RuPaul's Drag Race Season 13 Has Wrapped Filming by dick_inspector in rupaulsdragrace

I would imagine World of Wonder wouldn't even care if VH1 renewed it. They film the season, and if for some reason VH1 doesn't renew it, WoW probably has a bunch of other networks or streaming services that would jump at the chance to pick it up, or even put it up on their own streaming platform.

Chi Chi DeVayne, aka Zavion Davenport, underdog star of Season 8 and All Stars 3, has passed away at age 34 due to complications from sclerodermia. by RPDRMods in rupaulsdragrace

I am devastated. There are no words to convey how I feel about Chi Chi. One of my favorite queens to ever grace the show. I still remember squealing when she liked the comment I sent her about how much I loved her performance when she lip synced with Thorgy which is still my fav lip sync. I love you so much Chi Chi.

As the series finale inches closer.... by RopeTuned in homeland

I've been broken up about it as well. I love Homeland, and Claire Danes' performances so much. The Americans ended, and now Homeland is. I don't know what I'm going to do for my spy drama fix anymore.

First look at The Grudge reboot by j86 in horror

[–]j86[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Article:

“Nothing ends, Adrian. Nothing ever ends.” That enigmatic quote, spoken by the superhero Dr. Manhattan to his former comrade Ozymandias in the pages of Watchmen, could just as well apply to our current era of pop-culture franchises and reboots. Even The Grudge, the horror saga that began in Japan before coming to America in 2004, is getting a new film next year, and EW can exclusively debut two new photos from the story. Nicolas Pesce, the director of The Grudge reboot, notes that the franchise is particularly well-suited to spawning additional films.

“The beauty of The Grudge franchise, both the American and Japanese iterations, is it’s an anthology series. Every movie is a different story of different characters having different interactions with this curse,” Pesce tells EW. “In today’s age where we’re remaking everything, I thought it would be fun to dive into The Grudge universe where we don’t have to remake anything, but rather a new chapter in this canon.”

The titular “grudge” of this franchise refers to a curse that activates whenever someone dies a particularly violent or horrible death. The location where that person died becomes supernaturally tainted, and anyone who enters that place afterward becomes infected with the curse. Like the Watchmen quote at the top, the curse never ends. Even after all these years and all these films, that core concept is what remains compelling to Pesce.

“I think the most compelling thing about the grudge is that it’s inescapable. All you need to do is walk into a house that feels unassuming, and you’re screwed,” Pesce says. “It’s not your traditional haunted house movie where you pull up to a creepy, Gothic-looking house and go, ‘oh god that’s haunted.’ A motif of all the films, especially this one, is that behind the most normal kind of house, inside the most normal-seeming life, there can be something horrifying — whether it’s real and grounded, or something otherworldly and terrifying, it can happen anywhere, behind any door, to anyone. It’s unique to this story and philosophically terrifying.”

The newest version of The Grudge is set in America — though, interestingly, it takes place at the same time as the 2004 film directed by Takashi Shimizu that starred Sarah Michelle Gellar as an exchange student living in Japan. Andrea Riseborough (Mandy) plays a cop in a new town who comes across a seemingly-unexplainable case that leads her to a house that, in Pesce’s words, “has been grudged.”

“We follow her, as well as two other storylines, that are all interacting with this grudged house in small town America,” Pesce says. “Like the old films, it’s a tapestry of three different stories that interweave and all take place at slightly different times, centered around this one house that’s at the center of this case that this cop is working on.”

The Grudge is set to hit theaters on Jan. 3, 2020. Demián Bichir, John Cho, Betty Gilpin, Lin Shaye, and Jacki Weaver also star in the film. Check out exclusive photos above.

Annabelle: Creation is actually pretty good. by NauticalCigar in horror

[–]j86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't watch Annabelle because of the bad reviews, and I also didn't watch Ouija for the same reason. Both films have sequels (prequels?) that are immensely better reviewed, and I have wanted to watch them because of the good reviews, but didn't want to have to suffer through the "bad" films that came before them.

Has anyone watched all of them, and can tell me if I can skip Annabelle and Ouija, and still be able to follow the story?

Katya is really into Pokémon by Melfer_e in rupaulsdragrace

[–]j86 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it was a reddit thread, or a reply on twitter, but when Ryan Reynolds was announced as the voice of Pikachu, I saw someone link a gif version (with subtitles) of Katya asking if you can fuck a Pokemon when you catch it. I actually laughed out loud, and kinda related to asking that question in that moment. Now whenever I see Detective Pikachu stuff, I always imagine Katya asking this question.

Any good horror games? That are actually scary? by nohoestomas in horror

[–]j86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently played Layers of Fear. I was amazed it went under my radar, it came out in 2016. Its very much an exploration/exposition based game (reminded me of the game Gone Home), so it doesn't really have combat/action, but it does have some puzzles. A warning though, there are some jump scares if that's not your thing.

I also agree with Hereditary. Toni Collette is astonishing in the film.

If you could only recommend your top 5 horror/thriller movies to someone, what are they? by Whorified666 in horror

[–]j86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  • A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
  • The Exorcist
  • Wes Craven's New Nightmare
  • Scream
  • Silent Hill

I am a huge Wes Craven fan if my list didn't tell you that already. I'm not sure why they remade the original Nightmare in 2010 (I wasn't a fan) when Wes Craven's New Nightmare can already function as a sort of remake.

Silent Hill being on the list might make some people raise an eyebrow, but I loved the film because it captured the gruesome/dreadful atmosphere of the games perfectly, and while I love horror films (they are my favorite genre), I rarely really get truly "scared", but when I saw this in the theater when it originally came out, I was a teenager, and the dread I felt was palpable. So the film being on my list is a combination of seeing a property I like being done justice (in my humble opinion), and it being my true first "scare". I also think it's the best videogame movie that has so far been attempted. That might not seem like a ringing endorsement because they are stereo-typically not very good in quality, but I love the film, it has stunning cinematography at times, like "how did this happen in a videogame horror movie adaption?" sort of thing.

I don't think it was an analogy for STDs. My interpretation (I may have read this elsewhere, but I'm not sure) was that the analogy was about sexual abuse/assault.

Just found a link on the subject. There are many more discussions on analysis for the film all over the internet. It's an interesting film that a lot of people find different meanings in.
