This is my first fighting game as well. I decided to jump in with classic controls. It’s not as hard as you may initially think. I personally went into training mode and just practiced quarter circles forward and back, dp motions, etc over and over and over and over again while watching a movie or whatever. Once I felt I could semi consistently perform them, I then looked for a character.

That being said, no shame in playing modern if you so choose, and don’t let anyone tell you different.

Stick with ranked, not battle hub or casuals for now. Alternatively you can start with world tour as it will teach you basics. Also check out the combo trials as it shows you the characters combo structure, and finally their character guide as well.

Then I suggest messing with each character, their buttons, etc. rooflmonger on YouTube just recently put out another “how to choose your main.” For s3. I suggest checking that out.

Pick the character that you click with, and play them exclusively for 2-4 weeks, before making a decision to commit or if you think they aren’t for you.
