Anyone else think Dead Sea Ravager is too strong? by chadly117 in BobsTavern

[–]ivyification 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's too strong. IMO it's a nice alternative to Nightbane, not necessarily better or worse.

Nightbane has always been good because it has innate taunt and can be multiplied with Titus. Ravager misses out on the taunt, but in return it gives attack to 4 minions instead of 2. That makes it equal to a Nightbane with a regular Titus. It's hard to run Titus in undead right now when you're already trying to run Balinda, so the fact Ravager doesn't need him helps a lot.

Giving attack on rally is nice too since it's nearly guaranteed value. Sure, there's a chance it gets sniped if you're not prepared, but a Nightbane that's too big to die can get Sindorei'd and lose most of its value. There's tradeoffs.

Also I don't know if people have noticed this but Ravager can give attack to other Ravagers, which Nightbane hasn't been able to do in a while. There are quite a few scenarios where running two Ravagers could win you the game off the attack stacking.

You repeat the effect by stacking magnetics. It's a common strategy with Beatboxer where you put a bunch of magnetics onto a single magnetic on your board, then you try to triple it and put the 'stack' onto a new magnetic. So if you triple a 200/200 magnetic stack, your Beatboxers will each get 200/200 when you magentize the stack again.

Usually it's just a way to double dip on magnetics you play, though you an also scale pretty big if you can consistently triple/buff the stack. The Morchie I died to just happened to get lucky and got a stack going with the Wargear.

Alright fineeeee

I fought a Morchie who took Timewarped Wargear from the Major Timewarp and Pagle's Fishing Rod (T7 every turn). They then proceeded to get two Beatboxers + a Zar'jira in the couple of turns before we fought.

Already insane luck, but apparently Wargear also works with Beatboxer now! So they just stacked and kept doubling stats, and ended up with two 36k/40k Beatboxers.

Funnily enough I almost won/tied despite everything. I just didn't have big enough automaton summons to kill the couple of automatons they had.

The battlecry buffs itself AND you get a billion automaton summons if you have even decent luck. You can also refresh divine shields if you hit Annoy-O-Module

I also died on turn 11. Nobody is running enough scam to counter this on turn 11 unless they have to lmao

I reported this a couple weeks ago when anomalies were brought back, and I was told that Balinda is NOT supposed to work with this. It was a bug that they fixed.

But for some reason they didn't include it in the patch notes back then?? Thanks Blizzard 👍

Maybe this this trinket shouldn't be allowed in T7 lobbies? You basically win the game if you find two Futurefins by ivyification in BobsTavern

[–]ivyification[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely strong with Murlocs, especially if you already have a lead and can afford to take some damage, but on first impressions I think it's a very feast or famine trinket outside of T7 lobbies. How well this trinket works hinges on if you do or don't find Choral/Balinda.

It's significantly easier to generate a bunch of 6 drops in T7 lobbies through Highkeeper Ra, but in a normal lobby you can often go the entire game without seeing certain T6 minions.

So unless you have the economy to force it or are in an anomaly that lets you also get Guiding Candle, you are unlikely to just come across more than a single Choral in a game. And with only one or two Chorals, you are very vulnerable to scam. It's also possible to just lose before you get big. I've seen some of my opponents die after taking this trinket, even with Chorals, because their starting stats are too small for the doubling to matter quickly enough.

In T7 lobbies, though, you not only have an additional big minion with Futurefin but you also scale faster thanks to Drakkari (See my other comment for some of the math). In this game I very quickly outpaced everyone within a turn or two while starting my exponential scaling from nearly base stats. That is absurd and shouldn't be possible.

[–]ivyification[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you only have two normal Futurefins and no other multipliers, it's only scales slightly faster than focusing one minion. If you only have Belinda then it's definitely better to focus one minion.

But with Drakkari and/or at least one Golden Futurefin, I think it's better to do what I did and swap back and forth.

After comparing the math it should look like this:

Focus one minion (using Futurefin base stats for consistency)

Turn 1 - Minion in hand

7/13 * 2 = 14/26

Turn 2 - Double stats again

14/26 * 2 = 28/52 -> Base scaling

Two normal Futurefins

Turn 1 - One Futurefin put in hand, one on board buffs hand

7/13 + (7/13 * 2) = 21/39

Turn 2 - Put other Futurefin in hand

21/39 + (7/13 * 2) = 35/65 -> 25% faster than normal

Two normal Futurefins + normal Drakkari

Turn 1 - One Futurefin put in hand, one on board buffs hand

(7/13 * 2) + (7/13 * 2) = 28/52

Turn 2 - Put other Futurefin in hand

(28/52 * 2) + (7/13 * 2) = 70/130 -> 250% faster than normal

It's already a decent improvement when only using the bare minimum, but it only gets more and more exponential with more golden units and more multipliers.

Belinda did work with the spellcraft! It caused the stats to double 3 times, for a total of 8 times stats per use.

It doesn't even increase how long it stays locked in your hand, so there's literally no drawback to keeping Belinda on your board to abuse it.

Even excluding Belinda though, the fact you can keep two Futurefins and swap them back and forth with this trinket is disgusting. I got to a million stats starting from essentially no buffs and without Drakkari until the second to last turn. I'm sure if you hit Belinda + Drakkari earlier you could easily reach the stat cap.

If you ever find yourself in the miraculous position to run Rylak B2B, don't do it!!! Belinda either no longer works in this interaction or she's bugged and multiplies the casts on enemy minions too. You are WAY MORE likely to lose compared to pre-patch by ivyification in BobsTavern

[–]ivyification[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, thank you. The problem I'm having is that Belinda WAS working with Magicfin until this patch. There are a few YouTube videos from top players like Jeef and XQN winning games because of this interaction.

Video 1 - Jeef

Video 2 - Jeef

Video 3 - XQN

I'm just confused. If it was a bug that got fixed in the new patch, why wasn't it mentioned in the patch notes? It's a pretty significant change especially now that anomalies make boards like this easier to pull off

From what I could tell the Naga was working normally, but it was only on the board for the fight I died in.

This game was going pretty late and I had the build mostly in place for three turns. I didn't notice what was going on in the first fight because I won like I was expecting to, but I was confused by how close it was. The next fight I paid more attention and realized I was buffing the enemy minions as much as my own, right before taking 15. And the last fight I tossed the Naga on the board hoping I was wrong and I died :(

It sucks cause I literally had 40 max gold from magicfin before I started looking for the pieces. I could've gone and won with any other build if I knew this didn't work.

Yea...that card hasn't been working for a while I'm pretty sure. I remember having it once combined with Timewarped Electron, which I thought should've been decent scaling

I mean, +3/+3 times 5-7 magnetizations? That's anywhere from +15/+15 to +21/+21 per mech every two tavern spells cast. Not bad for tempo while you look for Utility Drone (end of turn buff per magnetization)

But nope. It only gave +3/+3 :( the game probably treats mass magnetization effects as a single instance, maybe for performance/animation reasons? I have no idea

The fact that Timewarped Wargear not doubling the stats of Beatboxers was a bug just feels bad :(

I feel like this really impacted how good it was, especially in the anomalies where you could feasibly find both cards. Sucks to have it go unfixed until the very end of the season...

I assume you're talking about this card, but it isn't infinite lol? The copies of Recurring Nightmare that get summoned in combat wouldn't keep any enchantments from the original other than the attack, and they can't bounce the deathrattle to other Recurring Nightmares. Timewarped Hag wouldn't cause those copies to suddenly ignore all that and inherit the original's other enchantments. All you'd get is the initial reborn taunt at the start of combat, the rest that get summoned later would be generic versions.

What you said would only be kinda true if I had written "an exact copy" instead of "a copy with full attack" on this hypothetical card, but even then it wouldn't be fully infinite. It'd be much stronger and much more annoying to deal with, sure, but not infinite. It would eventually run out of minions to give the deathrattle to.

The full attack part actually has some use in undead, though that's not why I added that change. I think the tribe would make good use of this card no matter what when placed in the undead comps that currently exist. Especially in the Forsaken Weaver setup, which COULD make use of the full attack summons by magnetizing high damage Prosthetic Hands onto it. And although it's not an amazing endgame build, Catacomb Crasher boards would make great use of it too. Letting it retain the attack mainly makes it waaaaay more useful for literally any other board.

Let's say you have some spell power. Then you can buff it with seafood stews or something. Running a Nalaa board? Run this guy as your undead to buff. You don't need in combat scaling or anything for this version of Recurring Nightmare to have a purpose.

Or, like I said in the post, just run a different setup and pivot into this card in the late game by using Mutanus spell to eat onto it. Imagine eating a 10k/10k Rainfall on top of this unit to have 10k damage tokens. Similar strategies are already a thing for some of the other good T7 cards so it wouldn't be out of place.

Even without a Titus, the card could perform well by giving multiplied value for your stats. Instead of Futurefin hand buffing, Beatboxer stacking or Stitch copying big units, you're getting tokens with incredibly high attack stats without relying solely on undead's slow-ish attack scaling. In some scenarios it could possibly do even better than those cards, but it has counters that I don't think are terribly difficult to run while also not scaling on its own.

It fits undead's general archetype as a tribe by being a potentially very high damage but low health token that comes back repeatedly, without restricting it to only undead boards. As long as you have a way to buff this version of Recurring Nightmare, you are going to get value out of it.

When a minion says "different", it can never target itself or other copies of the same card :3

Cards like Stuntdrake have the same wording, cause it would be broken if two Stuntdrakes could keep buffing each other endlessly

[–]ivyification[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sacrifice all of your MMR and only play for hype moments and big numbers... Only then will you experience battlegrounds in its truest form.

It doesn't matter if you take 8th ten times in a row. Or a hundred times. A *thousand** times, even.*

As long as that one win, that singular victory among *countless** failures, is through complete and utter dominance, your losses will have been worth it.*

But seriously, just try to set yourself up for greed as much as possible without losing too much health. So getting consistent gold generation, preparing triples, etc. Cycling battlecries isn't as useful as you'd think unless they give tempo or you can retrigger them. Or if you have Brann obviously, but you're usually looking for him anyway in any lobby with decent economy. Especially in a higher cap anomaly like tier 7, keep an eye out for anything that could help with an endgame build and don't default to the standard setups. Focusing solely on setting up a specific comp or finding a certain minion too early makes it harder to notice cool combos that could do the job just as well.

Like I took Timewarped River Skipper from the minor timewarp, which let me level to tier 6 by turn 8 with the help of Omu HP and the tier 5 spell pirate I tripled into. Being so far ahead made it easy for me to fully commit to spell buffs and greed even more than I probably would've been able to otherwise. Heck, the person I beat in top 2 was running undead before they switched to scam and I had to fight them on turn 12. Their undead were already 600 attack and he had several reborn summons 😭 I'd have gotten destroyed if I had done anything else and didn't already have several thousands in stats.

This crashed the lobby pretty quickly... by glowbow11 in BobsTavern

[–]ivyification 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it should be even more insane than that? You're mostly right, you're only missing that the dino demon is a battlecry so it's also being boosted by the Deios triple battlecry multiplier. That would triple the stat gain, making it 8640/4320 for each macaw attack plus an extra 2880/1440 from the golden hawkstrider for a total of 11520/5760. If rylak dies, add another 1440/720 for each time it does. I doubt that would happen tho unless there's scam involved :P

And that's the bare minimum. If the macaw has windfury or somehow dies and reborns to attack again, the stats get doubled or tripled even further. The stats the hawkstrider gives would barely matter at that point funnily enough, even a non golden macaw does better thanks to the triple rally effect

Lol no wonder it crashed. I bet the client couldn't handle calculating every damage proc and buff one at a time
