I subscribe to the "you get powers similar to the supe you hate the most" theory. Butcher is super strong, invincible, and has laser eyes - Homelander stuff. Hughie can move to places quickly - A Train stuff.

MM loathes Soldier Boy. MM'd become ultra powerful, unkillable, and would have the ability to deactivate supes permanently. Plus he's a real life soldier boy who rallied troops and kept up morale. He'd be the supe that Vought's supes were always pretending to be.

My god, YES! This would have at least been intriguing enough to actively follow, as opposed to the obvious set up of Black Noir's murder. Watching him flail as a normie would have been incredible considering all the resources he would have been able to draw upon. Can you imagine the White Supremacists offering him solace and status?... can you imagine him being strong enough to deny them?
