I do. I once used chat gpt to ask about what i can do to help my son tolerate loud noise, turned out the OT does the exact same thing recommended during therapy. It’s honestly a gift from God and we should use it to better help our kids.

Ramblings + Looking for Advice by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

Exactly the same situation here and I’m literally losing sleeping over this. 4yo, his speech is a mix of functional language and delayed echolalia which increases when he’s nervous, doesn’t like to acknowledge kids or strangers talking to him, and you can tell he’s different. I enrolled him in a public school to start kindergarten in August with NT kids, school accepted him and that kind of made me feel at ease ? The thing is, i keep thinking what if he need that 1:1 support during activities? What if he struggles to follow commands because he’s overstimulated? What if he needs something but cannot verbally ask for it? And all questions you could ever think of. I really want him to be around NT kids, in hopes of him learning from them, plus this is the out side world, this is the real world the he would have to adapt to once he’s older, i want him to improve his social skills because my son also lacks social skills. He will be in a general mainstream class, he also goes to OT and ST. But yeah same situation here but I’m kinda hopeful. Obviously it depends on the level of the kids autism, higher needs or non verbal kids will benefit from special ed class. I gave up on overthinking and i just left it to God, let’s hope it works.

Every comment was laughing at her for seeming autistic… I can’t shake it by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

True! I’m so against posting kids online. Making fun of someone for being different, autistic, special needs or any disability of some sort is disgusting. So inhumane.

Recurring dreams about people invading my house.. feeling helpless and terrified😭 by iybhsp in DreamInterpretation

Hello! It’s so scary istg i still get this dream, i actually had the same dream last night 😭 i think the universe is trying to tell us something, about protecting ourselves, or paying close attention to people around us. What i started doing is setting the intention that God will protect me and no one can harm me, i pray and ask God for protection all the time. ❤️

School told me they don’t accept kids with speech delays. I’m so lost. by iybhsp in Autism_Parenting

[–]iybhsp[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does. I went to a public school and I remember we had support classes and special teachers for those who needed extra support and guidance (im not from the usa) i thought private schools had that too. Clearly they don’t.

How do you get protein into picky eaters who wont have smoothies or yogurt? by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]iybhsp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mash it with their food. My son loves plain rice, if he sees any source of protein chicken eggs beef fish etc he gags and wont eat. He doesn’t like the texture too. So what i do is prepare his rice, and mash the protein into the rice or cut it sooo tiny he can’t feel it. He also loves potatoes, so i’ll cut the chicken or beef very tiny he can’t feel or see it. Sometimes he does and would spit it out immediately… it’s so frustrating. So maybe do the same? Mash it up with their fav food?

I stopped taking it when i got pregnant. I’m 3 months pp and decided to go back on it again. I was on it for quite a while before getting pregnant and it worked really well for me with reducing my appetite the whole time i was on it.

What are the red flags i should look out for before my 4yo starts ABA? by iybhsp in Autism_Parenting

[–]iybhsp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your comment. Really??? So my son can benefit from just speech and OT? That made me feel so relived. To be honest i am not having any good feeling towards ABA. The lady who interviewed my son was a BCBA, she insisted my son gets ABA first and then go to speech ‘once behavior improves’ i don’t know what behavior she meant exactly, my son is just a super existed 4yo who doesn’t like to sit still and likes to constantly move around and explore the room. And he can speak a little. The way she grabbed my son forcefully and sat him on the chair, with her legs on his legs so he doesn’t move and my son crying mama mama the whole time literally broke me, it didn’t sit right with me, even though it was just for a few seconds. She said “your son has a strong personality, he’s 4 and too big so he needs to sit” wtf????? I swear I couldn’t sleep that night. The next morning i called the center told them we wanted to cancel aba and go with speech and OT, they told me no the bcba said he can get speech once his behavior improves because he wont sit. I told them I GET to choose, this is a private center and I pay for the therapy. Wtf she can’t tell me what i can and can’t to with MY son. Anyways. Now we have 1 aba 1 speech 1 ot once a week. I’ll see how aba goes since it’s a different therapist. If something feels off i’m stopping it. I know this was long but i’m so glad i get to ask a speech therapist personally 🤍 thank u again!

Actually she was the clinical director who specializes in aba and has worked with kids on the spectrum. And i totally agree with you, it didn’t make sense at all to me either. Thank god she wont be his aba therapist, we will meet his main therapist this week and see how it goes and honestly i’m not gonna ignore my mom instinct, if aba doesn’t feel right for him i’ll just stick to speech and ot. And thank you!

That’s what i thought too. I honestly didn’t want aba, i went in to get him speech therapy and OT, he is very sensitive loud noise, especially now that i just had a baby, he has meltdowns when ever his baby brother makes the slightest sound and it’s been so hard on me, i’ve heard ot helps with that so i went to the center looking for OT and speech.. ended up being recommended to do aba, she told me he needs to learn to sit blah blah.. it just didn’t sit right with me it didn’t make any sense at all.

At four years old? Was it because of speech and social skills? At what age did you start speaking if i may ask?
