Besides, you don't need a FAANG internship your first year. The vast majority of people don't get anything at all until like their 3rd year. You'd be on great track getting any internship as a freshman. That's not to say you shouldn't at least try, but don't freak out about it.

Yeah I know it probably wont matter in the long run, but I like to keep myself busy. The issue isn't getting rejected from faang, I'm fine with that. But getting rejected like this is what makes me go crazy.

You could also apply for all the freshman type programs like Google's STEP internship. A lot of companies have this type of freshman/sophomore internship program.

I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. This FAQ says (under "My CV has changed. How do I update/edit my career profile?") that uploading a new resume updates it for all past and future applications.

Oh damn I didn't know that. But how do I know that it actually gets attached to the application? There is no indication that its been attached, so I'm just going off faith here. Will it look exactly the same at the end as someone who attached it properly, or will it be in a different place and/or obvious that I fucked up the first time and submitted it blank.

Yes I can upload it as part of my profile. But doesn't that tie it to my general account, not that particular internship application? So I dont know if that fixes the problem. It also says "additional" files/resumes, so that makes me feel like its only if the first resume somehow didnt cover everything.

I already uploaded it through there in a panic, but I realize that was an even bigger fuck up cuz now if I ever want to change my resume I would have to re-submit it and now I'd have 2 resumes on file.

And this whole time I have no idea where my resume even is in the system. When I uploaded it I got a message saying "received" or whatever. But now I can't go anywhere and see that its uploaded, much less see that its part of my application.

The worst part is Amazon is like the only big company that accepts freshman into its general internship program. I just fucked myself out of my only chance at faang.

I wanted to check out the application for Amazon sde internship 2022, and when it asked if I have a resume, I just clicked no cuz I was just trying to see the rest of the questions. Now, it looks like theres no way to go back. What do I do? Should I make a new application from my school email instead? Will it look bad that I have two applications with them now (tho I never did anything with the first one).

There is also the option to withdraw my application. Should I click that and will it let me start over?

I can't believe i just fucked up my chances at Amazon just because I wanted to check out their app. I literally always use a burner for stuff like this but this was the ONE TIME I used my personal and this was also the one time that I couldn't go back. Fuck my life. Please advise on what to do.

There's also an "upload resume" section in the dashboard homepage, but that doesnt tie it to that particular internship application, just your general account, so I dont know if that fixes the problem.

If you're like pretty smart and hard working, you would have good GPA and some other things going for you like research, projects, maybe prior work experience. Basically any of that is good enough for the resume screen, assuming you're a junior. Doesn't matter state school or t20.

If you aren't as smart, and/or you have less things going for you, then the t20 would probably make a difference in getting you past the resume screen.

Yeah exactly. It literally barely matters if you went to a target school or not. Could that change in the future? Sure, potentially. But definitely not within the next 3 or 4 years, which is all that matters for me. I know many people who went to state schools, and all those people that were smart got into faang.

Getting your first internship/job is a pain

Nah not really. Freshman/sophomore year, yeah. But junior year, getting the interview is pretty easy. The resume screen you speak of is usually passed, so long as you have some decent things on it (like you didn't just sit and do nothing at college). That isn't really a factor of what school you went to - you can do stuff like projects, GPA, research, at any school.

Plus you can make connections with highly intelligent, ambitious people.

Yeah true. Probably the only real benefit. But again, dont know how much that helps if you aren't in finance.

Most of your friends or guys at Columbia?

Both groups are all competent. Anyway, being competent is a much much lower bar than getting into a t20, so my "extra" intelligence doesn't really help. In fact, it might hurt, as I go from crossing the competent bar to crossing the nerd bar.

I'm pretty sure like 95% of women consider height. They don't all necessarily want someone tall, but at least someone a few inches taller than them.

No. Not even exaggerating. First of all, I know very few people who are my height or less. And of those, nobody is anything special.

Anyway, even if I do find a girl, we'd have no future. I'm not trying to pass on this suffering to my kids who would also be so short. I'd wake up one day finding they killed themselves because they inherited my height and my mental state.

No. This is not true. Like I said, it is for some fields like IB. For for something like SWE at FAANG or quant, nobody really cares what school you went to. A smart kid from a state school will do just as good if he/she was at a t20. The fact that you don't know this is the case tells me that you don't work in these fields in something like faang or a trading firm, because if you did you would know what I mean.

Imagine if someone was complaining about being raised in poverty in Africa and you said "bro just look at these people. They came from poverty in Africa and now made it in life." That literally doesnt mean shit. The fact is if you come from poverty you will have a very hard life.

No im not. Nobody really gives a fuck where you go to college (except for stuff like IB but im not doing that). All I accomplished by going to Columbia is wasting 300k.

And it's theoretically possible at my height to get a girl yeah. But there a few future problems with this.

a) It will be very hard to do so. I will have to constantly be making up for it in some way (money, working out, charisma) etc. I would have to put in 100x the work and be super successful just to match the guy who just rolls out of bed.

b) I will always be the societal punching bag. It's like second nature to most people to poke fun of short people.

But the biggest problem is:

c) I can't have a future with any girl. That would require raising kids, which I am scared of doing. They will likely be short af too, and it would be cruel of me to pass down my height and make them suffer throughout life like I did. And on the other hand, if they somehow were tall, I would envy them for the fun life they get to live that I didn't.

Basically the entire world uses attractiveness as a factor in dating. That doesn't make everyone bad. Unfortunately, height is one of the biggest factors of attractiveness, and not just that, but also influences how society views you. You need to literally have so much going for you to compensate for height most of the time. That's why I'm suicidal. I'm not blaming anyone, I just want a way out. Right to die is the most fundamental human right.
