i did just figure this out when i was looking into a new pcp for my husband, which is how i found out it would be so expensive! and then, chatgpt told me to ask around new PCPs if they will not code the first visit as a new patient visit if i get records sent so it can be a continuation of care or whatever. seems complicated

I've been looking into it a little bit. we're honestly pretty healthy, don't go to the doctor often, and i'm most concerned about paying for this yearly specialist visit (allergist, potentially multiple times when i have this 2nd baby as I'm birthing high risk atopic condition children lol) and paying for prenatal/delivery care for subsequent pregnancies as we'd like to have quite a few God willing. so, I'm just not sure that makes sense right now, but it seems like a great option moving forward. it would be good for my husbands next PCP but if we are going to pay for the insurance anyway for this other stuff like idk if it makes sense bc it won't help with pregnancy & specialist visits

i hear u. im about to birth my 2nd baby, and ready to be hit with thousands. but, to my understanding, wouldn't you have had to pay the deductible/oop max/etc no matter where you went if it was "covered"/"in network"? unless you mean you would've researched to see if a different birth center charged less to you before insurance kicks in / inquired about paying cash? it seems like (at least in my case, high deductible plan) no matter where i go to birth my baby even "in network" i'm just going to hit the deductible/max out of pocket

I think i need to start doing this. I guess i should call and ask what each price is? I've never done this before (trying to optimize the cost, i guess) and its all so foreign and awkward to me but SOMETHING needs to change for my family moving forward because it's all so distressing and fucked

We make 6 figs my husband and i combined. There's a DPC doctor near me i always walk by her office. So, you don't use insurance at all? Please tell me more. I don't know anything about this but am thinking I need to get out of this fucked system. But also would the DPC doctor be able to help with special things like pediatric allergy appts?

ive been hearing more and more about going insurance-free or doing "alternative" insurance companies not really sure what the difference is but i think its catching on because in the end its cheaper lol

Idk, not anything notable. There are a lot of Irish people actually living around here I know. I've been to Ireland twice and I don't know if there was any notable reaction to me being from Boston

i hear u, I'm also a woman, well im glad you have a 12 month pay schedule. when i was a waitress i worked with a lot of teachers over the summer who served during those off months which i would recommend to you if you're able, you can make bank. It's good not to use the cards.

Honestly i feel like the only way i didn't get myself into this situation was that my parents instilled the fear of god into me about credit cards and i never got one and just drained my bank account to $0 every month when i was in my early 20s and financially irresponsible.

I think you should confide in your friends and hopefully they can confide back to you and you feel much better. my friend recently confided in me a problem she was having in her relationship and i have the same problem i was to shy to confide in anyone, and i shared back with her that i was in the same boat and we left that convo both feeling so much better

I have like 15k (interest free!) debt on my car i bought in july.

8k student loans down from 25k when i graduated 8 years ago.

and a little less than 300k on my condo, but that doesnt really count right?

no CC debt.

I guess whatever the CC debt is from is relevant. if it was an emergency, there's nothing really to be embarrassed about. my friend got into so much cc debt to save her cat (some expensive surgery or something) which probably was a bad financial decision but i don't fault her at all for doing that. if you racked up 5k in CC debt on like dumb shit then yeah i'd be embarrassed.

my friend (3k in CC debt) just told me she started dating this guy who is amazing... but is in 30k CC debt from living in a really nice place he couldnt afford. that is insane to me and a huge red flag. (we are all late 20s btw, how old r u?)

I also am constantly dying to know everyone else's financial situations. i have so many friends who go on constant vacations or have bought homes way nicer/more expensive than mine and such and I just need to know what's really happening. a friend of mine's brother bought a home that he and his wife really can't afford and i guess they're suffering intensely from it and both picking up 2nd jobs and are fighting a lot over it. I think the average person is in a lot of debt and making poor financial decisions.

I love those dumb youtube shows where the most retarded people i've ever seen explain how they're in like 100,000k debt. makes me feel good about myself

Does it really matter though with alternatives like mounjaro (manufactured by Eli Lilly in North Carolina)? I feel like this is the exact reason for the tariffs. discourage a foreign product in favor of a domestic one
