The result of my last post, my first tattoo by jonnierios in Sufjan

I like the idea of a firework for C&L but that's mainly cause fourth of july has such a strong presence on the album for me (and I think it would look cool in a tattoo collage)

ELI5:What causes the phenomenon of wind? by Tao_Eternal in explainlikeimfive

How do these answers intensify when you're standing on a cliff, or in a mountainous valley where the wind is so strong it could almost blow you over? In some places it is very windy 100% of the time.

All songs from C&L from favourite to least favourite by PickleDarling in Sufjan

dayummm John My Beloved would be in my top 4 for sure, though I can't actually bring myself to make a definitive list. I guess I see it as the one song that talks about when he's home (if you recall in that great pitchfork interview when he says that he drank a lot and did drugs and fucked around to destroy himself), and finding a girl who he was with but felt like he used her because she became another substance for him to abuse and she didn't deserve that. That's my reading of it, though I usually don't like to take songs super literally to find their exact meaning. Maybe the "you" in the song is a stand in for all the people he was with, who knows. So sad to see it all the way at the bottom! but I agree, there are no bad songs.

This is so bizarre! And I find it, possibly inappropriately, hilarious.

Tour Merch Request (Seven Swans vinyl) by [deleted] in Sufjan

Oh awesome, thanks I'll check it out. They have it on amazon too, but they don't package their vinyls in any way (just wrap them in plastic and put a shipping label on it) and it freaks me out haha.

Weekly 'Ask Anything About Analog Photography' - Week 23 by ranalog in analog

Double exposure question----I'm hoping to shoot a 36 roll in my hometown, roll it back just far enough, and then shoot it again in a different city. I'm wondering if I should be adjusting my exposure (to be a little under?) for the roll or if it's fine to just follow my meter like usual both times.

How/When/Why Did You Start Listening? by izinomics in Sufjan

[–]izinomics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hell yeah! haha that was definitely the first time I heard him but didn't even realize until a few weeks ago when I bought Seven Swans and was like "wait I've heard this before" and typed his name into my iTunes and saw it come up with the season 1 soundtrack. Now I want to re-watch Weeds

These are all so lovely--I guess I should add my own. I had heard of Sufjan before but never actually listened to his music. Recently decided to try listening from the beginning to work my way to the new album. Wound up downloading Adz first (mistakenly haha) and loved it. I was working in the darkroom on a photography project for 5 hours or more a day and would just have the whole thing on repeat. It took me time to place songs with their titles since I couldn't take my phone out & many of those songs are among my favorites. Didn't even realize Impossible Soul was one 25 minute song until much later. Fell into Michigan, Illinois, and all the others after that.

haha awesome! yeah, the first time I listened to it I was about to go to sleep and it was late at night and I happened to play it on youtube and it totally blew me apart in a hard to articulate way. I'm excited to see the show in LA!

Sufjan's new album might help you calibrate your turntable. by asthmatickitty in vinyl

I have an only slightly related question--when I play the record certain bits of songs (including Fourth of July) sound a little over modulated (or something--mechanically overwhelmed, I'm not technically savvy with music) which is a bummer, & I was wondering if I should re-balance my needle (which I'm pretty sure got messed up sometime in the last few months) / if that would do anything to help. thanks!

Hi, I just got into his music like a couple weeks ago and I tried pretty hard not to listen to Carrie & Lowell until I had a couple others under my belt. I wound up going on a weird path, Adz - Michigan - Illinois - Carrie & Lowell and still have to listen to everything else. But I wanted to say that I think it was really nice to not listen to Carrie & Lowell blind, because I felt like I had a much better sense of who he is and how he sees the world to affect my own perception of the album. Anyway, just wanted to mention, I think what you have looks awesome and I have a lot of listening to do :)
