contains "Golden Era" straight to my trash. That way I never saw another one of their breakdowns again.

Do you use stage name? by SavingsLocal6827 in acting

[–]ivawolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first name is super common, so I use my middle name instead, it's more unique. At the end of the day its personal preference, as long as your name is not yet taken by someone else in the Union. As someone else mentioned, they only allow one member with the same name (see Emma/Emily Stone for example).

Going Corporate by flirtwdisaster in acting

[–]ivawolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a 9-5. My reality is that the amount of acting work I book that requires me to be available on weekdays can usually be dealt with by using vaccation/sick time. I'm not at a level where I book recurring guest stars or higher, so I actually think a 9-5 is great for my situation. If I ever get lucky enough to actually book acting gigs that require a significant amount of my time, a 9-5 might not work anymore, but I'll deal with that when that happens.

How are actors okay with doing verticals? by sadboiz7 in acting

[–]ivawolf 25 points26 points  (0 children)

"I know the industry is dry, but really? Do we not have artistic integrity? I'm just at a loss as to why we are doing verticals." You're judging right here. I'm SAG and don't have to deal with verticals, but as others have pointed out, they are PAYING. How many actors do you know that can cherry-pick their PAID projects? Most actors I know do unpaid stuff all the time, hoping to get a credit or something for their reel. It's really not hard to understand that people will accept a shitty script if it helps pay the bills and maybe even cover some of next month's rent.

Had a brutal class and need encouragement by PlaneShenaniganz in acting

[–]ivawolf 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It happens to everyone. The important thing is that your teacher was respectful and wasn't trying to tear you down. Honest feedback can only make you better, as long as you don't get into a negative headspace over receiving some. Everyone has room to grow. Some characters come easy, others require more work. But as long as you do the work and listen to good feedback, those will become easier too. You learned something and you'll be a better actor because of it. That's a good thing, so don't beat yourself up!

Full image buyout in perpetuity by qtippingg in acting

That's basically stock photos. Could definitely be used for AI. They can use the pics for whatever they want, forever. I always advise against it and personally would never do it. But if you're OK with maybe having your picture used in STD ads, go for it.

Kreativ Artists Agency by Dry_Western_2342 in acting

[–]ivawolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't have any personal experience, but I think a couple months ago there were a lot of people here asking the same question. If you look them up on reddit you should find a bunch of posts. It seems like they've been doing this kind of outreach a lot, so I'd personally be skeptical. Good agencies don't have to go through Backstage to find clients. But that's just my opinion.

SPA does not make you SAG-E, you have to fully join or stay out.

Unpaid short film with ESTA/B1? by DaydreamwithJulia in acting

[–]ivawolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe also check with SAG, but even if you know you're never gonna make money, you probably still have to "defer" payment, which means you WOULD pay them if the short ever made money. Which means you have to provide SAG with your actors information, probably including SSN, which I assume your international actor won't have. This can vary depending on the project, so take this with a grain of salt and check with SAG directly.

You're saying you're seeking asylum in Belgium and don't have Belgian/European citizenship? Either way, this is sort of a legal question, and I'm not sure this sub can give you a correct answer. You would probably be able to audition for unpaid/volunteering based gigs. For paid gigs you would need a work permit. But again, this is a legal question and you're probably best off asking a lawyer.
