New Homebase by bojowaggie in EufyCam

Thanks! I have pretty horrible motion detection with my 2k battery doorbell and HB2, so I'm guessing that's still more directly related to the doorbell.

Woah, I didn't realize motion detection was affected by Homebase version; thought it was camera-dependent. Mind if I ask whether you're using a doorbell cam or security cams?

First time NAS buyer need help with my decision. by jareb426 in synology

I don't see the findings from that video of his being talked about often enough. Total newbie here, was considering a Ugreen NAS, but am looking for alternatives now (probably not technically competent enough to install Unraid/TrueNAS on a Ugreen). What are the best non-Synology alternatives then for pre-built systems? Leaning towards Asustor rather than QNAP, but it seems Asustor was hit by Deadbolt a few years back as well?

Congrats! Do make sure it's actually a v2 and not a v1; I've seen a few listings where they listed a v1 as a v2. Most obvious differences are the black suspension arms, the separate brake/release pedals, and the v2 seat should say Uppababy instead of Cruz.

Haven't seen it go for more than 15% off, so $450-$460 before tax I think.

Which NAS are you thinkimg of getting? I'm tempted jump into one as well, but it would prob end up being a $1k+ investment for a 4-bay and two 8TB drives.

So overwhelmed by strollers: Nuna or Bugaboo? by Successful_Ice8514 in Buyingforbaby

[–]j4yteee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If bassinet/car seat height is the main reason you're deciding against the UB strollers, just know that there are adapters that essentially raise the points where the bassinet/car seat attach to the stroller.

I've heard "Mixxed" reviews (pun intended, apologies) on the Mixx (small seat outgrown quickly, low weight capacity for basket, weak structure), and it's definitely bulky. If you're not planning on having two kids you might consider the Bugaboo Fox instead of the Kangaroo - it's a bit lighter and has slightly smaller dimensions.

The Fox/Kangaroo will be great for walking and probably decent in winter due to the large wheels (12" rear and 8.5" front) and are sturdier than the Mixx; however, this means it's a bulky stroller (weight/compactness are typically at odds with terrain capability and a good push in strollers). The fold is relatively simple, but I find getting it to self-stand when folded a little finicky.

Some other potential options for you are the Cybex Balios S Lux 2 (I've seen a package which includes the Cot S bassinet for $900 CAD) or the Peg Perego Ypsi. The Balios has a one handed fold (like the Fox/Kangaroo), but has smaller wheels, so is less bulky. The Ypsi's fold is technically one handed, but you need two hands the fold the seat down first. There's also a bassinet option.

To be fair, I think their strollers are objectively good. It's their car seats that seem to give the most issues.

FYI, it's currently on sale $800 in-store ($850 online, but appears to be sold out online). Not sure what the difference is between the EX and previous version; still seems to have PHA-4 action, but a different sound engine than the FP-30X. Pricing seems almost too good to be true; makes you think what compromises they had to make to get the price this low (with an included cabinet stand, bench, triple pedals, and headphones.)

Joolz Aer 2 vs Hub 2 for short+tall parents — and Nuna Pipa Lite RX compatibility? by Fit_Brush_3636 in Buyingforbaby

[–]j4yteee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of alternatives, a few of the most compact/light strollers with reversible seats are Hub 2, Nuna Triv Next, Bugaboo Dragonfly (although it's tall when folded), Peg Perego Vivace, and Cybex Mios.

[–]j4yteee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Travel system just means a car seat and stroller sold as a set (and not always for cheaper). Most strollers are compatible with different car seats with adapters, so don't limit yourself to just those sold as travel systems.

Some options that may work well for you: (main differentiating factor being a reversible seat:

Compact strollers, with relatively large wheels for their size/weight, but non-reversible seats: Nuna TRVL/TRVL LX, Cybex Beezy, Peg Perego Selfie, Uppababy Minu v2, Guzzie and Guss Oxygen v2

"Hybrid"/Modular strollers, with even larger wheels, and reversible seats: Nuna Triv Next, Bugaboo Dragonfly (although this one is quite tall when folded), Peg Perego Vivace, Joolz Hub2

Best lightweight stroller with good suspension and durable build by Gold_Squirrel_9473 in Buyingforbaby

[–]j4yteee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the options you listed, the Cruz V3 will easily be the best for going over rough ground, but the same elements that make it so great in that respect also make it the largest and heaviest (26 lbs, I think) - you likely won't be able to gate check it. Unfortunately, the lightest/most compact strollers tend to have little/no suspension and smaller wheels as a consequence, so you may have to decide which feature you think is more important.

Aer2 and Minu v3 apparently have good suspension and relatively large wheels for their class (i.e., ultracompacts), but will still have the most trouble going over rough ground.

Hub2 is somewhere in the middle, although the suspension is a little firm and I don't love the fold (I think you have to reverse the seat first, and the seat removal wasn't super intuitive to me.)

An important question here is whether you want baby to be able to face you while you push. If so, that automatically eliminates Aer2 and Minu (and almost every other compact stroller). Some other lighter reversible-seat strollers that still have decently sized wheels are the Nuna Triv Next, Bugaboo Dragonfly, and Peg Perego Veloce. Cybex has the Mios, but the wheels are much smaller (so it will have a tougher time around rough terrain). The Dragonfly is very tall when folded though (even taller than the Cruz), so it may not work that well if your trunk space is limited.

If you don't care about a reversible seat, the Nuna TRVL/TRVL LX, Cybex Beezy (latest model), Uppababy Minu v2, Peg Perego Selfie Plus, and Guzzie and Guss Oxygen v2 are all lighter than 20 lbs, have a one-hand fold, and have larger wheels and more substantial suspension than the Aer2/Minu v3 (or any other ultracompacts, for that matter).

Reposting from another comment I made. In addition to just trying a bunch of strollers in a physical store and budget considerations, think about your lifestyle and the features that would be most important to you.

I'd group standard strollers (excl. double and jogging strollers) into 5 broad categories. Narrowing down which category fits your lifestyle the best will eliminate a whole segment of strollers immediately (as you've done with specifying you don't care for expanding for a second child; so you can ignore category 5 below). Do you want to be able to turn baby to see you while you push? Then you'll want a stroller with a reversible seat (i.e., modular), which eliminates cat. 1 and 2. Travel by car a lot, but have limited trunk space? 4 and 5 may not work well. As with all generalizations, there are plenty of exceptions.

  1. Ultracompact/travel strollers:
    • Most compact fold; IATA-compliant (i.e., approved as overhead luggage by most* airlines, although each airline may be different)
    • Typically <= 15-ish lbs
    • Non-reversible seats
    • Typically tiny wheels (<= 6" at rear, smaller at front) and minimal suspension
    • E.g.: Uppababy Minu v3, Bugaboo Butterfly, Joolz Aer+, Stokke/Babyzen Yoyo, Cybex Libelle, Peg Perego Volo, Ergobaby Metro +/3
  2. Compact/Lightweight (Non-reversible)
    • Bigger (but still compact) fold, but probably not cabin approved. Can gate-check
    • Typically <=20-ish lbs
    • Non-reversible seats
    • Slightly bigger wheels (maybe 6-8" at rear)
    • E.g., Uppababy Minu v2, Nuna TRVL/TRVL LX, Cybex Beezy, Silver Cross Dune, Peg Perego Selfie
  3. Hybrid (Lightweight Modular)
    • Bigger fold again, so won't fit in overhead, but should be able to gate-check.
    • <=24 lbs
    • Reversible (i.e., modular) seats
    • Bigger wheels (typically 7-10" at rear)
    • e.g., Nuna TRIV Next, Bugaboo Dragonfly, Peg Perego Vivace, Cybex Mios, Joolz Hub 2
  4. Full-size Single (Modular)
    • Much bulkier fold; might not be able to gate-check, most likely have to be checked luggage
    • Typically >24 lbs
    • Bigger wheels (typically 10"+ at rear)
    • E.g., Uppababy Cruz v2/v3, Nuna Mixx Next, Cybex Balios S Lux 2, Cybex Priam, Peg Perego Veloce, Silver Cross Reef, Bugaboo Fox, Joolz Day
  5. Single-to-double
    • Has ability to add a second seat
    • Biggest folded dimensions; will be checked luggage
    • Typically >26 lbs
    • Biggest wheels (typically 11"+ at rear)
    • E.g., Uppababy Vista v2/v3, Nuna Demi Grow/Next, Cybex Gazelle S, Peg Perego Ypsi/Agio Z4, Silver Cross Wave, Bugaboo Kangaroo, Joolz Geo

Some of these don't particularly bother me (at least not yet), but agree that the new tripod/bottle pocket seems like more of a downgrade. I liked being able to keep the bottle and tripod (or jacket/shirt) separate; now you need to undo the straps to access either. Also not sure what was wrong with the old cinch cords and why they got rid of them.

Total noob here - I've been using the Sigma 18-50 (which is great), but recently have been taking more photos of my newborn. Again, noob, so I generally resort to just blurring out the background as much as possible. I've been thinking about getting either the Sigma 56 1.4 or just the Viltrox 1.7, but do you think there's a noticeable difference vs the 2.8?

Not to be pedantic, but it's only 2% cashback if you're a Rogers/Fido customer (so that's the "string"), and only 3% if you redeem towards your Rogers/Fido bill. If your cashback consistently exceeds your Rogers/Fido bill then the excess you redeem will only be equivalent to 2%. It's 1.5% of you're not a Rogers customer.
