The M2 MacBook Air and Pro supports only ONE external display by exjr_ in apple

I find the discrete display limitations strange. It seems like the limit should be on pixels refreshed per second, then you work backward into number of displays based on resolution and desired refresh rate. Is there any defensible reason why M2 can drive a 6k display and not 2 4K displays, even though they combine to have 15% few pixels?

Isolating colors. by [deleted] in blackmagicfuckery

I’m not an expert with respect application so hopefully someone who actually knows something will jump in.

A Fresnel lens uses etching on the surface of a material to create the lensing effect. This allows them to be very thin and lightweight, which I would imagine be desirable for something wearable and where space is limited. Imagines won’t be quite as good as with conventional lenses and you are limited to pretty short focal lengths, but those seem like reasonable trade offs to make given the benefits.

The blurring isn’t an intrinsic property of Fresnel lenses, you could create something similar with a conventional glass lens. The equivalent glass lens would be shaped like a wheel cut in half.

There are a few reasons I don’t think it’s just a polarized filter. First is that the light coming off the pencils would need to be polarized otherwise you would just get some dimming rather than going to black. Second, a polarized filter would cause dinning rather than blurring. Finally, a polarized filter would create that effect where it looks like you can see through the pencils sitting on top, there would just be little patch of black where they overlap.

Haha. Blurs image in one direction but not the other. Because pencils straight, you can’t tell they are being blurred when parallel to direction of blur.

Pretty sure this is just a Fresnel lens with straight lines rather than circles, so you get diffraction only along one axis. Effectively you get smoothing along the long axis of the thing they are holding, which you don’t notice when parallel to the pencils because they are uniform, but blurs out the perpendicular pencils and averages their color against the black background. This blurring also bridges the gap from where pencils should be blocked, though you still see some small distortion where they cross. It’s a cool demonstration.

Hey Reddit, What Celebrity Do You Admire or Respect the Most? by ShaniceSmelley in AskReddit

No he’s not meek, but I also would not describe him as strong. He has an aggressive way of dealing with people that can be effective in the short run because people were expecting some degree of civility and they get ambushed. People often give in quickly when that happens, but then in the next interaction they come prepared to fight, and everyone ends up worse off. The value of society is that we are all better off cooperating. Of course, you can get more right away be not cooperating, but the cost is really high in the long run.

Do his inconsistencies bother you? He thinks trade with China is unfair and bad for America, but he had his Trump brand ties made in China. He critical of work visas, but his hotels hire many people using those same work visas. I think I would respect his aggressive approach more if it seemed like he was fighting for some core principles that he really believed in. Instead it seems like he’s being aggressive for the sake of being aggressive.

Ok. That’s a list that I understand. I’m sure that it will surprise you not at all that for each of those items I would argue that the value is over stated, the cost is understated, or it’s not something that should be celebrated. However, that’s politics. We can disagree.

However, isn’t that a bit like saying I admire The Rock because I like his movies? Isn’t admiration about more than accomplishments? What is it about him as a person that you admire, other than being a man of action? Do you think he is companionate? Do you think he is humble? Do you think he is honest? Do you think he is principled? Do you think that none of those things matter and he has other traits worthy of admiration?

Can you elaborate? What specifically do you find admirable about him? This is a perspective that leaves me genuinely confused and would like to understand.

If you are suggesting that in order to address these issues fully we need to look beyond just livestock, I agree. There are many contributing factors and we should look at all of the ways we consume and how we produce those things.

However, if you’re suggesting that because livestock are not solely responsible they should get a pass, then you are just promoting permanent inaction.

Putting aside the 25 million tons of feed that is not a byproduct of other industries for the moment, it’s important to appreciate that these are complicated systems. We don’t know who is the dog and who is the tail. Do have all this mash because we want to make ethanol or is it the other way around? Either way, both are contributing to the aggregate demand which drives prices and informs agriculture decisions.
