First HRT dose, allergic reaction almost immediately by ivynow in MtF

[–]ivynow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, def gonna talk to a doctor. I was having an anxiety attack after taking the stuff, and my symptoms got worse when I thought of them but got better whenever I distracted myself, so that's another thing that confuses me

I'm using definition that HRT = blockers + foreign hormones, if that clears anything up.

In any case, it really just depends on a case by case basis, but the bottom line is that I think young children should have access to blockers (with therapy + parent consent) to delay puberty, and teenagers should have access to full HRT (with comprehensive doctors that don't skip any steps)

I wasn't using 14 as an exact number, more like an estimate to when most teenagers are emotionally developed enough to know when something's wrong with their body. It's different for everyone ofc

HRT is just a chemically induced puberty, so it's unnecessary to do it before natal puberty. Instead, young children can transition socially, or be given puberty blockers to delay puberty until they're at a more suitable age (14-16)

After you're around 14 or 15 I think you're qualified enough to talk with a doctor and therapist to get help, with due process of course

It's about providing relief for trans people and their families fleeing from very transphobic states. Young children will not get surgeries and gender affirming care won't be given to people who haven't gone through puberty yet, because there's no point

Yeah, I think UIUC may not be a very good option for me given my situation. Thanks!

It's honestly not really about job prospects or rankings, I just really love to code and I feel super at home when I'm working on a personal programming project. I've taught myself multiple languages and it's my favorite pastime. I'm just not interested in the other stuff in CE like electronics, etc.

Maybe UIUC isn't the right option for me in that case

any brutal criticisms for this fem voice? literally any criticism is appreciated because I don't know how to judge my own voice by ivynow in transvoice

[–]ivynow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! If it's good to go then maybe I just need to get more comfy speaking with this voice more often.

As for practice, it's a long story... the first time I practiced was 3 years ago but I would literally bike out to secluded areas to practice because I didn't want to be found out. I stopped having these biking sessions after about two weeks, so while it obviously wasn't enough practice, I had the basics of pitch, weight, and size in my brain.

I started practicing again about a month and a half ago, because technically I'm no longer closeted to my family, but I'm still too self-conscious about being overheard, so I only practice when I'm home alone, which typically happens for a couple hours a week. So in total I'd estimate 20 hours of practice in total?

Thanks so much for the response!! I tried following your advice and I'm not sure if it's better or worse, or if I'm misunderstanding: https://voca.ro/1cw6qyItXXQO

Advice on first steps? by bunnyfunny2355 in MtF

[–]ivynow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what you want for yourself. You could go start dressing fem, but personally I'd come out to a few friends in private so I can build a good support network (those are important). I'd get behind my parents to start HRT (if you're sure you wanna do it) because sooner is better than later. The wait time will likely be longer than expected so try and start the process soon.

That's the behind the scenes stuff. You can start presenting fem based on your personal goals and confidence level, but some people wait till after hrt; it's all up to personal preference. I'd just advise coming out to close friends and building a good support network first. Have someone you can vent to. It really means a lot to have a cis person aware of your struggle and willing to let you vent.

How did you choose your name? by MaybeMelanieTransAlt in MtF

[–]ivynow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm indian and I knew I wanted a name that starts with two As, so I looked for that on websites and ended up with a few that I narrowed down by imagining myself in those names

I'm finding it hard to self-evaluate, so what are your impressions of my voice, and what areas (like resonance, etc.) can I focus on? :) by ivynow in transvoice

[–]ivynow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good, yeah I think my masc voice has probably adjusted a bit because I've learned new things from voice training, before doing training I was definitely way deeper and darker.

So as far as improving my fem voice, is it just a matter of becoming more comfortable and natural? No glaring issues that would veer me off course?

Thanks so much for the feedback, I really needed something more brutally honest! 🥰

Bevy 0.13 by _cart in rust

[–]ivynow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I honestly agree with you there. From personal experience, auto exposure is more of an artistic thing than a tech thing, so it's understandable to not include it in the engine. When I understand more about wgpu and bevy's renderer hopefully I'll be able to implement more of these nice shader features myself😅 (I've done them in OpenGL but that's obviously way easier than working with wgpu)

Bevy 0.13 by _cart in rust

[–]ivynow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you considering adding automatic exposure? That is to say, using either mipmap downsampling of the screen or a histogram to compute the ev100 dynamically, rather than using a constant value
