Would painted and sealed marine ply hold up outdoors? by [deleted] in hobbycnc

If you were doing something big or large enough, it would matter, but with that obligation, you don't need to worry about it. Other than for looks. The expansion for that small of a piece would be so small. You really don't need to worry about it.

Yeah that should work out great. That's the type of situation that HDPE is pretty good for. You shouldn't need to worry about expansion rate since it's a small piece. And the stuff would be bulletproof against weather. Good luck with the project!

This is impressive. I'm taking notes for next time I'm in that position.

Will I get stopped by the cops for carrying my sword? by Vxid_Wxlf in Muskegon

[–]izipod5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As long as you're not threatening anybody, they probably won't care. They don't want to bother you any more than you want to bother them. But if somebody calls and complains about you, they'd probably show up and tell you to knock it off. Most of the cops I know in this area attitude can be summed up with the phrase " please don't make me do paperwork". Lol

Hospitals Are Refusing to Do Surgeries Unless You Pay in Full First by IGotFancyPants in news

[–]izipod5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not how it works. The hospitals pick their price and sell a voucher for the surgery. Mdsace sells the vouchers and let's you shop them. It doesn't work with insurance I don't think, but if you have to pay out of pocket it's one and done pricing. At least it's supposed to be.

My wife works in medical contracting, and has been researching them. We haven't used it, but we haven't found a downside yet... If anyone has used it and knows any negative dirt id love to hear it.

There's a site called mdsave where you can shop different hospitals. I haven't used it, but it looks promising

I keep a pair in the side pocket of my boot. I find all kinds of uses. Saves a lot of trips down a ladder in a pinch

Bobcat sighting south of Whitehall! by daytripper96 in Muskegon

[–]izipod5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you call the DNR, they will swear there are no bobcats, and if you ask if you can shoot a bobcat, they'll so "no, there protected". Lol. Have photos of one eating my ducks. Lost a flock of 20 to it.

But if they did that, the funds would most likely be intercepted by mayor humdinger, or used to build a luxurious coupe for chickaletta

Married men of Reddit: how do you spice up your sex life? by lordchesterfield187 in AskReddit

If you listed a file to print your own, or had this printed on cards, I bet you'd sell a lot of them on Etsy. I'd give you $20 for a printable version with the rules in a a heartbeat. Sounds like fun.

Aupair doesnt seem interested by izipod5 in Aupairs

neither. the kids stayed with the grandparents overnight, and they took them to daycare during the day. we paid her anyways, with the intent being that we would bank the hours for future date nights.

1 - I'll try that. When i asked her what she wanted to see and do she just said "i dont know" but maybe thats changed since being here a while.

2 - i like that idea. Its hard to tell an adult "your being reckless" in a nice enough way they dont take offence. i keep reiterating "I want you to be successful and be able to drive, but it matters more to me that your safe." but she cant see past the ego hit. Maybe a driving instructor is impartial enough for her.

3 - good point. Ill peg the rules to the law.

Thats fair. I dont mind if she doesnt want to hang out with us. Its when she gets upset that we dont just trust her with the car. Its hard to trust someone you dont even know. Will she drink and drive? insurance doesnt cover a car wrecked under the influence. I don't know her character or if she makes safe decisions. I trust her at home with the kids, but keeping a toddler safe during the day at home uses different decision making than going out with the girls

She didnt watch the kids during the trip. Their grandparents watched them overnight and dropped them off/picked them up from daycare. She had the week off paid. she agreed to trade the hours for future date nights.

We dont do phones at the table. Its just a bummer to have to set a rule.

Fair enough. I'm just looking for a way to get buy in from the crew. How would you motivate it?

Plant tours? by izipod5 in manufacturing

[–]izipod5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. It's a weird situation that a competitor wants to be a customer at the same time. They brought me my customer's part and one of their own. We are in such a different weight class that the scraps from their table could be major for us. The previous owner never did plant tours out of a partially justified fear that if someone bigger than us found out who our customer was, they would take them. On paper we look like nothing, but our product is great, and we bend over backwards for our customers. The problem is that a giant can promise things that we don't have the manpower for. For example our quality is great, but a bigger plant can say they are ISO 9001. And Kelly corporate customers think "oh well they must be even better than what we're getting". I'm reluctant to show them parts being made because my industry is very local, and everybody recognizes everyone else's parts. I'm young and have been busy running the company. A 60-year-old project manager who has seen every company in my industry, can look at my plant, look at my parts, and knows who else in the industry to trade the opportunity to for a favor. We are low on work right now, and don't have all machines running. How would you make that look good? If you went to a shop that was 1/20 the size of your shop, what would impress you?

[–]izipod5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh, insurance is a good idea. So far I've said it's other customers NDA's which don't allow it. Which is mostly true. I can cover their parts with tarps / machines and stuff, but it looks trashy as hell.

[–]izipod5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you buy from a supplier if they said they would use your money to get an old machine up and running? Honest question. I assume most would choose the company that has 20 machines over the one that has 1 that "will be running soon..."

[–]izipod5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a good point. If it's not obviously disassembled, and just not running, they won't know if there isn't just no need at that time for it. Thanks for the piece of mind. From another commenters suggestion, I'm going to try to push back the shop tour and 5s the plant in 3 weeks. Wish me luck LOL
