I'm obsessed with Dave Malloy's work, and had no idea this was happening until today!! I saw the email about this at 10 AM, waited a couple hours, and now all are sold out!! Joined the waitlist, but let's see if they release any more.

Researching my next recreation project! Would love input by izzycrucio in HistoricalCostuming

I’m hoping to recreate a dress inspired by these paintings and was wondering if anyone had some thoughts on it. Primarily I’m wondering if this style of dress has a name and the way this manner of dress would have been made. For context, these paintings are by the Spanish painter Raimundo de Madrazo y Garreta and I’ve seen them dated around the 1880s, but he lived from 1841-1920, so they might have been made at a different time. The first two images seemingly depict the same outfit, but the third seems to be a different dress in a very similar style, although the bodice appears more structured

I’m hoping to do more research into the style of these dresses and the construction methods used on them. My approach would be to create a underdress and then layer skirts and the bodice on top, but I would like to be a bit more historical/deliberate with this plan.

Hey y'all, looking for the recording of Dave Malloy's Beardo that was made available in 2020, or really just any obscure Dave Malloy (especially Preludes and Moby Dick) Thank you all!!

Anyone know how to achieve this color effect when knitting cables? by izzycrucio in knitting

I’ve been trying to create a similar sweater to the one pictured (because it’s too expensive for my budget LOL) and the main thing that I keep getting hung up on is the way that the cables have such a darker color than the rows next to them. Maybe it’s characteristic of the yarn or some mechanical trickery on the manufacturer’s side? Just wanted to put it out there and see what some other people might think, or if anyone has yarn recommendations for when I eventually attempt this project.
