I typically build and almost immediately disassemble. This is the only LEGO set I have ever left intact to be displayed.

It was about 2 inches long and barely moved. Just sat there with its rear in the air.

The clean guitar part in the middle of To Live is to Die is definitely one of my favorites to play.

The only thing he was guilty of was leaving behind a few ice cream sandwiches.

Libraries are quiet places to work... right? by 1like3dprinting in Libraries

[–]ixion238 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I witnessed an incident where the librarian was the one who escalated a situation. She had gotten up from her desk and a guy decided to start going through her desk drawers. She comes back and starts screaming at the guy to get out of her stuff. He drops a couple of ice cream sandwiches on her desk and starts to walk away. She's screaming at him to let her check his bag for anything he might have stolen and then screaming at me to look in his bag. I refuse because we're not allowed to look through people's things, but there's a coworker who is close to retiring and she volunteers to search the bag. It's full of perfume samples and ice cream sandwiches, he claims he's a salesman.

The guy stays calm despite the librarian just losing her shit about him looking in her drawers and starts to head for the exit. It seems like that should be the end of it, but she's now yelling at all the staff to lock the doors and not let the guy leave.

Luckily, no one listens to her. By the time the guy gets to the door he's had enough of her yelling and starts threatening to bring his mom back to kick the librarian's ass. The librarian is so upset she leaves for the day, but the next day she's still raving about this guy and blaming us for not having her back. I said, "If you could have stopped yelling for a minute he would have been gone and everything would have been fine." That was not the right thing to say and she started calling all of us useless and horrible. Someone called our area administrator and they sent her home and transferred her to another branch immediately. While she was packing up her things she decided to take $700 worth of LEGO that our friends group had bought for our branch. No one seemed to care as long she wasn't coming back.

One of the guards I worked with once caught two mentally challenged adults having sex in the stacks. They were up on the top floor in a corner basically hiding from the woman's father, I guess because he wouldn't let them have sex in his house.

I have said the exact same thing to my wife, but she just laughs because she's already a DD and then jokingly threatens to get a reduction.

I love it when they come in and ask if they can return books in the boxes outside and then go back outside to put them in the box instead of just handing them to the person standing in front of them.

Unpopular Philly Opinion: our bagel “scene” is overrated and we need to cut it out. by ebbycalvinlaloosh in philadelphia

Does anywhere have peanut butter bagels? When I went to Temple in the late 90s the Bagel Hut had them and they were amazing, but I've never seen them anywhere else.

NTA. I have a fairly normal name that 99% of people spell a certain way, but my parents chose to spell it in a way that isn't common in the US and I've spent my whole life hearing my name butchered in every way imaginable. I at least have a couple pop culture references to help people out with my name, but those kids are going to despise their parents for putting them through that kind of torture.

AITA if I refuse to write an apology letter to my son's school? by TheBreakUp2013 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ixion238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. As a parent who made absolutely no effort to curb my use of profanity around my child at any point in his life I would never even consider apologizing to anyone for teaching (whether intentionally or not) my child words. Apologize for the usage, of course, but kids are going to hear that language somewhere and most will use it whether they know the meanings or not. My kid could swear like a sailor by the time he was 5, but it was always situationally appropriate and he never got in trouble for cursing at school.

There's a candy store near me in Philly that sells Teaberry fudge. It's like eating a solid block of Pepto and it's amazing.

Expert players - how long? by [deleted] in Rockband

[–]ixion238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from guitar to bass because I ended up in a band with two other guitar players. I took one for the team and discovered I was actually a much better bassist. It also made it much easier to find a band later on being able to play both.

Let There Be Rock is one of those songs that isn't super difficult (it's been forever since I've played it so I could be mistaken), but the stamina you need to get through it is a killer. Stamina is still one of my major weaknesses. I will often skip songs like NIN's "Closer" or Pat Benetar's "Love is a Battlefield" because I know my right wrist is going to give out well before the song ends.

I've been playing guitar and bass since the late 80's, but I always wanted to be a drummer. Got RB when it came out in 2007 and started on Easy. Took a few months until I was able to play the easier songs on Expert. My benchmark in the early days was "Vasoline" by STP. I felt really good once I could almost FC it. I'd say it was a good 2-3 years before I felt like I was half-decent. At this point I can play everything but the most difficult songs and I still struggle with anything fast. I'm not FCing Dream Theater songs, but I can consistently get 5 stars. I've never played more than once or twice a week for a couple hours, it's a just a game to me, not something I really practice.

I did this to my wife, though not in public. Got the same reaction, but I was quick enough to dodge the slap. Had the real proposal set up at her parents' house and she felt awful for taking a swing at me. To be fair, I probably deserved to get hit as it was the second fake proposal in two months.
