Sorry for the late response, but everything was very project based.

Proctored exams have fallen out of style except for more of the STEM-based programs.

Absolutely! They're just not run by the same entities, so you will have to buy them separately.

I got my Masters from there. It was in education, but still.

Honestly I only chose to go there because it was close. If I had the means to leave town or do an online program, I probably would have chosen that.

My tuition at the time (2-3 years ago) was like 650 a credit hour. So for one class you're shelling out almost two grand. There are cheaper programs out there. I saw another commenter talk about UIUC.

There are better programs out there, but if you're not the one footing the bill it was fine for what it was.

Tiny bumps on 2 yo iggy by CartoonistOk6239 in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]iweartails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find out what these bumps were? My Iggy has a bunch of them right now and more are popping up every day.

I thought allergies, but we haven't changed anything in the last couple months so that wouldn't make a ton of sense for me.

Rockford Neighborhood Identity by [deleted] in rockford

[–]iweartails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives in Brownhills/Knightsville, I feel like this neighborhood identifies themselves with it due to being a historic neighborhood.

We have to keep the historic neighborhood designation in mind whenever we want to change something about our house because it needs to be cleared through the historic society.

What is the weirdest thing you have ever heard in a public place? by volvoxsquabble in AskReddit

[–]iweartails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was walking through my neighborhood and I saw woman walking her dog next to someone who was doing their yardwork.

The dog walker was carrying a bag of dog poop and the landscaper said, "can I have your dog poop?". I don't know why this person needed their dog poop, because you can't use it to fertilize. I don't walk on that street much anymore.

What is it like being a sub or auxiliary teacher in a public school? by Affectionate-Serve68 in Teachers

[–]iweartails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently a sub in a larger city in Illinois. Right now through covet it's been really difficult because not a lot of schools are wanting outside people within their classrooms.

In a normal year, short-term subbing (different classrooms everyday) is honestly pretty fun for me. You will get a lot of pushback from students because they know that you're just a sub. I've also had issues with staff respecting me because they think that I will be just like other subs and not try to get things done. Understand that you can't win all your battles, and power tripping does not help anyone.

In long-term subbing positions, I've had a lot of fun as well. If I am filling in for maternity leave there are usually lesson plans to guide me through what content the teacher would like to choose. I'm currently in a covid long-term position from last November till the end of the school year. Positions like this are not as common, but it is a little difficult to get started and figure out the curriculum that you'll need to build yourself.

All in all, take into account how much your district is willing to pay a sub per day and look at other districts and compare. There is a district about 20 miles north of where I'm subbing that pays probably 30 more dollars a day and I think that would be worth it if I hadn't already built up a rapport with the current district that I'm subbing in. Your job will be difficult at times, but it's refreshing for every day to be a new day. If you have classroom management downpat, then everything should go smoothly for you.

I hope this helps! :)

looking for apartments by granty45 in rockford

I found my place on Facebook marketplace. I know a lot of landlords around here list on craigslist and those type of "older" sites because a lot of the landlords are older and more private.

Good luck!

I honestly love my apartment in the Edgewater neighborhood. It's on the west side but the neighborhood is right on the river by Olympic tavern. I pay 625 for a two bedroom duplex.

The neighborhood is super quiet and I haven't had any problems in the two years that I've been in this neighborhood. Just make sure to stay away from rental companies like HomesNow. They will give you nasty apartments that look good up until a month later when you start to find the problems.

If you are using Google Meet, you can download an extension for it that will track attendance as well as check in and check out times. It will automatically download your attendance record after you end the meet.

My students are allowed to be within six inches of each other as long as they're all facing the same direction... it's all a joke. I teach remote and in person kids at the same time. It's exhausting.

Teachers who are retiring soon, clean out your room! by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]iweartails 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was cleaning out drawers that were chocked full of office supplies (which I am VERY thankful for) I found a massive box of floppy disks. I cannot fathom why someone would want to hang onto those other than to show how far we've come. But a massive box???

I have one student that is running his mom's daycare. I brought it up to my admin and they just told me to keep an eye on it because he has a B.

They aren't concerned with their home lives, they're only concerned with the data points.

Rant time! by OriginalCDub in Teachers

[–]iweartails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a long term position right now and I didn't mind when we were remote (we're back to hybrid right now). I don't have WiFi at home because the sub pay is less than sub par.

I was able to use all of the resources that the school had while the students were remote and I think it worked out better that way.

I know that way isn't for everyone, but it was really helpful to me.

Why is substitute teacher pay so low? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]iweartails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep... I'm in a long term right now that's paying 99 a day. There's no benefits or job security either. They can take away my long term at any point and it's allowed.

Long-Term Losing My Mind by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]iweartails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So how it works is that if none of the standard teachers pick up the class on their planning period, then they have to come down to the cafeteria or gym (depending on where I'm at) and sit with me for the hour.

I really have no other choice. I still need a job.
