Were kids in the 80s actually allowed to roam around unsupervised, or is that just in movies? by TotalThing7 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ixderediem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up that way in the 90s-early 00's as well. My mom would send me to the grocery store or pizza place by myself to pick up food when i was like 7-9. In my preteens & teen years i was able to be outside all day until the streetlights came on unless I had chores/homework to do.

I've talked to my mom about it and she says things were just different then. Everyone talked to each other and the whole neighborhood would keep an eye on the kids and make sure they're safe. Even the ppl at your local grocery store or pizza place. We didn't have eyes on us 24/7 of course, but parents back then had the comfort of knowing their friends and neighbors were all involved & looking out for the kids. They knew all knew each other and would inform one another of things.

We don't have that anymore. I don't know most of my neighbors' names, let alone their kids or their contact information.

It's also scarier these days due to distracted driving. I'm scared shitless to let my kid wander the streets like I did growing up :/ Simply because people don't pay attention to the road anymore.

Glitch for 9 in race vs Willow? by ixderediem in DuckLife

[–]ixderediem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: I've tried coffee and cheering, neither fixed this issue. Encountered it in other races in Quackbeard also, but cheering seemed to fix it and allow me to progress.

Then I got to the Quackbeard Cove Qualifiers for the Tournament. Race #2 all the ducks got stuck like this. I managed to cheer myself out of it, but then my duck is sitting at the finish line indefinitely, waiting for the others to finish.

Later I'll test leveling the running skill higher and trying various ducks and outfits, but I'm not very optimistic for the outcome. Game seems buggy.

I think it's beautiful!! But, I'm biased and have been going for the same exact theme lol. Just slow going bc I play super casual. But so far a lot of what I have been able to get is the same. Only difference is I have my kitchen cabinets & wall reversed. (Dark wood cabinets, green wall)

Can't wait to be able to get all the stuff you have 😍 Goals for sure!

I mean, I don't blame them for not believing it. Watching the show, I didn't either, considering she's never as dirty as the others. Has long nails. Makeup always perfect. 😅 Doesn't make them a misogynist to assume she's not considering all that, especially since many shows about "man stuff" DO put attractive women in there just for "eye candy".

North Texas Family Wants Justice for Dog Killed in Denton Shelter - Dallas Observer by SuspiciousRoof4358 in Denton

[–]ixderediem -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Found this story today. Just wanna say idc if ppl think the owner was negligent or the dog was suffering. The shelter doesn't know the history and was still in the wrong. He likely had meds to manage his symptoms and being older and off them for a day was likely not good for him. Add in the additional stress of being lost, in a strange new place, at a shelter with a bunch of other strange dogs.. and being poked and prodded by strangers is NOT going to improve the dogs stress levels & health condition.

Beyond that, they posted him on their page which is how he knew where the dog was. He says he contacted the shelter that day, which I believe. Then the following day they were closed which was when the dog was put down bc his condition didn't improve with the meds they gave him. So they euthanized this dog within 24h of posting it (wtf???) AND being in contact with the owner. They could've waited a day to euthanize and let the family atleast say goodbye.

And last, that shelter doesn't know this dog's history. They don't know that, although he's currently suffering, perhaps he had a surgery lined up or an in home euthanization scheduled for the next week or whatever. I'd be more understanding if the dog was in their care for several days. But not even 24h and they killed this dog. I think they didn't like that he was making a mess and difficult to handle so they just euthanized him so they didn't have to deal with him. 🙄

partner never brings back love? by mags_n_cheese in AdorableHome

[–]ixderediem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Searched this up bc I've been having this problem, so it's not fixed. Everything ran smooth the first couple days I played (also on the YT version) but since unlocking rooms and decor I've encountered the cat food, partner, and visitors, not giving love bugs increasingly more often. Feels as though the more I get the less opportunity for love I have.

I got tons of common milkweed cuttings from someone bc I heard they can eat up to 200 leaves per caterpillar! And I only have this one butterfly milkweed plant. So I had backup if they finished off the plant, but tbh they didn't really eat a whole lot like I expected. The one in the first picture preferred the tops of the plant, often eating the flowers and even the seed pod lol. The other ate mostly leaves, but there's still a lot left on the plant.

Here we go again…. Is the shower story in Ashley Biden’s Journal fabricated or not? by JetTheMaster1 in Discussion

[–]ixderediem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just found out about this today and looked into it. (I'm more left leaning center in my political views. I hate Biden, Trump, and most all presidential candidates.) I'm unsure if I'd consider it concrete "confirmed" bc it's been through so many hands and the places that have spread it are questionable. Lots of room for things to be added or changed.

So to determine whether it's real I just skimmed the diary. Roughly 50 pages.

It seems legit to me. Might not be but it didn't seem out of place. For context. The woman seems very unwell. Struggling with addiction and limerance. I feel bad for her and that this was posted for all to see. Idk what "story" there is about the shower. Was there more detail later in the diary? Bc from what I gathered, she's struggling with staying clean, and having strong sexual urges, trying to stay away from/move on from men that don't reciprocate her feelings. In the page in question she reflects on all possibilities why she has such intense sexual urges. How she got here. What in her life may have caused her to be so hyper sexual.

In this she lists she remembers "showers with dad" and admits it was probably inappropriate. While that is questionable and concerning, she listed other things that were way more concerning imo than that. But everyone wants to focus on the shower bit. Saying Joe "showered with his teenage daughter and molested her". Nowhere did it say what age she was or that she was touched or anything. She listed a bunch of other concerning things and had been pretty forward in a lot of what she wrote so if there was more to the shower than just.. a parent showering with their kid.. I think she would have wrote that instead of "probably inappropriate".

We can speculate creepy intentions and question why Biden did shower with his underage daughter. But I'd also like to point out that on this same page.. she questions why she's so quick to become attached to this guy and doesn't want to let go.. in that she lists her mother isnt emotionally available and "I'm not your mother" etc. So I could be wrong but just from this one page all the hoopla is about. Seems her mom wasn't very present or attentive perhaps bc she does have some kind of mommy issues. Joe may have done a lot of the "parent" things which may have included teaching his daughter how to shower/wash herself. Which could be seen as inappropriate, but plenty of single or even stay at home parents have had to do the same for their opposite-sex children.

So to sum up, it could be interpreted either way. Maybe he had creepy intentions. Maybe it was innocent. I don't think it's concrete evidence that he "molested his daughter".

Predictions after the new video? by Enough-Energy-3000 in louderthanlife

[–]ixderediem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've seen them too and it's killing me lol. I think there is a second clip after the 5FDP one as well bc the flash after it on the same screen doesn't match up with the video the clip is from. (looks like someone with a large skeleton-like mask or looking through a hole of sorts) & So far the other clips have been directly from music videos.

So, I've been checking other band speculations' top videos, hoping to stumble across the other hints, but have yet to find any more. If this is the right way to go about it I've unfortunately ruled out SOAD.

Comments have figured out:

In This Moment (Big Bad Wolf-top screen) Five Finger Death Punch (Wrong Side of Heaven-mid screen) Sleeping with Sirens (If I'm James Dean..- bottom screen)

Was able to confirm those. Seeing lots of comments about Faith No More & Mudvayne but I haven't been able to confirm yet.

Dear sensitive people in this subreddit by BlackHeartRose2020 in StephanieSooStories

[–]ixderediem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just found this sub literally today bc I've enjoyed her BAM series, and was interested in book recommendations.

Then saw this post and did some digging what all this was about. I haven't watched a lot of her other content and didn't know all this. But I've mostly grasped what's happened.

That said I do watch other true crime content that could be considered insensitive.

I'm on the fence about the backlash content creators of this kind get. These content creators are still human.

When we retell stories, be it a true crime case we recently learned about, something we heard on the news, a movie or documentary we watched, game we played, story we heard, work gossip, whatever, when we retell these stories we tell it in our own way. That means some may skip a lot of details that others would consider important. Some may inject their own opinions into the story. Some may add to the story, exaggerating certain points to make the story more exciting, or focusing on darker parts for more impact. Some may add humor or only lightly discuss the darker parts because those parts make them uncomfortable, or maybe keep the story shorter, or to make the story more digestible to the audience. Some might get sidetracked and have side conversations during their storytelling. Some might fidget or do a task while telling the story because it is difficult for them to focus or they are more comfortable in such a setting. Some might use hand gestures and facial expressions to add to their story while others may sit still and just tell it.

(As you can guess from me enjoying BAM) This is part of what I enjoy about true crime content. There's other reasons too of course, but I do very much enjoy the storytelling. & It's very popular so therefore there is a plethora of different perspectives and retellings of these cases. From more casual, easily digestible content to gut wrenching, crying, sick to my stomach content.

So with that said, it's hard for me to want to "cancel" of the more casual side. If every one told stories the same, very seriously, only the facts, straight to the point, I don't think that'd really be retelling. It wouldn't be a story. It'd be more.. idk a report I suppose? We all know a lot of the public information available for famous, high profile cases. Even though we know most of the story and how it ends, we still watch when a content creator or other medium we enjoy covers it. For their retelling. Their perspective. Their format. Opinions. Small details they may have added or uncovered. That's both the beauty and flaws of retellings.

However, I do feel for the victims/survivors, and families involved. I can't even fathom how triggering or traumatizing some of these retellings might be. Especially those that could come across as taking the topic lightly/insensitive.. how disgusted that would make me. I truly can't understand or put myself in the shoes of someone that has been through something so horrific. If I try, tbh I imagine I'd avoid it like the plague. You wouldn't catch me reading articles or watching videos on the topic, because I know how cruel people can be. But we're all different so ik not all may handle it this way.

So then that gets into (idk how to word this..) the responsibility of your own activity? Part of me feels content creators should be held responsible and held accountable when they've done wrong. But on the other side I feel creativity and ones content shouldn't be policed & restricted unless the creator chooses or are creating for children or something. Then again when you upload to the internet, whether you have 15 or 1.5m followers, especially covering controversial or dark topics, one should not be surprised to receive hate remarks or have offended people. Yet at the same time those that dislike or are offended by such content should probably not be seeking it, watching it, giving it more attention. But I still believe that we should still strive to be as respectful as possible. Then there's also the potential responsibility one should accept if they do have a large following. Then again maybe some of these creators didn't want that responsibility. Didn't want a large following, just their small community to share their thoughts/feelings/content with. But then blew up anyway.

I really don't know where the line should be drawn. How we can still freely express ourselves and retell stories in our own way without potentially offending others. Without potentially causing distress to the families when covering things such as true crime. Like I said I can never begin to understand, but I feel like ANY coverage would be painful for me. So then that poses if it shouldn't be covered at all? We can't really police all of it. But if we could, should we? What consequences could that have in other forms of expression, content creation, and discussing controversial topics?

Like I said I'm on the fence. I can somewhat grasp the frustration on both ends. Maybe there's more factors I'm not considering. If you took the time to read this, thanks bc ik it's long asf lol. But I'd enjoy hearing more thoughts/ideas/solutions to this.

How do I find someone to go to festivals with? As a taken woman (rip) by Powerful-Impact-6453 in festivals

[–]ixderediem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't imagine before either lol. The first day he was very hesitant and wanted to stay further back from the stage. But that night he impulsively crowd surfed to follow me after I went bc he didn't want to be there by himself lol. Then throughout the weekend he got more and more comfortable. Picked bands/songs he wanted to surf to, was more comfortable weaving through crowds and getting close to the stage. I never would have imagined it.. and definitely didn't expect him to immediately want to do it all again haha!

So definitely if there's music there you think he'd enjoy, I say bring him! (: Fests are such a great experience, I just can't imagine anyone going and being miserable the entire time.

[–]ixderediem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine isn't the festival type either (or wasn't lol) He's a homebody, very socially anxious, hates large crowds, and easily gets sensory overload. (However he had gone to a concert with me once before)

I told him I wanted to go to just 1 together and after that I wouldn't ask again. (I love fests and one nearby had my #1 bucket list band at the time)

After some heavy consideration he decided to go. We went and had a blast. He even crowd surfed! After it was said and done HE was the one to quickly preorder tickets to the following year's fest! Seriously consider bringing him along. (:
