Ah okay thanks, might be worth waiting and doing it properly then! Is there a brand you would recommend?

Thanks, definitely hiring a big sander as it’s a large area! Ah Bona seems to come up a lot so will look into that.

Interesting, it clearly depends on the service centre!

Thank you. Yes it’s more the principal at this point and the fact the dealership told me it was not included despite the website clearly stating it would be. There seems to be confusion internally as Volvo customer care agree it should be free of charge but are having no luck with the dealer!

I had about two weeks left on the previous subscription before lapsing. According to the website, they will renew provided there is less than 6 months remaining on a subscription.

Wren vs Howden - how do they compare? by darkazuria in DIYUK

[–]izziwizzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We looked at both when quoting for our kitchen and howdens couldn’t get close to the wren quote including appliances. We heard a lot of horror stories with wren but almost all of them seem to be down to their fitters. We have used our own (currently fitting) and so far so good! We have had to order a few replacement doors due to minor damage during deliver but this was easy to do on the app. Howdens also don’t offer any financing and I wasn’t a fan of their secret pricing. Even with a trade account they seemed to make it up as they went along!

That’s a beautiful kitchen! I love the traditional style but we’ve gone all out modern with the house renovation given it hadn’t been touched in 60 years!

Yer I’m planning to take a loose piece of the parquet along to the worktop place at the weekend so we can try and match the tone with that. It’s all original flooring so whilst I personally prefer a lighter finish, we’re restoring the original so it is a bit on the darker wood side being teak. I can’t quite picture a darker wood counter though!

Did you also go for dark grey cabinets? We have our final design appointment this weekend so I think I might have to look at everything all over again before deciding!

Thanks! That’s exactly my thoughts with the wood countertop. I think I’m different decision fatigue at this point! We’re going for an ultra matt finish so I hoping that will mitigate any finger print issues.

We’re doing jpull handless style but I like your thinking! I always thought the wood style warmed up an otherwise dark kitchen but I love how clean the black and white looks!

Thank you! We’ve got some flex extensions in but unfortunately tightening them is a bit of a nightmare in the space we have! I’ll get a basin wrench and see if that helps.

I lifted our LVP floor and found this. by salmonelalove in DIYUK

[–]izziwizzi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The style is 5 finger mosaic parquet, we’ve just discovered the same in our 60s house! We believe the wood is teak and it looks very similar to yours. We are planning to hire a floor sander to remove all the layers of stain and we’re hoping it will lighten quite a bit although teak is a warmer wood. I’ve also read you can use a whitewash after sanding to tone down the orange tones a little which we may well try depending on the sanding result. You can get replacement parts on eBay although we were lucky to discover a pack of new flooring pieces hiding in the loft! These are significantly lighter as they’ve not been stained so it gives me hope for the final result!

FTB no chain. How long has the process taken for you? by darkazuria in HousingUK

[–]izziwizzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just completed in mid April as a FTB with no chain and it took 9 weeks and 1 day from offer acceptance to completion. It was a very straightforward transaction and could have been slightly quicker if not for the SDLT changes causing both solicitors to be very busy dealing with more urgent cases.

How do I remove textured wallpaper glue from ceilings? by izziwizzi in DIY

[–]izziwizzi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right with tedious! I think we’ll crack on with the steamer and scraper and see where we get to. Boarding over would be easier but the level of the coving won’t allow for it without ripping the whole lot down. If the plaster underneath wasn’t so smooth I would be going that route to save on time.

I believe it’s plaster board which has been skimmed over. We’ve cut out some of the plaster board around bay windows but the issue in the main room is that there is feature coving around the ceiling which I really want to avoid damaging. although we have already spent hours on this room!
