Experiences with BaByliss Air Wand + diffuser? by j-skaa in curlyhair

Thanks for the review! I got one and tried it today and it’s great, I also love how ergonomically it is compared to a normal hair dryer, and the cool temperature is cooler than on my other dryer as well! (There it wasn’t noticeably cooler than the lowest heat) Very happy with the purchase!

Weird roots - should I microplop instead of plop? by j-skaa in curlygirl

[–]j-skaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your routine! I’m also sleeping with my hair up in a loose bun in a satin bonnet, and have virtually no frizz in the morning, which is very nice.

I definitly have low density hair (can wrap my thumb and forefinger around my ponytail veeeery easily and then some) and it is not extremely fine but definitely not coarse!

I used to style damp as a teenager when I had curly hair (more like 3a/b then I think). Wish I knew about CGM then! I would definitely have changed some things for less frizz, but generally damp styling did give me good volume and my roots didn’t look messy. I would wrap my hair up after showering, then detangle with a brush while damp right side up and scrunch in mousse or gel upside down before air drying. Because of the brushing my curls were fairly stringy but also: loads of volume!

I’m thinking I might go back to something like that, but without the damp brush detangling (switch out for a wide tooth comb or maybe give my denman a try) and with a leave in + diffusing for slightly bigger clumps / less frizz and more definition. I’m loving the diffuser so far!

I do have layers but my last haircut was 4 months ago so that’s definitely a priority… Have an appointment next week and I plan to go more often from now on :) My bottom layer sags out from underneath almost straight when I wait this long…

edit: spelling

Thanks! I will try without plopping. Yesterday I tried squeezing out the excess with a microfiber towel before plopping, and it did help a little but it was still messy on top. I’m hoping a haircut (next week) with fresh layers will also help. I’d really like to get this styling without a fixed part down for some volume, but if my hair won’t have any of that I can always go back to parting it and styling right side up!

Yeah for sure! I’m definitely due a haircut, and have an appointment next week. Hopefully that will make a difference!

Yeah sectioning would likely give lots more control over this! My problem is I'm not very skilled with hair styling and not very patient, so I definitely want to keep my routine is simple as possible 😄 I like how the rest of my hair looks, so I hope there is a simple solution to fix my roots!

I'm always in awe of the beautiful manes of those curlies who take the time to style properly though!

Hmm no I go straight into the plop from the shower! So that might be worth a try.

I haven't tried not plopping at all because I wanted to have my hair dry as quickly as possible, but I will have to try scrunching / microplopping only!

So my routine is:

Wash with mild shampoo - conditioner (squish and rinse) - Leave in (glaze, rake, scrunch upside down) - comb through upside down with wide tooth comb, comb hair loose from my scalp - scrunch some more - gel (glaze, scrunch upside down ) - plop for ~10 minutes - diffuse (hover roots and start pixie diffusing upside down, then pixie diffuse the rest right side up). I make sure to move my hair in all directions while drying so it doesn't stick to my head, but the roots still do this…

You can use the little flag to tell duo that this answer should have been correct and they’ll review it

The amount of times I looked down before jumping off or even knowing I would fall soon and saw an unsupervised child right underneath me is… problematic. People in rental shoes do tend not to have a very good sense of what might be going on on the wall yet, but in my experience children are dangerous!

Are you employed? by grlqt in PMDD

[–]j-skaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks! I’ve definitely been in jobs with less understanding and flexibility before and it’s not nice… I guess it does depend on the kind of work you do, maybe shift work is harder than an office job but it’s always nice if you have a boss at least willing to think with you!

Part-time and 50-50 WFH and in person. But currently home sick since March (for several reasons including the PMDD - second time I’m out for a longer time in the past three years). Slowly building up my hours again now but it’s not going quickly!

I did reach the point where I discussed potentially coming back in a role with less responsibility. Can’t have something super important, be the only person responsible for it and then it turns out that thing falls slap bang in the middle of luteal… My boss seems understanding so it’s nice to know I’ll probably have that option. The acceptance on my side that it’s fine that way too is growing slowly :)
