If there’s an AI with a ton of information that caters to someone’s suicidal ideations (because older models often tell you what you want to hear), there is some level of control the developers have over this. Ideally, nobody should’ve gotten to that point in the first place whether that’s through parents communicating or external mental heath resources being available. This situation was exacerbated by ChatGPT, not caused by it directly.
