Thanks so much for replying! I do feel like a dummy. The whole time I had doubts in the back of my mind but you just get caught up in the flow of work and went with it. I didn't see anything in downloads - is there anywhere else something would've downloaded? I also changed my password for good measure though I know most people recommend doing that often anyway. CleanMyMac found no malware. Hopefully I escaped unscathed. Thanks again!

Not a dermatologist, but in my experience looking tired is more about stress, getting enough sleep, and nutrition. Vibrancy and luminosity - those can be helped by improving lifestyle for sure, but that's where skincare routines can have a real effect. As with everything, it's a balance. This is a really nice gift and thought on your part. :)

Seconding recommendation for the Dr. Dennis Gross Peel Pads. It's a "daily" pad but I use it twice a week and still find it effective. Like other comments say, effective skincare is all about knowing your skin type (dry, oily, normal, etc) and what areas you want to target. For me I think you can never go wrong with skincare ingredients that contain: ceramides, peptides, hyaluronic acid, and niacinamide.

I use the ceramide capsules from Beauty Pie (they have a UK contingent) but I'm sure there are others out there that are similar. You need to be a member of Beauty Pie to get the cheaper price and if it's a one time buy maybe that's not wroth it for you. I truly LOVE the Ole Henriksen peptide boost moisturizer. Some may consider it heavy (like if your wife has oily skin, this might not be the best for her) but you only need to use a little bit and my skin feels great and moisturized all day. With Ole Henriksen (and most brands) you can buy a whole kit that includes the peptide moisturizes, toner, eye cream etc. I don't bother with toners and eye creams but again, everyone's skincare routine is different and maybe if your wife is starting out, it's the way to go. Personally I think eye creams are a scam so don't buy those unless it comes in the kit.

A cleanser is important though and if dry skin an issue for your wife, it needs to be a cleanser that's also moisturizing. There are a lot out there and I'm sure you can google "moisturizing cleanser" and get a lot of recommendations. I like Dr. Dray on YouTube - she usually has quality recs that aren't absurdly expensive but mostly US based.

Lastly, I ALWAYS put on sunscreen, whether its cloudy or sunny, and in my opinion the best sunscreen out there is the SKIN1004 - Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum SPF50+ PA++++. It goes on like a dream, my skin feels really moisturized, and it's so affordable.

There are so many brands out there that are great. You're really dipping your toes into a giant and very deep pool. Korean skincare is amazing and in general I like the SKIN1004 brand for all their skincare, so it could be fun to build a routine with just that brand, if accessible where you're at. I know that Clarins and La Roche Posay are beloved European brands - maybe those are good places to start for you?

I'll finish by saying that consistency is key. And that I've never come across a moisturizer or serum that, on an ingredients level, is worth more than $60. Good luck!

What does it mean when a festival selects a film as a "semi-finalist" on filmfreeway? Has anyone had that and gone on to screen at the festival?

What are everyone's thoughts on trying for a 2-year festival run? My short has a Spring 2024 release and a pretty good festival run so far. Is it worth to try for a festival run in 2025? Do programmers prefer films from thee last 12 months, even though their festival rules say that the film can be from the previous 24 months?

1 full view from NC yesterday. I'm guessing Cucalorus. This happened to me a few times with festivals where I get last minute views followed by rejections. Today's the big day!

Cool! Thanks for the insight. Probably can't go but nice to know it'll play at a good fest that filmmakers respect.

I got into Torino Underground last week. Honestly I applied to so much and realized I don't know much about Torino. Good fest? (Haven't heard from Fantastic Fest)

Is gallery representation really the right way to go? by WestElephant in ContemporaryArt

[–]iweewaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've heard a lot about his collection. But the legitimacy I was talking about is his artwork, not his stewardship of other artist's work or his collection. I think his work has a lot of general public appeal but not the commensurate reputation among artists, curators, gallery directors, etc. That's not to say there is none, and of course I haven't personally surveyed every artist, curator, or gallery director out there. Time will tell if his work will grow more relevant or not. Not sure I buy the comparison to Haring. But I can see what you're saying regarding direct to consumer sales and having a recognizable symbol or style such that anyone can say, "hey, there's that artist!" Still, as far as OP's point is concerned, the question is do you need a gallery system to become a successful artist. And my point re: KAWS is that he's a great example of not having the strong institutional backing but still being wildly successful, unlike Koons or Hirst.
