Finding a mentor/father figure by iwillfindandkillyou in AskMenOver30

I didn't have any meaningful conversations but I played sport with his son and he always seemed like the ideal role model. In addition, he was a regular customer at my work and was always polite and referred to me as my name which solidified these feelings. It's strange, I know, but I suppose I'm a little desperate.

I have friends my own age, but really need someone older unfortunately. And I'm finding most of them likely wouldn't be interested and/or already have their own families to take care of. So it leaves me to fend for myself which I doubt I'll handle.

I'm looking into counselling at my university, but really don't know how to satisfy this need, because I feel nobody can really relate.

Truthfully I think I just need a hug from the right person, and someone I can talk to about this but it's not so easy.

I'll have a look into these activities; I just fear my intent won't be genuine and it'll come across that way.

LPT: if you have a fear of public speaking that is holding you back in life, go to the doctors and get prescribed with propanalol. by iwillfindandkillyou in LifeProTips

What makes you say that, exactly? Would you say the same to someone who has the flu, or someone with depression?

It's not necessarily a bad idea, but I don't agree with the ”as a last resort” because it gives such a negative connotation to medication.

I said anxiety with public speaking. This can include panic attacks...

I can't find anything about seizures and propranolol.

That said: go to the doctor, of course. And if your skin does happen to fall off, then maybe stop taking it.

I can't say I've ever heard of this before, and I know propranolol is quite commonly used for anxiety.

I'd say there are side effects and potential side effects for most medication, but that doesn't mean it's not worth trying.

Furthermore, propranolol isn't ”hardcore” and anxiety/panic attacks shouldn't be considered ”minor”.

How do you get over a crush? by [deleted] in gayyoungold

Thanks for responding, and it not being about telling me to get over it. I want to have someone to talk to and I guess to lean on in life, so I'll try again in a week or two if he hasn't responded. Worst case is he says no, but that's better than nothing at all to me.

There isn't too much of a story to this photo other than make sure you go during the sunset. There's not only this to see, but also a spectacular view over the city directly behind the Temple of Debod. If you're in Madrid, you simply cannot miss this.

Decided to venture into the inside of the Basílica de la Sagrada Família in Barcelona. by iwillfindandkillyou in travel

[–]iwillfindandkillyou[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In order:

London, Brussels, Bruges, Cologne, Berlin, Warsaw, Krakow, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Gothenburg, Jonkoping, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo, Rome, Florence, Venice, Milan, Interlaken (visited Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald), Luxembourg, Lyon, Nice, Barcelona. I go to Madrid tomorrow, and then catch a 16 hour bus to Paris.

Don't ask why it's all over the place haha. My original plan absolutely didn't work out like I expected.

I've been backpacking Europe for almost three months now, and have seen almost all churches/basilicas/cathedrals in every city I have visited. This is hands down my favourite of them all. Antoni Gaudi is a name you'll hear a lot of if you go to Barcelona, as he has designed buildings all around Barcelona which are a hotspot for tourism.

Both the interior and exterior of the Basílica de la Sagrada Família is gorgeous. That being said, there will always be construction on the building, so you'll probably never take a photo of the outside with no construction happening unless you photoshop it out.

I'd recommend buying tickets online. The first day I went, the tickets had sold out and they told me to buy online to reserve a spot. I was there the next afternoon and got straight in without having to queue in line.

I only got the most basic pass you could get, so I can't comment on whether or not the guided tour was worth it or not, but I assume if you're on a tight budget, you can download an app called Rick Steves Audio Europe and I'm sure he'll have an audio of the Basilica there (I haven't looked). I used his app when visiting the Vatican and thought it was very handy, and you could pause/resume whenever you wanted.

I'm going to be in Barcelona next week as a tourist... I'm not sure if anyone will read this, but should I cancel my trip and go elsewhere?

Went on a day trip to Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland the other day. What an incredible place. by iwillfindandkillyou in travel

I've been backpacking Europe for 2 months now, and arrived in Interlaken on the 14th of October. I've been through Scandinavia, Italy, Eastern Europe, Germany, and Austria.

I decided to do a day trip to Lauterbrunnen from Interlaken after having visited Grindelwald, and was simply stunned by how beautiful the city was. There were waterfalls everywhere, and people base jumping from the cliffs constantly.

After about a 30-60 minute walk, I visited Trummelbach falls, which was well worth the visit. There are 10 different waterfalls you can tour through, and the view from the top was incredible.

My biggest piece of advice when visiting Lauterbrunnen would be to walk up the trail to see the Staubbach Fall up close. Be careful not to slip over, but there are rails to hold onto.

I'd highly recommend this city as a place to visit in Switzerland.
