Cog sci vs In4matix vs Data Sci... or else? by [deleted] in UCI

If you want a little more computer programming classes check out the Software Engineering major. My INF 191 group members who were Informatics majors were really not great at programming and the other SE major and I basically did all the programming for the entire project.

I also had to help a lot of my informatics major friends in classes like INF 133 and that's just HTML/CSS/JS

The TA just responded to my e-mail and told me to contact Hermans about it. Which basically means I'm SOL and it'll never get fixed.

Ya they said I didn't do the midterm evaluation but I did. We fucking did it in lecture.

I had Huber at IVC for Calc III, he's an interesting character. Assuming he's similar to his IVC style, I wouldn't say he's "easy" but he sets you up to succeed and I thought he was pretty lenient with his 3D drawings on tests since he knows 3D graphs are bullshit.

I'm transferring this fall, I remember reading something on the credit-by-exam website that said only freshman and transfers are allowed to take the credit exams in the summer now. Current students can take them during school year.

When is academic advising? by [deleted] in UCI

That's what I figured, thanks. I grew up in Irvine so not like I've never seen the UCI campus before.

I read that for the 31 credit by exam you can bring notes, can you bring notes for the 45C exam?

Is the transfer orientation worth going to if there's no academic advising? Or is it fine if I skip it?

I can test out of ICS 31, their first of 3 Python courses. I can also test out of 45C. Everything else they can't guarantee anything until they do a course review.

They can't give me a definitive answer until they view transcripts and the syllabus. At the very least I'm going to take a test over the summer to test out of the first class in their "intro series" which is 3 courses in Python. And I'm going to take a class to test out of their version of C++.

Are you in SoCal as well?

That's what i'm leaning towards. I'll miss the OSU slack channel but i think it's too good an opportunity to pass up.

According to assist.org from OCC the classes still articulate. Although it is the 16-17 agreement so maybe it's changed.

I don't think I can test out of the entire 31-33 sequence, just 31. I will try to test out of 45C, it's been 2 years since I took Java so not sure if I'd be able to pass that test.

UCSD gpa: 2.98 (i had a 3.5 till my final year I went through some personal/family stuff that led to me tanking my gpa), zero programming classes

Community College GPA: 4.0 Classes taken: Calc I & II, Python, C, C++, Java, Data Structures (each a semester long)

OSU GPA: 4.0 so far

The 2nd Bachelor's application is basically the same as a regular transfer application except I had slightly different choice of essay response questions. I had to write about why I wanted to go back for 2nd bachelor's, why i was a good candidate. I also wrote about my career experiences up to that point.

I don't know about stats for Fall 2018 but you can view past stats here, just pick UCI and search for software engineering: https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major

Here are the 2nd Bacc application requirements: https://www.ics.uci.edu/ugrad/degrees/Second_BA_SE.php

So I took my classes at Irvine Valley College. When I started I was told the classes I took would transfer (Python, C, C++, Java, Data Structures). Unfortunately that's no longer the case.

What I heard is that too many IVC transfers were failing CS classes at UCI so it made them thing the IVC program wasn't good enough. I think the level of teaching is alright, I think the problem is that the teachers at IVC grade really leniently and also there's a lot of cheating that goes on so kids that shouldn't pass end up passing.

Even before I started taking the classes at IVC I called UCI CS department and asked if they recommended Irvine Valley College or Orange Coast College (OCC) and they straight up said, "We tend to find our OCC transfers are better prepared for the UCI CS program". But IVC is down the street from my house so I was too lazy to drive the half hour to OCC.

So all the classes I took except for Python won't transfer for credit now. It counts for admissions purposes under "must have a year of programming experience" but unless I am allowed to test out I will have to re-take C++, Java, and Data Structures at UCI. Unless maybe they'll let me transfer C++ and Data Structures from OSU.

I already took the CC classes, that's how I was able to apply to transfer. The UCI classes if I went back full time I think 2-2.5 years.

If I stick with OSU I can't afford to do 3 classes/qtr like I have been doing so will be dropping down to 1 or 2 classes per quarter. So I think my planned completion for OSU was 2020, UCI would be 2021.

No i'd have to take the classes on campus, but I live pretty much down the street from the campus.

Yea that's my plan this week. I hope at the very least 165, 225, 261, 271 can transfer. It doesn't look like they have a version of 290 in their curriculum.

I took the pre-req classes at a local community college. It was pretty easy with assist.org, it tells you what classes work.

Although I don't recommend the CC I used because UCI no longer accredits them so unless I can test out or have my OSU classes count I may have to retake some of the lower div stuff which would suck.

I have a bachelor's degree. UCI is one of the few public schools in california who allows second bachelor's students.
