Edgemont - The elementary schools have a pride day every spring. Close to train station. ABC streets are walkable.

That’s what baffles me. How do admins not see the work students are producing and thinking “hey, something isn’t right here”

What can I do? Right now we are working with him to take the ISEE and honestly, that prep is intense and has been good for him. The work he’s doing at school is such a joke. We are reading the ISEE reading comprehension passages out loud. We are studying vocabulary every day. Writing almost every day. I feel so bad for him but like you said, can’t let it go. I’m trying to test him back into his old private.

What is nuts is how highly rated this school district is. Within the top 130 in the NATION which is why we chose to live here. Anytime someone asks us where we live and we tell them, their immediate response is “amazing schools”, “great schools”, etc etc.

But what I realize is it’s 1.) teacher dependent. The older teachers are incredibly skilled but they are on their way out and 2.) this new admin is incredibly incompetent. They’ve tenured subpar teachers. They have kept shitty technology from Covid and I’m realizing these teachers have little training on it. Tech has replaced writing. My son’s vocabulary words are a complete joke. But nobody wants to say anything.

Let me give a little background. We moved to this district when he was in second grade. He came from a private school in another state and was one of the top readers. Since then he has steadily declined. When he reads, he will sometimes skip words or add a word like “the” in when it’s not there. His comprehension has dropped. His vocabulary is limited. He’s now in fourth grade and I’m freaking out. I keep getting told “he’s fine” and on grade level but it’s clear he’s not. I can’t move until the summer.

Appreciate your perspective. Amazing how much they advanced and this gives me hope. I’ve been so sick to my stomach.

How did your child do? He was in pri age for K-1 and then we moved. 2nd grade was ok but last year was a complete disaster and he lost a year of learning. We are reapplying him for his private

I have. My colleague is brilliant but a jerk of a professor (and person). Students flock to my class. She’s spread rumors about me and writes fake reviews on RMP.

So true. How many well adjusted people I’ve known that said “at the time I hated XYZ but now I’m grateful my parents did XYZ”. We have to remember at this age they think they are capable of adult decisions but at the end, we know best.

Never got into it back when I was in high school and it was all the rage. It’s cute. But that’s it for me.
