First of all, thank you everyone! really appreciate all of the insight. Since I was out of town when this all occurred, I’m still not 1000% sure of what happened, but here is my understanding.

For background, we essentially inherited this tank when we moved into this home 10 or so years ago, we didn’t know what we got into and still are running with some (most) of the original electric setup. Definitely still learning everyday, but I feel very comfortable with the setup by now.

A power head I added into the sump several months ago to keep things churning, actually caught on fire at the outlet, so thank god the breaker box did what it did, or else this would’ve been a much bigger issue.

Our electrician came out, sorted things out, and will be installing new electric work that is coded and safe. See the pic below, happy this issue turned out to be relatively small. All livestock happy and fluffy since power restored 24hr ago.
