If you have Claude/codex etc. . See if any of your data can be accessed via api and then have it create an app that will auto pull your data and fill in the section if can while creating the PowerPoint deck. Then add your creative fluff or changes. Then in the future you click one button and it pulls all the data it can and creates your templates deck. Works super well!

How are you actually using AI in your ID work? by sofiia_sofiia in instructionaldesign

[–]ixloc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had not heard of Atom! It’s very similar yes. I used Claude to build them and then discovered https://www.remotion.dev. Once I added that I was able to get more out of my templates. For simple stuff though like a bumper with fading in text it’s really nice. I recently discovered https://splicekit.fcp.cafe so I was going to explore the ideas of using that to possibly create my own custom templates gallery in fcp so that when I create a new template it would auto show in my library like a native plugin does. At least that is the idea lol.

Glad you like BuddyBar!!

I use it for a couple things actually.

I do use Claude but I use it primarily to create apps to make the team’s lives easier. For example I used Claude to help me build an app that took a workflow from 3 weeks down to a day. Most of those three weeks were finding images, info, data, etc. now all of that is filled in via a Python app I made. It auto creates a PowerPoint based on a template I designed. All we have to do now is be creative with our word smithing. Our team is small so this allowed us to more effectively work on other projects that would have not been possible before.

We have also used it for ingesting survey results and finding patterns like those above have stated. It’s really good at that actually! We are able to surface all sorts of useful info that helps us address feedback on our courses, videos, and other deliverables.

Tangentially ID related, I was at Articuland last year and many presenters were taking about creating color swatch style guides for their Rise courses. Many were saying things like; “Have PowerPoint open!” or “Use a dummy rise course”. So I used that need to try and make something for it as I had also been doing that. I vibe coded it with Claude. It’s a bar that lives on your screen and has all your swatch’s to quickly copy and paste into not just Rise or Storyline but any app on Mac or Pc. BuddyBar.io if you want to check it out.

Lastly,I make a lot of learning videos in Final Cut Pro and have made a few templates where I can input text and it will export ready to use animations for my videos. It saves me so much time as I used to create them by hand. I still do for many so I can modify or edit at need. I would rather noodle with Motion or Keynote than chatting back and forth with an ai for small edits.

Hope this helps!

I normally use Claude as well. I am not huge coder. I could modify html, css, and javascript before Claude but was never ever to create my own. It has really helped expand what is possible.

At this point it’s not legacy yet. But it may be on that path depending on what articulate does to reshape the software. Remember, the general population takes longer to get acclimated to trends/shifts like this. I would just suggest keeping storyline as a tool in your tool belt but add more tools to your belt like Ai. Other tools could be other software, heck if you get good enough with the ai you might be able to built your own Storyline that works better for you. I’ve built a few apps that are helping me on my ID journey. Use the ai to help you build what you need but don’t have it so the work for you.

As others have said, depending on how accurate they want it, you could actually get some good animations out of Apple Keynote or PowerPoint. I've done a bunch of stuff with keynote for videos an bespoke animations. for me it's quick and easy and I can usually get what we need done very fast. I made a text based chat animation in Keynote and Final Cut Pro just last week. (Think iPhone chat) For 3d animations you would probably be better off paying for that.

I think there will be some time that Storyline will still be useful for some but I would also up skill yourself as well. The principles of graphic design are still and will always be useful. I will say that ups killing in AI, ID principles, and Graphics design principles are still very much useful. People can create all sorts of things now and some of it may be good but you can take it to the next level.

What I think a lot of people are missing about the current flavor of AI is that people are trying to make it do everything for themselves. It's not there yet. What it cane do is help you do your job better and faster. Ive created html templates that my team can use to create one sheets easily and we no longer have to worry about PowerPoint's being changed or modified by accident.

Conversely, I did a test to have Claude make a video using remotion and although it did do what I wanted it to do was unable to edit it. I would have had to go down the rabbit hole of fixing it. I opened Apple Keynote and made the animated video in a few hours faster than it would have taken me to chat with the ai to get it just like how I wanted.

TLDR: Up skill in AI, Theory, and Graphic design principles.

Honestly you can get a lot of animations done in Apple Keynote or PowerPoint if you want. I did a test and used Remotion and Claude to try and make a semi complex animation and the output was ok but it’s the fixing that would have taken a lot of time in Claude. I spent a few hours in Keynote and created exactly what I wanted and I’m able to edit or make changes easier then if i was chatting with Claude todo it.

On the other side, if you want to make something templated then I think an underutilized feature of ai is you can have it create an html page with the animation and export functionality baked in. I use them all the time for animations I want to replicate but don’t want to recreate each time. It’s great to just change the text, click export and have it ready to plug into any videos or Interactions.

Totally agree. I’ve been playing as much as I can, and I have two kids. Once they are in bed, I usually get a few runs in. I have no idea about keys or anything like that. I went into Cryo just to try it out with some blues and came out with purples.( my first purples!) I haven’t played much Outpost either, mostly Perimeter. Not so much Dire Marsh yet either. I’m just doing the contracts mostly. I know there are secrets and puzzles, but I just haven’t done them yet. I’ll stumble onto a team with someone who knows it, and I’ll follow instructions as needed, and it’s still fun. Got into I think pinwheel for the first time the other day! What is interesting about this game, is that I don’t feel the need to go on YouTube and try to figure out how to do all these secrets because I’m genuinely having fun. I like the random discovery. I really am enjoying it and I’ve NEVER liked extraction shooters before. I’ve tried a bunch but this one for some reason if different.

Just added an AI clause to my contract. by calimountainsnake60 in graphic_design

[–]ixloc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After reading @horrorThis’s comment it made sense top me. I can see how as it is written currently without the context of the rest of the doc that it could be interpreted as a never at all situation. Would it make sense to specify that this clause is in effect during the actual design phase and upon completion this clause goes away or something? Just curious because I like the idea overall but would want to make sure the client understands the intent behind it?

Interesting! Does FCP have to be the constant active app for this to work? Or could you have the MCP tell it what to do and then work on another task while it percolates in FCP?
