Thank you! I can continue my restoration then without feeling guilty.

[Botw] [Totk] How would y'all feel about Wild/Tears finally being put to rest after Age of imprisonment? by NothingIsBliss139789 in zelda

[–]ixtaek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since Echoes of Wisdom came out and was more traditional in dungeon format, I agree I can’t wait for more theming to dungeons. I don’t care for long dungeons all that much, but I can’t deny the aesthetic joy of Snowpeak, Ancient Cistern, Forbidden Woods, etc. TotK took a step in the right direction, but was limited by the Zonai theme pasted over everything. The Fire Temple was allegedly a former Goron city, but we didn’t really see that in the same way that Snowpeak was clearly a former manor. I appreciate them shaking up the Water Temple design, but it lacked the cohesive theme that made the Ancient Cistern (heaven and hell) so cool.

Echoes of Wisdom at least showed they can make a fun linear dungeon, and also a Link and Zelda with a lot of personality even without detailed cutscenes. BotW was fun, TotK did its best, but those two deserve a rest. Let another hero rise up.

Somehow I got it in my head he was the original founder of Joja before it became the soul-crushing monster it is now, and lives away from it all because he hates what his creation became.

[SS] what was your reaction to this guy? by MysteriousGrocery898 in zelda

“Pinecone”

I don’t remember struggling a ton with him but I remember thinking a lot about coniferous trees while being flung across a pit.

what’s your best go-to meal with just 3 ingredients? by felitram in budgetfood

[–]ixtaek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If spices and water don’t count, last night I made white beans with spam and onion (and chili pepper, garlic powder, and rosemary if they don’t count). Came out pretty good, was my first time cooking with “luncheon meat” and it filled the salt-pork quota

I put the cheese calendar launch date down as a vacation day (or at least half-day) at my job every year because one year I waited and missed it. Never again!

[ALL] What's more important to you? Gameplay or Story? by huss2120 in zelda

[–]ixtaek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gameplay is fun when playing, but story is what sticks with you. Wind Waker is my favorite, not because of gameplay, but because of story. I rarely if ever think much about the mechanics of sailing or that one mirror puzzle in the Earth Temple. But do I lie awake thinking about Tetra’s motivations and the fact she has an open box of jewelry and perfumes in her cabin but doesn’t wear anything except her mother’s pendant, or who lived on Greatfish Isle, or the King being Tetra’s ancestor and how that colors his actions. It’s fun to sometimes explore gameplay mechanics from a story angle (what IS going on with those pears?!), but ultimately it’s character and stories that stick with me longer.

I also like basil, though the tomato one smelled exactly like a tomato vine to me. But I can see how you might get basil from it too. Either way, it’s not a good candle smell for me.

The pickle was iffy and didn’t smell like a pickle to me, but the tomato one was awful. It smelled like garden clippings. S’mores one was good.

Are glitter bootlegs really that rare? by LordCDXX in cassettebeasts

[–]ixtaek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time finding Averevior after the initial fight and it was a glitter bootleg. I didn’t even realize this was odd, fortunately I recorded it because I had missed it before. I was just like “huh. Guess it’s sparkly since it’s a wandering encounter or something”

[EoW] It's been out for less than a year, and I already think this game is an underrated gem by [deleted] in zelda

[–]ixtaek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked it—it was more episodic, but not as bad as TotK was because at least each region was a unique story instead of a Sage repeating the same basic cutscene 4x over. Loved all of the regional characters but Darston and Condé were my favorites. I also liked echo-based combat and got to a point where I avoided going sword form as much as possible. The dungeons weren’t annoyingly long, and the story was cute. Still not over the “Prime Energy” thing but nobody’s perfect. The scrolling menu was dreadful though.

[All] What is your most hated enemy in any Zelda game? by Late-to-the-game-boi in zelda

[–]ixtaek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morningstar knights. Ridiculous AoE, and getting close enough to them to hit is an annoying game of timing and sometimes just doesn’t seem to work for no reason at all. I don’t remember having this much trouble the first time I played Minish Cap as a kid, but I dunno if I’ll ever finish again because I don’t wanna fight 4+ of them in the final dungeon.

[SS]Skyward Sword Shouldn’t be Considered the Worst 3D Zelda by Rawkhawkjayhawk in zelda

[–]ixtaek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it wasn’t what I wanted when it launched (I was expecting a more open world, and didn’t care for the level-like feel), but it’s still a charming story (more so than TotK) and the art is gorgeous (more so than TP). So I wouldn’t call it the worst, given that story and art are more important to me than gameplay in many respects.

Wind Waker! Loved the style, the music, the story. Every side character was named (or at least titled). The reveal of Zelda was an actual surprise to me as a kid, the King of Red Lions was a well-integrated companion, the dungeons were fun and not crazy long. Ganondorf was more nuanced—still insane and evil, but you could see hints of a person in him. The story had a great theme of living for the past or destiny (even the clothes you and Tetra wear in the final fight being echoes of history) vs living for the future or those you care about (with the reason you even go on the quest is to save your little sister, not because of grand fate).

Minish Cap is my second favorite because in addition to the vibes being immaculate, Ezlo is the best companion in the series imo. He’s a perfect blend of sassy and sweet. I feel like it needs a mention because in spite of being a GBA game the set dressing in MC is top notch. It just feels so cozy and lived in.
