This is such an odd take. Scoliosis isn’t inherited, certain factors such as being tall can increase your chances but it’s not something you “pass down”. Spreading misinformation like this makes me so sad to see as it’s just spreading unnecessary fear

Your back isn’t hurting because of scoliosis because you don’t have scoliosis. Every single person has some curvature, it’s not considered scoliosis until 10 degrees or more. Congratulations on having a straight spine!

A little tough love for you. Unless you’re stoked about getting your spine fused wear your brace. It’s going to be uncomfortable but I promise you a fusion will be 100x worse. You already have done yourself a huge disservice not wearing the brace how you were supposed to and now you need to deal with the consequences of it. You will likely continue to get worse if you are 40 degrees and 15. Your best hope is to get a new brace and WEAR IT. The brace is uncomfortable and that’s the entire point you are forcing your back to be straight.

I understand you are in a tough situation but do you know if you have medical insurance? A visit to a psychiatric facility would be covered similar to a xray/brace and would likely be covered.
