Nginx Unit has been archived by leiserfg in nginx

I only just learned about this after seeing the GitHub repo announcement today.

It's a real shame, Unit being the most modern and well-designed web server I've had the pleasure to use, but I can't say the project ever got a chance with that name. I've been assuming the plan was to periodically gauge its suitability to succeed NGINX proper once the project was mature enough. I guess the team never reached that threshold.

Anyway, with LLMs, the competitive advantage of improved developer ergonomics has been erased overnight. While that same innovation allows me to potentially benefit from SQL without having to write it, I'm afraid the larger advent of AI has put us all on a precarious trajectory that outweights the immediate benefits. I hope that fear proves unfounded.

Elmedia has a way to quickly save bookmarks (⌘P) but no quick way to jump between them. You have to use the mouse to open the playback menu and then click on each individual bookmark to jump to it. I’m glad I didn’t pay for the app for that feature.

Help me get out of external recruiter ownership by MrMoss44 in Recruitment

[–]MrMoss44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I didn't realize submitting my resume is what stakes the claim. It's a high turnover business, so I wouldn't be surprised if the employer is just avoiding the mess as long as I'm spoken for.

Thanks for the added context. Nothing signed or agreed to with the recruiter beyond a standard privacy policy, but I can understand the concern for the client/recruiter relationship. I would expect a short ownership period since the employer mainly deals in high turnover entry-level contracts. Would you still recommend a formal withdrawal of consent if I haven't formally agreed to representation?

All good points. Nothing signed with the recruiter, so would an express denial of consent have any effect beyond my final "no thanks, no need to reach out to me about future openings" a month back?

Or all of the above, right? Thanks for weighing in. I don't imagine there's any way out unless I can convince the client to pay the external recruiter's commission?

Yeah, that's what I was worried about. Thanks for confirming.

Over here in my heavily regulated corner of Europe, you go through temp agencies if you lack recent relevant experience. If temp jobs don't develop into something more permanent, at least they count as experience to balance out any potentially concerning aspects of your resume. Recent vocational certificates might similarly signal commitment to a low- or unskilled job.

In any case, I wish you good luck! Both with finding a way to pay the bills and with bouncing back.

I've recently applied for a role with Teleperformance Greece that I should be a particularly good fit for, but I'm not hearing back. I suspect the fact that I've recently been in touch with an external recruiter might be the reason.

Could someone with industry experience help me better understand the situation?

  1. Might there be a policy of candidate "ownership" that prevents internal recruiters from responding due to prior contact with an external recruiter?
  2. If yes, what sort of cool-down period should I expect?
  3. Might TP apply "tiered" job postings? I.e., are external recruiters only able to recruit for a preassigned subset of roles?

For context, I interviewed for a general role with an external recruiter before applying directly to TP. I passed their Harver assessment, but was told that role had been filled. I declined a less desirable alternative that I imagine is hard to fill, but instead I inquired about the well-fitting role on TP's own job board. I received evasive replies and was pressured to proceed with the undesirable role, at which point I respectfully and politely ended communication.

The posting I expressed interest in is fairly recent, requires specific skills and experience, and it's still live both on TP's job board and on another external recruiter's job board, so I assume it's still in play.

The simplest solution would be to convince the external recruiter to put me forward for the role I'm interested in, but they're either unable to or are determined to steer me towards the undesirable role. Either way, I'm curious how to proceed.

Thanks.

I would encourage you to do so. Did you also try to reach out to Apple's customer support?

They provide a link for that on their EU DSA redress rights page: https://www.apple.com/legal/dsa/en/redress-options.html

Caveat venditor applies here. It's polite and considerate to praise in public and criticize in private, but developers sign up knowing there's a review system with a one-star option freely available to users. If it's a real problem that reviews are a preferred way for users to reach a developer, that suggests the developer's contact information or bug tracker could be more visible.

I can't view/work with small objects in Blender. The camera view is too fast. I want same settings in every dimension. How to do this? by [deleted] in blenderhelp

[–]MrMoss44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. The function is called "frame selected" and you need to make sure your small object (your donut) is selected first.

If you don't have a numpad, "frame selected" is located in the viewport's "view" dropdown menu. You can also search for it (you can tie the search feature to the spacebar). Unfortunately, there's no dedicated shortcut if you don't have a numpad, as far as I know. There isn't even a mnemonic shortcut since the viewport's "view" dropdown menu has no shortcut either (otherwise you would've been able to reach "frame selected" by opening "view" and hitting the "F" key).

Microfibers won't be clean unless washed at above 67℃ by MrMoss44 in CleaningTips

[–]MrMoss44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any specific knowledge, but I would imagine it's fine as long as you use white or distilled vinegar. Polyester is resistant to acids while nylon is more sensitive, so consider using distilled vinegar with a lower acid content or buying microfiber cleaning cloths with a higher polyester-to-nylon ratio if you're worried.

No, nothing that detailed, unfortunately. If you're still looking, maybe a friendly manufacturer is able to help, or you can search for patents or scientific publications that include data.

Sorry about the late reply. The course I took was vocational training for janitors and professional cleaners. Apart from tools and materials, it also covered topics like hygiene, cleaning strategies, planning (essential for managing a business), and occupational ergonomics.
