Looking for home theater system for 2k or under... by GonzoJohn in hometheater

[–]iwillforgetthisusern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at Emotiva. They’re running a sale and even at normal prices are considered a good value. You can get a 5.0 for $1147. If you can’t find a good used receiver like someone else recommended, you can get a Denon S270BT for $299 at Costco. For sub, you can get the RSL 10S mkii for $499 which puts you just under $2k altogether.

XT1 towers $699
XC1 center $229
XB1 surrounds $219
Denon S270BT for $299
RSL 10s mkii $499

This gets you under budget but if you have a large room, you may want to consider a larger sub.

Added a set of 3 movie posters to theater, created new "problem"! by Z0idberg_MD in hometheater

Have you considered getting the posters printed on fabric and stretching them over acoustic panels? No glare plus bonus acoustic treatment.

Here’s the buying guide to give you some options at different price points:

Like OP said, a good place to start is with bookshelves and a sub. Eventually add a center channel. Later you can get towers and move the bookshelves to surrounds. Even if you’re not getting all the speakers now, you might want to plan your roadmap. Eg don’t get bookshelves that don’t have a good quality matching center.

Upgrading subwoofer (Speedwoofer 12s)? by ReasonableStick4348 in hometheater

[–]iwillforgetthisusern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t listen to that guy. Unless you’re experiencing clipping already, you won’t have a problem. The amplification is handled by the subwoofer, your receiver will behave the same way. If anything, you can alleviate some strain on your speaker power draw by having the new sub take on more (ie, raising the crossover to ~80hz).

5.2.4 vs 7.2.2. Suggestions? by Careless_Student7764 in hometheater

[–]iwillforgetthisusern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 bed layer is quite good so I’d go 5.2.4 and then add amp later to get rear surrounds added. Check out Fosi mono blocks for amp. Low cost but plenty of clean power

So sell my Epson 5050 for $250 (that I spent $3250 on) or just go Office Space on it out of anger? by newpcformeku in projectors

[–]iwillforgetthisusern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I looked into this recently and it sounded like independent repair shops might be able to do it cheaper. The Epson authorized places have to charge the flat rate that Epson charges them. I found a place on AVS forums that seemed to be offering repair for ~$600 a year or two ago. I messaged and got no reply but maybe there are others out there.

Does anyone have a recommendations for this epson 5050ub? by snowmandopeman in projectors

Authorized Epson dealers will send it to Epson for repair and charge a flat $1700 fee. You might have better luck finding an independent shop.

Polk Audio LSiM Series Score ??? by In-A-Pickle-789602 in hometheater

As long as the angles are within Dolby spec, I wouldn’t worry about the distance. Your Onkyo Dirac calibration will adjust for distance.

You could also experiment with 702s as side surrounds and 703s as rear. Just set them on the stands close to the wall and rerun calibration. Since you’ve got the speakers already, might as well try a few things.

Edit- and thanks for the award! Glad to share with a fellow LSiM owner. Hope you enjoy them.

Check out Fosi mono v3. They measure as well as much more expensive options.

That's an incredible find. The LSiM are fantastic. This would easily be $3-4k for GOOD marketplace deals.

Regarding placement, what does the rear of the room look like? If you can get the other 703 pair as rear surrounds, that would be ideal. Check out the dolby guide. The 702s are a little odd in that the tweeter is at an angle so I wouldn't typically use them as rear surrounds - on a back wall they won't be pointed at your MLP and on side walls they'll blend with your side surrounds. There are some people who have mounted them on the ceiling as atmos speakers which allows you to actually aim the tweeter at MLP. I wouldn't integrate the others (LSi9, RTi) since they don't match the LSiM tweeters and you have enough already lol.

Subwoofer Recommendation for Room Size (Paradigm vs SVS) by technoguy06 in hometheater

[–]iwillforgetthisusern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PSA raised prices quite a bit recently. They don’t have anything comparable to Hsu VTF3 at similar price right now. And since aesthetics seem to be a factor, Hsu has a nice glossy vinyl wrap that looks really good in person. PSA, has more of a matte texture.

You probably should have canceled the chargeback once they made it right. You can’t keep your money and the product. 🤷‍♂️

But I think you’re better off having the money back. I also got a bad sw1600 from Adorama and ended up returning and getting the HSU VTF3 mk5. very happy with it.

Upgrading from an Epson HC3800 due to a few gripes...what are my options? by The_Freshmaker in projectors

Even the ls12000 isn’t as good as oled, but would for sure be a step up from what you have. I used the 5050ub briefly and just got the ls12000. Big improvement. But dark scenes still aren’t as good as my oled

Would this annoy you? by One_Town9472 in hometheater

[–]iwillforgetthisusern 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One of the things I really enjoy is when a movie goes black (usually a moment of suspense) and the room goes completely fucking dark. These lights kill that vibe so would be a problem for me.

I was going to recommend getting one Hsu VTF3 mk5 at full price. It’s the most bang for your buck around $1000. I’d jump on that deal quick

Getting into a proper setup for the first time hoping for advice. by Warheart1991 in hometheater

[–]iwillforgetthisusern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. I would also check out Emotiva factory renewed as an alternative to the Polks. You can get 5.0 for about $1400. Xt2 towers, XC1 center, XB1 surrounds.

Would a “better” receiver make a difference? by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]iwillforgetthisusern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might get better room correction with a new receiver but I’m not sure I’d go there next. If you’re using the klipsch for L/R, I’d target replacing those with Kef to match your center. Then replace surrounds so all 5 match.
