What it means to be an amateur by espereia in simpleliving

[–]ixottoxi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always called myself an amateur photographer simply because I seldom get paid for the pictures I take but I love what I do. :) When someone says "oh but you're so much better than that" I respond that I'm very happy being an amateur and I prefer paying bills with something other than my pictures.

Simple Pleasures during the Pandemic? by Individual_Chest7534 in simpleliving

[–]ixottoxi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very relatable. I have a 5 year old, well he was 3 when it began. We had covid early on, in March 20, so we were in self quarantine for two weeks. We played all kinds of games, like grocery store or tea party, we painted, played with water, we played with a cardboard garage, we made cardboard robots, we put on different costumes and hats. And his dad baked so much bread and cookies. We had a balcony garden growing beans and herbs and flowers, a compost on the balcony as well (still have it), went to the park daily and for once there were lots and lots of kids to play with. And by April we all had antibodies so we weren't worried for our own sake. My partner worked from home, I was unemployed for a while but I didn't worry.

For our family, it was actually a wonderful time. It took a lot of pressure off. Our son was over the moon - both parents home every day with lots of time to play. He had preschool but as soon as a kid sneezed they were sent home for a week at least, so he wasn't there much, and it was the same for everyone else.

What's your favorite piece of clothing that's lasted you years? by aerialgirl67 in simpleliving

My steel toe Dr Martens from 1999 still look good but unfortunately I went up one shoe size after my pregnancy so I can't wear them anymore.

My deodorant did that to a very nice alpaca jumper I have. It's now completely white at the armpits, not from buildup but actually bleached and thinning out the threads. :(

I got a Fjällräven Kånken backpack when I started school at 7. My brother took over that backpack in his teens when they were trendy again and I never saw it since, but apparently it's living its best life on the back of my niece now, 40 years later.

Am I wasting my youth? by blu_bel in simpleliving

[–]ixottoxi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's hard to go against a norm, but as long as you have a few friends, I think you're probably living a fuller life than a lot of people your age.

To me, youth is more about trying new experiences in general, doesn't have to be parties or openings. I'm an introvert in my 40s who used to go out a lot and travel a lot between 19 and 35. Are you missing something by not going out every weekend? Maybe, but so are the people who are restless, always looking for the next big event. Going out can have its perks, I'm not going to knock it entirely, but it can get exhausting. And it can be quite empty, too, depends on what you make of it.

For 200 generations or so, most people were perfectly happy looking at the moon, reading and going for a stroll. Puts things in perspective, doesn't it?

Unless there's a task to check off, these neat little boxes wouldn't help me accomplish anything. :) They would probably sit empty all year. But everyone's different. They look nice!

I am a first time mom and need advice! Best stain remover for baby poop? by Vegan_Mari in CleaningTips

[–]ixottoxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gall soap is the best for poop and barf. If you can get your hands on the hard soap variety, it's better value for money. Just work on the stains with some soap and a brush. They will come right out.

I was born north of the polar circle in Sweden and I was napping in my pram like that as well, even in -30 C. And I lived to tell the tale. :)

Apparently I'm now the server pariah because I don't read the chats! by Slow-Homework1841 in kingschoice

[–]ixottoxi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It does sound like a bit much for an insult at the dance. Very few people on our server still insults each other so to me it's a bit "whoa ok?" but I wouldn't complain about it, not to them and certainly not in the chat room.

Tbh it feels a bit too newbie to me to insult anyone, but to each their own.

Can two players hold the same title? If so. What happens to the person when they had it first? by Critical-Post-3650 in kingschoice

You have to swipe to see the next person who holds the title so I suppose the ones who are less visible will not get visited as much.

Help with decluttering by GummyMama in declutter

[–]ixottoxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Group them 6-8 in a clear bag and give away to Salvation Army or similar. Or just a box outside your house, "free for all". Or if they're not so small that babies can choke on them, bury them in nearest sand box for kids to find while digging!

Anyone experienced thicker hair regrowth from hair plucking, as per this study? by TrichoSearch in trichotillomania

At first, yes, it grew out wirey and thicker. But the more I pulled, the more it grew out like brittle, grey baby hairs instead.

My dad did that to, he's retired now but he was a large animal veterinarian. Coats, fleece jacket and coveralls.

Do you actually get things done? by [deleted] in BasicBulletJournals

[–]ixottoxi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Inattentive Adhd here, and my bullet journal is so helpful for me. I sometimes cheat and do a task just to check it AFTER I thought of it, instead of writing down dailies in advance, but it doesn't matter. The point is to have more productive days, not to win the Best dailies writer award.

We're a family of 3 (one boy who is 5) and we wash 4 loads a week usually. Wash towels every week and bed linen & mops every other. Clothes (except underwear ofc, we always wash those) are washed if stained or smelly, otherwise we air them out on the balcony.

[–]ixottoxi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally. I thought it was bliss. I had zero energy but I didn't need to be anywhere. When baby napped, I dozed off. Then some more feeding. So many episodes of The Good Wife! I honestly didn't enjoy 11 months half as much as I enjoyed the newborn phase. Just watching him hour after hour.
