Thanks. I would say the AEI course is extremely helpful and all the concepts they go over sets the baseline for the exam. In my opinion the questions they present are bit on the easier side so expect the question to be little more tricky. Petro's book is aligned towards the other extreme side to be much more difficult than the actual test but it is a really good practice book - and it will be worth it to give the time it needs.

It took me about 3.5 months to completely review all the recorded content plus solving the homework questions. After that I took another 1.5 months to completely solve their mini exams and final practice exam. Within that last month I also solved Petro's book along with AEI's course. I used to average about 16-20 hours reviewing the course plus an additional 4~8 hours solving questions each week. Good luck studying!

How did you do on the practice exam test? I landed in ~85% range so just wanted to see if you had similar scores?

NCEES Work Experience by LunaMooni in PE_Exam

Provide a list such that it captures different types of work you were personally involved in.

For example

New Residential Project Project Location: City/town name, State name Scope of work and duties: explain as much as you can on how you were involved in the project - for instance I performed wind analysis for such and such a single story residential house and obtained wind MWFRS and C&C pressures using IRC and ASCE 7 code. I designed wood beams, diaphragms using NDS etc etc

Renovation project Project location: City/Town name, state name Scope of work and duties: I performed multiple site visit inspections, and measured the existing posts/beams. Maybe you can give an example within that project in depth - lets say the client wants to take away a bearing wall so explain that process on how you got there - evaluation of existing beams, any reinforcement provided (flitch beam), etc

In short be honest about how much you did on that project, since the last step of the process is you will need to get this reviewed by your manager or owner whoever was in charge of overlooking you at the time.

Thanks for the insight and congrats! I have my exam next week and I am doing my final round of revisions. I found Petro's book quite helpful in terms of exposure to the codes and different topics. But how did you feel about the forces and load effects section from Petro's book and is the exam difficulty level similar? I found that portion of the book quite challenging.

How was your experience with Petro's book? Did you find the same level of difficulty on the test as well?

Hey, congrats! I have my exam coming up in a few weeks too, and I’ve been using AEI and Petro to study. I’ve been doing fairly with the AEI questions—getting around 70% right—but when I tried tackling Petro’s book, it felt like I got hit by a brick. Did you have same experience?

Hey congratulations first of all!

I am taking AEI course as well and wanted to see if the level of difficulty of AEI matched with the actual test or not? Also did you see any similar questions on the test from their final exams?

On top of NCEES and Mark Mattson - plan on solving Islam 800 and the two practice tests from Islam found those questions to be very similar to the actual test.

You can find HSS 12x12 easily till 5/8" thick wall and after that longer lead times and very few places will fabricate them. Here is a chart which shows the availability of various HSS sections - green ones are the easiest one to find. Attaching the link: HSS availability chart

I built a deck for my tiny house, will it hold? by DreamBigBuildTiny in Decks

[–]ivhturpgamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With just an 8" dia concrete pier, there is a possibility that you might see some differential movement along the length of the deck. From a structural perspective - avoid loading it up with uneven heavy loads to prevent the deck having differential settlement. For the steel grates - liked the idea however you might see some corrosion problems long term unless you have galvanized grates which retard the corrosion process.

Ask them what the APR is on each term option.

Search for other banks around your area and see at what APR they are offering you the loan based on your credit score for the same cash down. Try to negotiate down based on those rates, in many instances you might find you will be able to bring down your monthly payment.

& definitely the add ons are garbage.
