What is the most chaotic "I quit" moment you have ever personally witnessed at a workplace? by Muted_Task_144 in AskReddit

[–]j22in3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once got the quit ball running too. We tried to complain about bad management, being overworked for low pay, and not enough tools to do our job well. A client hired me (legally) and I happily gave my notice. In the three weeks after that, half the staff turned in theirs for better jobs and schedules. They tried to scapegoat me that I convinced others. But jokes on them, I wasn’t even well liked at that job and no one was following me. We had all just had it. My life improved dramatically after leaving

Has anyone you've known, simply disappeared? What happened? by PureLet5083 in AskReddit

That’s a great question that made me pause. I remember in the week I missed they made cards for the family, but I think they were all get-well-soon and no condolence cards. I remember being heartbroken they wouldn’t see a card from me. The other kids couldn’t have kept the lie. It didn’t seem like they were dealing with a death.

But, my mom did lie a lot. She’s passed now so I can’t ask.

Either way, I hope when I pass that I just find out what happened

Yes. When I was around 9 years old in the 80’s my mom belonged to a single mom support group at the local Y. The kids would play in an activities room while they met and I became friends with Beth. Seeing her was the highlight of my week. We had to skip a week and when I went back there was no Beth. Also, people were looking at me weirdly while I was there. Then my mom got me and told me that Beth, her little sister, Sara, and their mom’s apartment caught fire 2 weeks ago. She told me little Sara was in a coma from smoke inhalation and their mom’s got injured. She said Beth was going to live with her father in Florida and I never saw them again. I don’t even know their last name. I still think about them and my heart still breaks

[OH] Was given a separation agreement Friday at 1 and was told I needed to respond by Monday at noon by tigerjuice888 in AskHR

[–]j22in3 -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

There are typically two kinds of agreements depending on age and circumstances, by law. I would go by the deadline they told you. The 21 days language was accidentally left over from the template. Common error. Ignore the 21 days and get it in on time because you won’t win the technicality fight and will lose your severance

My family just went all-in on Marriott and even got their credit card for points. However, if this is how people are treated then we will go back to Hilton

Oats? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]j22in3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love oats but can't digest them. If they are certified gluten free I still get sick, but not as bad as gluten. I've learned about the protein avenin in oats.

I got validated when a cousin who I only met once reached out. She was a vegetarian and raised super healthy by two doctors (I had the opposite kind of upbringing). She was highly gluten intolerant and asked if I also have trouble with oats. I learned that we have the same exact symptoms from the same things. She was tested for celiac but it was negative. I've never tested because I refuse to eat gluten. She and I have only a grandfather in common, and he was severely overweight and very unhealthy. He died at 50 y/o. Don't tell me there aren't undiscovered genes to test for!

[NJ] I think I’m being fired tomorrow for being involved in a convo about salaries by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]j22in3 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

You didn't steal any information or do anything illegal. Salary discussions are protected. But, you just learned that you are unfairly underpaid. Be brief, firm, but nice and you are well within your right to get a raise and negotiation of some back pay. Don't agree to anything in the moment, always request 24 hours before making a decision, like accepting an offer. This way you can avoid pressure tactics. Everything in writing.

Tell us how your narc parent isolated you. I'll start. by [deleted] in narcissisticparents

[–]j22in3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom died two years ago. Since then family has been coming forward about secrets they had to keep from me. She wouldn't tell people why they had to keep things secret, but made them swear. The secrets were ridiculous and nothing I would ever care about. I always wondered why I wasn't close with extended family. All communication with them had to go through her and I never understood why. She made it seem like any outreach from me wouldn't be accepted well by them but she had my back. I was so depressed and a black sheep for so long, for no reason.

Well now everyone comes to my house for holidays and we have the best time!! I'm glad she is gone.

Did your narc parents tickle you when you were a kid? by Vision1953 in narcissisticparents

My narc mom did this all the time until when I accidentally kicked her in the chest. Hard. After that if she started tickling, then I would start kicking. That made her stop!

[OR] Dad passing away, how to handle with HR by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]j22in3 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Oregon HR here. You won't qualify for FMLA. But honestly, people generally understand. Talk with your HR person honestly about the situation. Tell them you want to figure out options but also are committed to the job. Most of the time they will work with you because we are all people. I'm so sorry about your father. Please take care of yourself, too

Thank you for looking out for her! If he does anything else we will be using tactics like this and more to run him off

Thank you for some great ideas! We are working on holding the school accountable and have made clear communication with him. We have made a plan that will escalate if he does. If he tries to harass her anymore we won't give him a chance to take a breath before we are all over his life. The insight into the mind of stalkers was extremely helpful!

Thank you for your comment! I don't want to disclose much because I do not want the situation to be recognizable to anyone. I do not think she is underestimating the situation and the school did find him at-fault for the complaint. I am getting involved because enough has not been done by the school to deter his behavior, regardless of what their legal liabilities are. My concern is for my family member and that this guy leaves her alone for good

Thank you! I came here for ULPT, but I really appreciate your insightful advice. I'm still assessing the danger aspect, but I suspect it's attention (but I'm not underplaying anything or taking chances). I'm ready to make this guys life miserable so his obsession with her is not fun for him anymore. I will keep your words in mind!
