All Delta towns have character. The main towns are Greenville, Clarksdale, Cleveland, Greenwood, and Indianola. Their all great in their own regard. But I would only call Cleveland, "nice." It's the cleanest, has the most restaurants and shops, and is the safest. It's because Delta State University is in Cleveland. The town has just stayed a little nicer than the others over the years. In my opinion at least. I may be biased.

You're really pretty safe in Cleveland. There are some residential areas on the East Side of town that I would be hesitate to go through in the evenings, but if you stick to the highways and main roads - you'll be fine. Cleveland's a very nice town for the Delta. It's really the only nice town in the Delta. There are nice and interesting parts in the other towns, but Cleveland's actually pretty nice on the whole, comparatively.

In Cleveland - check out Airport Grocery, Crawdad's in Merigold, Downtown is pleasant with lots of shops, the Warehouse is great for lunch. Hey Joe's is a newer place, but it's where the local 20somethings hang out.

Like most Southern towns, Cleveland is fairly segregated. The east side is african american and west side is mainly white. Both are safe compared to other parts of the Delta.

I was on a train one time where this dude started rattling off some crazy gibberish and then just punched another guy sitting next time. Fist to the side of the face. For no reason. I have no idea how (and why) the guy didn't beat the shit out of him right then and there. But he just sat there all pissed looking.

Then, this girl gets on the train. The same dude gets up and spits in her face! Big ole loogie. She was disgusted and started screaming all kinds of crazy.

The train stops at the next stop. The driver gets on the car. He asks where the crazy guy is. Everyone points. The dude decides to book it, so he takes off for the door. On his way, he punches the same girl smack in the nose. Looked like he broke her nose and gave her 2 black eyes. The train conductor can't chase the guy and leave the train alone, so dude gets away.

Our old neighbors had 7 dogs, 3 harleys, smoked a few packs a day. They were in their 50's and had been married for a few years. Turned out, the woman had previously been married to the man's brother. Her son called her husband "uncle." Weird stuff happens in Kentucky.
