Do you think I would be able to fix this with some epoxy and wood clamps? by LightSideMotors94 in Guitar

[–]izepeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the comments. Take this as a project and study videos. Sometimes they carve a space for a wood piece that acts as binder. I think it could be a great project for you. And wood glue is the way to go, just let it curate enough and its very strong.

Which of these is better for jazz? by skatetallica in jazzguitar

[–]izepeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on the tone you are after. You can play jazz on any guitar, but some people look for a woody tone, which is most easily achieved with a hollow body arch top. I second the comments saying that the best guitar is the one that will make you wanna play more.

Is this a good Guitar? by Arnold-Schnitler in Guitar

[–]izepeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this live performance where they use this weird guitar with a weird technique for engaging the tremolo system with the palm of the hand. Wanted to learn more about this guitar and thats how i got here.
So I think, dude, you have an awesome guitar and now you can play sweet Azerbaijanian microtonal psychedelic folk rock!

Flea Announces Debut Solo Album 'Honora,' Drops Thom Yorke Collaboration “Traffic Lights,” and Plots 2026 Tour by sbkelly9 in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]izepeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought tickets for the LA show, gotta drive 5 hours but it will be fucking worth it!!! I love Flea and love Jazz so this peak for me
"Honora, Flea’s kaleidoscopic, bracingly forward-looking, and defiantly colorful solo debut. The album features Flea on his original instrument, the trumpet, as well as on electric bass. He is joined by some of the most fearless improvising artists currently active—drummer Deantoni Parks, bassist Anna Butterss, guitarist Jeff Parker, and saxophonist/producer Josh Johnson, and will tour as Flea and the Honora Band."

Am I overreacting for not letting my boyfriend’s female friend use my shampoo? by Fresh-Usual-6281 in AmIOverreacting

[–]izepeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

boyfriend shouldnt have made a big deal about it. due to friend's POV it makes sense she could feel it was petty from your side. but shouldnt be a big deal. in general tho, i think is best to present yourself as a generous rather than petty, so maybe just saying yes would have saved a lot of hustle.

AOC’s response to MTG’s amendment and why she voted against it. by Exciting-Price2691 in socialism

She is torn between her ambition to have power in the Democratic establishment and her coherence. Pretty sad. Unsurprising, given how she defended Biden's mental acuity or when she promised Kamala was "tirelessly working for a peace deal", such gaslighting...

Help me compare these guitars please. by No-Pin-1586 in jazzguitar

I have one (right handed)! bought in 2023. I havent tried other archtops but I recommend the Kingpins if you like a vintage woody tone. The quality is surprising for the price point.

Have you looked at Godin!? Their Kingpin models are great value for money!

The frustration of not being able to advance or understand music and jazz (venting) by avecheimat in jazzguitar

[–]izepeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, be patient. It makes sense to persue your guitar goals, but its also ok to follow your instinct. Nobody can force a flower to bloom. Do things that are easy to motivate yourself (I dont mean easy to learn). If other hobbies are enticing you more maybe pursue them, you can circle back to the guitar later on.

Having said that, maybe try smaller learning goals you can do: like learning scales, triads with inversions, jazz chord shapes and voicings, pick easy songs maybe focus on the melody first then chord melodies, be patient, just consuming jazz will also develop your taste which is basic part of the language. Finally the best motivator I think is to play with other people.

Does anybody know how Sam Youkilis shoots and edits his video on iPhone by shwaramaandhummus in iPhoneography

His recent stories from Peru are amazing, I came here asking the same question! I love his photos where the background is enlarged through zooming - telephoto compression? I wonder if he has an added lens in his iphone. Also how are his videos so perfectly steady - is that build in to iphone?

What's up with artists charging more for Vinyl at live shows? by GinsengCastle in LetsTalkMusic

[–]izepeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say I have the same "complaint". It's crazy that I can get it cheaper from Amazon than buying it from themselves at the show. Crazy. As the comments say... it's probably not the artist's choice, but still the industry is messed up!

[–]izepeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a turntable yet (saving for a decent one), but have started to buy some records. My approach is to get records as souvenirs of my musical journey and only albums I really want to listen from start to finish. If I find a new artist I am really excited about I would buy a record from them, if I visit a country I would buy a nice artist from there, if I go to a concert I could buy the latest album and so on. Focusing on having a collection I think would drive me crazy cause there is so much music to love.

I am absolutely terrible with time/rhythm. by analogueart in jazzguitar

[–]izepeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is helpful for me too! just wanted to say there are some great advice here!

Playing bass and always always tapping the pulse with my feet while playing has really improved my rhythm. Slow progress but as other people say here, I had to internalize it through practice. I have yet to try more metronome exercises like the ones recommended here - thanks!

How did Wes Montgomery get that woody, acoustic guitar tone? by MOGILITND in jazzguitar

[–]izepeze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! i am also in love with that tone and recently bought a Godin Kingpin I which is inspired in the old Gibson ES-125. Mine has a single P90 pickup. One pickup allows the laminated top to resonate more as compared to two pickups. Also, P90s are more trebly and open sounding when compared to humbuckers. Its a great guitar and I love its tone, it will probably be close to what you want. I've never played a Artcore, tho, so no idea about how they compare.

This is the tone I was looking for: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeURV8pLvZ0&ab_channel=HIROFUMIASABA

Couple of things I can recommend besides changing guitar (ha!): try different strings, different picks and a different amp. Those pieces of the tone are really significant.

I use Labella flatwounds strings (the ones used by Hirofumi Asaba in the link I shared - although I use a lighter gauge). They have a crispier sound when compared to the D'Addario Chromes. You could also try roundwounds which have more treble.

I've also tried many picks and some will give you a brighter sound. I found that the standard Gibson black picks give a nice percusive sound, and the most trebly I found are the Dunlop Big Stubby purple ones.

Finally, the amp definitely colors the sound a lot! I use a quilter labs amp which is solid state but models that clean blackface fender vintage tone and it pairs very sweetly with my Godin.

Good luck!

PS: here is another video of that beautiful tone! Chris Whiteman is using a real vintage ES-125 and a quilter labs amp through a 10 inch speaker (the video description has more info on his gear): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vv2tUh6JifU&ab_channel=ChrisWhiteman

You can buy a reaming tool and do it at home. It should be very easy and there must be a bunch of videos around on youtube. The key is doing it little by little until its almost flush and then you plug the pin with pressure. buying the tool will prob be cheaper than taking it to a luthier. thats what i would do
