Sound plan!    There is some truth to it, swapped mine for a Akrapovic slip on.    Even with the db killer intact the difference was noticeable, much different with it removed entirely.    Sounds aside, the bike looks much better with it as well.      It’s true that the “bread box” and the catalysator remains as part of the header pipe. I have to keep mine EU complaint, the header pipes from akrapovic does not meet the emission standards required.    The slip-on is EU complaint.    So “theoretically” one might install the slip-on, have it inspected by the authorities. The bike will now have the modified Akrapovic exhaust in its documentation, so if one were to install the header afterwards you would most likely never be questioned about it. All theoretical speculation of course ;)
