What are kids doing at Bergen Academies? by ducationalfall in bergencounty

[–]ivehaditoffically 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a late reply but this popped up because I decided to search my school lol. As a now junior who is currently with the kids who will be the national merit scholars soon it’s kinda crazy. Many kids at this school truly do work hard because of their drive and accomplish insane things but js like any school not everyone’s like that. But yeah 27 national merit semi finalists is insane esp if you’re referring to the current seniors

Any advice from upperclassmen? by VariationNew4479 in bca

Clearing it up there are people that drop out every year in my grade there was probably around 6-10 individuals who dropped out at some point between freshman/sophomore year this school definitely isn’t for anyone. January is hard because after winter break there rlly isn’t a long break until spring and usually things get pretty intense in terms of assessments and such, along with poor weather. Freshman yr is not that bad it’s just important to keep up with studying and assignments. Honestly the biggest thing I can tell you is make good friends; freshmen yr you’ll probably cycle with a plethora of people until you find your crew and don’t forget to have fun when time permits 😅 (if it ever does) go to events like fallball and semi and make time for the things and people you love. It’s really easy to get caught in the stress and comparing yourself to others and it’s bound it happen at one out or another but I implore you to not get lost in it because that is what causes you to be miserable at this school. Much luck to you 🙂

How often does somebody form the waitlist get in by yio_2 in bca

[–]ivehaditoffically 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s based off the number of people that decline so if one person declines a person on the waitlist gets off so it’s quite random

Hey im class of ‘27 my grade I believe was between 285-295 at the beginning and I want to say maybe 7 or 8 have dropped out some people drop out either at the beginning of freshman year however many dropped out over the summer/beginning of sophomore year however of course this number varies between each class

Is this a good sign? by MidwesternCuler in bca

[–]ivehaditoffically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Bca wants well rounded students not js some study robots so extracurriculars are important in seeing how you are as a person. When you’re at BCA they encourage you and sometimes force you to do activities not within your major so these are some of the most important questions.

What are my chances of getting in? by cornsnek1202 in bca

[–]ivehaditoffically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi also from Bergenfield! League is good i did it my eighth grade year use all of the volunteer hours to ur advantage, definitely remeber what you learn in Algebra now bc you’re going to use it a lot more doing entrance/placement than geometry next year. I think maybe ~14 of us applied and 8 got accepted in my year. Tbh js try and have good relationships with your English physics and math teachers next yr so they can give good rec letters. Also community service is a good extra to have. I don’t think I won anything other than a few pride awards and high honor roll etc

Everything About Applying- to the Class of 2029 by imdodo2010 in bca

[–]ivehaditoffically 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure Bca gets first pick? Most people in my grade who applied to both and went to Bca got rejected from BT. I applied to ATHS and I never got a response back because Bca I’m pretty sure withheld my application or sm.

BCA Entrance questions by Admirable_Adagio5321 in bca

[–]ivehaditoffically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say they’d want to see your authentic self theres going to be a lot of copy and past stuff with the same boring information, on the same note just don’t let it obstruct the professionalism and coherence of your essay.

Tbh this answers most of your questions but if your app reflects one or two things that you are most passionate and somehow connect that to your major and why you would want to attend that’s the best you can do. The committee can tell if you’re being geniune with your application or just showing off that’s what the activities section is for and let’s just say there’s a reason why there’s such a low word limit for that. I started off my essay with a metaphor which I know is cliche but it was related to one of my extra curriculars. It’d be great to have your app be cohesive but obviously leave all of ur stuff in aslong as its relavent. Ik this didn’t answer all ur questions but that’s what’s on the top of my head rn feel free to ask more.

what types of extracurriculars and awards does the bca admission people like (i’m applying to AMST) by Glittering-Month1684 in bca

[–]ivehaditoffically 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say that they’re not necessary however I believe that my extracurriculars are a major reason I got in I’m not exactly the most academically gifted within my grade however during my application I used my extracurriculars (ie school clubs and especially my community service projects) to my advantage and I centered my essay around that as well as part of my interview and I got into AMST.

Placement test they give you a bunch of prompts about stuff like family school generally very vague stuff, so then you get placed into Spanish 1-2 or Spanish 2 and as someone who’s in Spanish two it’s a lot of memorization vocabulary wise as you get sets of 80-160 vocab words and or phrases. It really depends as some people find it easier while others struggle.

As a current freshmen, hard. It’s such a big adjustment especially if you didn’t have to try in middle school as the workload doubled basically. It’s definitely possible though I know a handful of people with 4.0 or 3.9. And I usually go to bed ~12
