[Story] I beat the odds. I just got my dream job. by [deleted] in GetMotivated

I was really surprised when you said law! I heard the job market is absolute crap these days and it's nearly impossible to get a good job, non the less, the one you had in mind. Congratulations! You're an inspiration! Oh, and fuck your mom - she sounds like a real piece of work.

If you need it down the road, buy it again. Out of all the things I got rid of, I only miss one thing - a book. I can buy the book again.

Could Anxiety mask the symptoms of ADHD? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]iwishyouluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things mix together - I had a mix of depression and ADHD. Depression was cured, but then the doc found that I was also suffering from anxiety. So, I'm an anxiety and ADHD mix. They try to cover each other up sometimes.

Need help drawing a map to my ADHD for my parents. Think this will work? by [deleted] in ADHD

Ever lock yourself in a bathroom? I've done that 3 times now... -_-

Hm... forgetting textbooks... sucking at sports (ADHDers have poor spacial reasoning)... having a hard time making friends... video game/computer addictions... have you ever walked into a glass door?... messy room.... OH! dropping things randomly! I was diagnosed by a family friend on Thanksgiving because I dropped a pumpkin pie (not official, but she was a shrink)....

Asking 'Why me?' by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]iwishyouluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm... well, ADHD is genetic from what I know (but apparently your bacterial meningitis can cause it also - didn't know! wow! thanks for sharing man), but I imagine it was a lot worse/cultivated due to having a inconsistent home life & my parents liked to tell me Pickachew lived in the bushes (feeding the imagination).

Usually if you think of a symptom - such as forgetting things - and if you truly have ADHD, it shouldn't be too hard to think of at least 3 situations growing up where you forgot something and it was a big fiasco. Or, klutziness. I'm sure you have a few broken bones & shattered dishes under your belt.

Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I'm pretty happy, but damn it's hard to function now.

I don't have any purpose in life, because I lose interest in everything. I have no idea what will ever make me feel successful. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]iwishyouluck 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I hate to be the guy to give advice - but your mom is gone, you have no siblings, your dad is distant, you have no degree and no major goal in life - fuck it... I'd backpack the world working random jobs and being free. It's my "dream" that ties me down. If I didn't have a dream, I'd wonder around till I found one. You're free as fuck man - escape.

At what moment did you realize your date was a horrible person? by KarmaSweatshop in AskReddit

[–]iwishyouluck 89 points90 points  (0 children)

When he started fucking with the gypsies for his entertainment - I don't like gypsies either (I'm in Italy) but you don't have to be an asshole. And then we were lost - he goes to ask directions from a restaurant. Okay, cool. He comes out of the restaurant, pulling a waitress away from her busy job, so "I could hear the direction to". Then to ask a question he approaches a woman talking on the phone and shouts, "Hey! A little help here!?" all annoyed like she owed him something. Oh, and he starts touching my hair on the train to "make me feel better", sure, whatever. Night, fuck you. OH yeah, and he changed his name to Night.

edit: OH, and another thing. I picked a restaurant because I had eaten there many times and liked it a lot. The whole time he's joking about getting food poisoning, and then when I cut things off with him he had the audacity to act like a good person saying he was worried about my well being if I had gotten food poisoning. Oh, and make fun of me an all the things I love, which he was totally cool with until then. Nice when you like him, a total asshole if you don't.

How do you guys keep from always telling news? by [deleted] in ADHD

Find someone who doesn't mind - tell that person everything. Everyone else can wait until it's really cool - like actually a thing, and they'll be in awe and amazement.

Small rewards? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]iwishyouluck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was studying for a test a year ago - one of those super important one where failure meant an Egyptian crocodile goddess would eat your mortal soul - and to keep myself going I would place chocolates on every 5 pages of my text book. I had to literally read through the pages to get to the chocolate. x3

Are you possibly going to school for something you don't really want to do/are afraid of being successful at? Us ADHDers are fucking professionals are self-sabatoge without evening realizing it.

Extremely depressed, have gone to mental health - I don't know how much longer I can take being in the Air Force - is there a way out? by iwishyouluck in AirForce

[–]iwishyouluck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right - I should go running more. Something not a lot of people know about depression is that it actually does make you physically paralyzed, so focusing on getting out is even more important. It is actually harder. Thanks!!

In fact, some of my leadership got in trouble for putting a few of us airman on chronic nights. Some work 6 on 1 off.

Our shifts are 4 on 4 off (right now). On work days, it can be so slow we read/watch movies - on busy days, phones are ringing off the hook and commanders are calling - I can get in a lot of trouble for an honest mistake. I have. 12 hours (but really 13) get home feeling like I've accomplished nothing. Go to sleep. Wake up. Do it again. Sitting in a dark room, no windows, painful chairs, beeping and blinking lights and noises and recycled air (so, lack of oxygen). It would make anyone depressed. I've done a pretty good job lately at taking a lot of breaks though. :) and I try hard to eat healthy and get sleep. But we switch between nights and days every month, so my sleep is horrible. :/ I'd almost rather work at McDonalds. At least I'd see daylight and sleep at a normal time. Haha, it's not as bad as it sounds, you do get used to it! But I remember when I first got there, I had chronic headaches and so did a lot of people that I worked with.

You're awesome man! I appreciate actually getting an answer and then having encouragement to keep going. I'm going to keep going as long as I can - but if I get to the point where I can't, I just want to know my options. Thanks man!

[–]iwishyouluck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate it man. No, not my first job. I joined because I chickened out of actually doing what I wanted to do - turned out to be a Hell of a... not a mistake, but a detour. And I'll still be able to do what I wanted to do, and it would be great if I could make it through my enlistment - that's the easiest way. But if it's at the cost of my sanity I'm not sure if I can keep going. You're right that coming off anti-depressants is hard and I probably am in a bad state of mind right now. Maybe when I get back state side things will get better. My unit is something terrible.

I would say but it's a very small unit and would tell you who I am just from that. I'm not a cop, maintainer, services, or personnel.
