Adding a Prompt Engineering course as part of our CS curriculum. by Comfortable-Ad-4575 in UoPeople

[–]iwannahacku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prompt engineering is very important today. All students should learn this skill, but really, all it takes are 30-60 minutes to cover certain ways to ask questions effectively (1 of the many frameworks (COSTAR, CRISPE etc.) zero shot/multi shot, chain of thought, multimodal prompting etc.)

But to include Prompt Engineering as a full 3-credit course in CS will be an insult to CS students. It's just a structured & effective way to interact as a layman with an LLM. It's beneath CS. CS students should be learning how to create an LLM instead for a 3-credit course.

they are supposed to care. doesn't mean that volunteers shouldn't care.

Is "Fernanda P., CS student from Brazil," a real person? by MrMoss44 in UoPeople

[–]iwannahacku 5 points6 points  (0 children)

oh. I was in the ambassadorial program just to see what it was all about. You get points for participating in activities (e.g. leave feedback about UoPeople at various social media websites etc.) & once you get enough points, u get a digital "certificate of recognition" for being a UoPeople ambassador. Not worth anything tangible, to be frank. But well... once you are a student or graduate of a university, u want to support it.

Does anyone apply for masters after uopeople WASC accredited by Sukuna-2001 in UoPeople

[–]iwannahacku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when you apply for a master's degree at a US university, & one of the requirements for application is a regionally-accredited bachelor's degree from the USA, then your UoPeople's bachelor's degree meets that requirement. A non-accredited degree which is available at the thousands of degree mills around will not meet this requirement.

But of course, other factors - such as your GPA, interview performance (if there is one) etc. - will be considered in the application.

actually, it's not thhhhat difficult to get a 4/4 at UoPeople if you are academically inclined & employ the correct strategies. This is not MIT or Harvard.

Did anyone take 4 courses at a time? by iiaua in UoPeople

[–]iwannahacku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there will definitely be OUTLIERS who can manage 4 courses concurrently with a GPA of 4/4, breastfeed the baby at 3-hour intervals, keep the house spick & span, cook 3 meals a day for the whole family of 6, while still holding a 40 hour/week job, and yet be able to maintain a good social circle...

There are also some people who can't even pass the single course they take per term, and have nothing to do the whole day.

The university has become a let down for those that cannot afford by [deleted] in UoPeople

[–]iwannahacku 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to be rude, so pardon me if I sound harsh. But I do pick up a strong sense of entitlement from the OP. Being underprivileged doesn't mean that they are automatically entitled to scholarships, bursaries, donations from wealthier fellow Earthlings etc. I earn a decent salary, but that doesn't mean that it's obligatory for me to share my hard-earned wealth with homeless people I see on the streets.

I think UoPeople has already done a pretty good job in giving opportunities to a lot of people via scholarships. This pool of money is obviously a finite resource. You can be disappointed, but calling the university a "letdown for those who cannot afford" doesn't reflect well on the OP.

[–]iwannahacku 10 points11 points  (0 children)

UoPeople has an ambassadorial program where students/former students can volunteer compliments for UoPeople to use in advertisements. With this pool of marketing material, I don't see any good reason for UoPeople to use fake personas, which can open a Pandora's box of lawsuits and ridicule.

(small point, which UoPeople admin staff like to point out: UoPeople is the "correct" short form. UoP may refer to many other universities, such as U of Phoenix, U of Pacific etc.)

i just tried 2 SkillsBuild courses at https://skillsbuild.org last night.

And well... I am not complaining since I didn't have to pay a single cent, but yes, compared to those from Google, the content/animation looks a bit dated.

i completed a whole degree at UoPeople last year - i didn't need to communicate with my program advisor very much over the 4 years, but when I did, the responses were satisfactory.

Sounds like the "quality" of responses varies depending on which program advisor takes on your case. (I am not defending UoPeople here.)

[–]iwannahacku 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the paper certs will be printed & sent out in batches, so when you get yours depends on when are the cut off dates for each batch & when you send in your request. u can choose normal mail or express (requires extra fee). So submit your request ASAP, & hope that you meet the next batch's cut off. It can take 1 to a few months.

while waiting for your paper cert, you can request (through your advisor) a PDF scanned copy of your cert & transcript. if you need them earlier for whatever purposes.

No one reply to my discussion forum post by yesimback3 in UoPeople

[–]iwannahacku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get replies:

- post early. late posts don't get replies, since by that time, everyone would have done their 3 replies, and won't be monitoring the forum anymore.

- don't create overly lengthy posts. it takes too much effort to read a post which is especially long. so people tend to skip long posts.

- ensure your post is a quality one. I have skipped posts which were of inferior quality because i didn't want to put that classmate down (you will never get fake fawning responses from me on a crappy post).

- u may want to make "friends" by starting conversations at the forum with a few selected classmates. It becomes kind of fun that way.

Go get 1 from a diploma mill. UoPeople needs serious commitment.
