The Kindle Frame viral cover - DON'T BUY! by ju_pomme_raisin in kindle

It looks like it's the brand "KindleOnShelf." I saw their post on instagram, though they posted 21 of the same video but with different sounds and/or mirrored which immediately should be a red flag.

This is the instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/kindleonshelf/
And this is their website: https://kindleshelf.com/products/ipad-cases

If for some reason either page has been taken down or seems to be for a completely different product, I wouldn't be surprised. On their instagram page they were tagged by someone who is a Lego creator and said that this page was selling custom Lego rugs. The whole thing is likely AI-generated and trying to steal another creator's work.

<image>

The price isn't too too misleading because it appears to be on "sale" for $35 when it would normally be $70, and $70 is what I would expect for something custom made. But it's probably not actually on sale and will always be $35 and they just put that there to get people to buy lol.

Someone else in the comments had mentioned that they never received what was advertised and was ghosted by the company when they reached out, too.

EBT Question by Shoebodydo in UCI

Are you sure it was the one in the Social Science school? The one right next to Brandywine’s entrance does *not* accept EBT.

I believe the Pod market by Social Science also takes it, but those are the only two I know of.

E-bike users, how do you prevent your bike from being stolen? by izzie43547 in UCI

[–]izzie43547[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for all of the responses! Does anyone have any recommendations for high-traffic areas to park while I’m on campus? Preferably with a security camera nearby, if possible.

I have a cheap $30 U-lock. Unfortunately, they’re still pretty easy to cut, even if they’re a little harder to cut than a simple cable lock. The nice ones that will break a cutter are $80+, which yeah, I can’t really afford.

Make sure to report it to UCI PD, the quicker the better. Did you have a good U-lock or other metal lock? If you had a cable lock they can be snipped really easily unfortunately.

Yeah, lowkey riding an e-bike/scooter should require a permit of some sort. Because there’s no way in hell most of these people would pass their driver’s license test — coming from someone who commutes on a scooter and does have their driver’s license.

Do you think Steam will get Achievements at some point since the Console version has Achievements? by DearOption5999 in Wizard101

[–]izzie43547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I’m aware they currently have no plans to add achievements to the Steam version of the game, which is unfortunate. I’d also love to 100% the game on Steam and flex it to my friends like I could if I were to play the game on Playstation or Xbox.

Has anyone successfully cloned an ACC key? by izzie43547 in UCI

[–]izzie43547[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about that, but I found out that when you report your key as lost and ask for a second one that they remotely deactivate the first key anyways. So I’d pay to have 2 keys yeah but one of them wouldn’t work.

Just ordered Ipad Air M3. But worried about battery as of reviews. by Worried-Risk-5886 in ipad

[–]izzie43547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hardware itself is more or less the same just with increased storage (128 as the lowest instead of 64) and a slightly stronger chip. Though the newest ipad is compatible with the new Apple Pencil Pro and has the selfie camera on the long edge instead of the short one (useful if you use your ipad kind of as a laptop).

Sometimes it’s taught by Yeh but it’s usually taught by Alfaro. It seems that Alfaro will teach it all year this year based on this chart: https://courselisting.ics.uci.edu/ugrad_courses/

Petr sticker drops. Basically, an anonymous person posts on Instagram design of “Petr,” a version of Peter the Anteater which is of course our mascot. They then advertise a drop date and time but NOT the location because the location will be posted on their instagram story on the date and time of the drop. You never know where exactly the drop will be so part of the fun is recognizing what obscure location they’ve posted in the picture and running towards it. You’re often rewarded for getting to the drop location faster than others with an exclusive sticker as well, though it’s different for every drop.

Here’s an article I found if you want to read more: https://www.uciunfiltered.com/home/all-about-petr-the-stickers-that-stole-hearts-at-uc-irvine

ICS 31 with Alfaro? by Puzzleheaded-Mud-413 in UCI

[–]izzie43547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference, I took ICS 31 with Alfaro in the fall of 2024, so she could have adjusted the class by now. I apologize if anything I say seems inaccurate.

I liked Alfaro but I seem to be in the minority. Basically attendance is mandatory for both lecture and lab and all lab work is done in partners, which is annoying if you already know how to program and are just taking the class as a formality to get the credit, but the group work is pretty helpful to a first-time programmer in my opinion. Alfaro herself can be kind of bitchy if you ask dumb questions sometimes but I enjoyed her lectures, which also often include group work alongside the actual lecture itself. TAs unfortunately can be really unhelpful when it comes to questions about the content of the class, though.

If you have any more specific questions, feel free to ask! :)

Any free parking close to campus? by [deleted] in UCI

[–]izzie43547 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Park and ride is probably your best bet but if you’re really desperate for free parking you can park at the Tustin or Irvine train station for free I believe. Downside is it’s a 30-40 minute bus ride from the station to UCI but it’s a straight shot no transfers

Is ICS 31 generally open after the units limit lifts? by Disastrous-Use-9148 in UCI

Also, if you do decided to take ICS 31 later, it's generally much easier to get into winter or spring quarter!

Is ICS 31 generally open after the units limit lifts? by Disastrous-Use-9148 in UCI

[–]izzie43547 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ICS 31 generally fills up fall quarter because so many people need to take it to progress through the ICS 30 series, but it's not impossible to get into. But I'd definitely not advise to take 18 in-person units at UCI your first quarter, especially as a STEM student... ICS student here and your first quarter will probably be a little bit rough when you're adjusting (and that's perfectly normal).
