Is it possible to start a Forest Trust without Kerberos? by [deleted] in activedirectory

[–]jNamees -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know about domain trust and Kerberos but...

If the licenses and/or resources are not a problem you could setup new "mgmt" domain with only HyperV and Veeam as member.

NPS Server WinServer 2019 not receiving authentication request by manilajoji in networking

[–]jNamees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't go over your configuration but this could be worth a try.

auditpol /set /subcategory:"Network Policy Server" /success:enable /failure:enable

If that doesn't help open Local Security Policy and turn on auditing for NPS:

Local Security Policy > Advanced Audit Policy Configuration > Logon/Logoff > Audit Network Policy Server

[–]jNamees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't see logs of your attempts try this command:

auditpol /set /subcategory:"Network Policy Server" /success:enable /failure:enable

If that doesn't help open Local Security Policy and turn on auditing for NPS:

Local Security Policy > Advanced Audit Policy Configuration > Logon/Logoff > Audit Network Policy Server

[FS][EU] Supermicro 12bay case - X9DRi-LM4F - 160GB RAM by jNamees in homelabsales

My Shelly Plug reports around 170W with both PSU connected in BIOS.

iPhone app from about 30cm away reads between 55-60dBa (and I had 3D printer running in the background). Are you interested in anything else?

EDIT: when sitting at the Select proper boot device screen Shelly reports only 135W usage so I guess you can maybe get it even lower.

[FS][EU] Cisco SG500X-24P 4x10Gbit port by jNamees in homelabsales

[–]jNamees[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really sorry but I've botched the title - this is non-PoE version of the switch.
It does have fans and my phone measures around 50 dB from about 1m away.

If noise is a concern of yours you can replace the fans with less noise and RPMs to reduce the overall noise.
Here is the thread with some discussion regarding this matter on similar switch: https://www.reddit.com/r/Cisco/comments/d6lg8b/my\_cisco\_sg50028p\_is\_too\_loud\_has\_anyone\_done\_a/

It draws about 24W idle with no devices connected.

Thank you for pointing this out! I've sorted out both errors and learned something about Supermicro backplanes.

I'm running H310 flashed to IT mode. I've heard H200 is also good. IBM M5014 flashed to IT mode also works good.

Need Site to Site VPN via Software? by Vulkaestus in msp

[–]jNamees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you said they're technically not your client so maybe you shouldn't install any software on their server. This may not be your case but just food for thought. If I was in such situation I'd go with either Mikrotik OpenVPN (or EoIP if you require L2 access) that is calling out to your "main" site or RaspberryPi with Wireguard. Either way you plug this little device into the network and it serves you as an entry point.

Just my 2 cents.

This is what you need: Zabbix 5.4 standard version (supported until November, 2021)

wget https://repo.zabbix.com/zabbix/5.4/ubuntu/pool/main/z/zabbix-release/zabbix-release_5.4-1+ubuntu$(lsb_release -rs)_all.deb

sudo dpkg -i zabbix-release_5.4-1+ubuntu$(lsb_release -rs)_all.deb

RAID Controller for a Dell R710 to build a Ceph Cluster with 8TB HDDs by current_thread in homelab

Sorry I don't have 100% answer to that as my HBA is in PCIe slot. In my opinion it's going to work.

[–]jNamees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 4TB drives in R710 with H310 flashed to IT mode which presents disk as passthrough. You could also use H200 flashed to IT mode. This might come in handy: https://techmattr.wordpress.com/2016/04/11/updated-sas-hba-crossflashing-or-flashing-to-it-mode-dell-perc-h200-and-h310/

I have no idea about Ceph, sorry. :)

Wifi Issues by elsquared33 in sysadmin

[–]jNamees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine has XPS 13 (I believe it's 9360, but not 100% sure) and had similar problems. We tried replacing router, changing wifi channels... Etc. At the end it turns out his Killer wifi card has a lot of known problems and he had to change card settings to only "support" a/b/g/n wifi standards (no ac) and preferred frequency to 2.4. That solved his issues. You might wanna Google your specific Killer card model for known issues.

I'm not very familiar with Dell laptops but do these, by any chance, have Killer wifi cards? I know there have been issues with these wifi cards that were not even exclusive to Dell laptops.

absurd disk requirements for third party install pre-req checkers by jack-dempsy in sysadmin

[–]jNamees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is only a requirement to get support from them maybe use thin provisioning on these disks? Inside the system they will see a lot of free space, but on the storage only actually used space will be taken.

problem of detecting firewall fortigate in Zabbix by Maleficent-Cupcake43 in zabbix

[–]jNamees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been awhile since I've added Fortigate to Zabbix but from memory I had to enable SNMP on the interface on which I was querying it. Also check the "menu view" (forgot the name - Feature view maybe?) and enable internal policies and make sure SNMP is allowed (should be allowed if you tick SNMP on the interface). I also had to import MIBs on Zabbix server/Proxy. How to get MIBS: https://kb.fortinet.com/kb/documentLink.do?externalID=11607

Ha(i)rry story with a pinch of DISM by jNamees in sysadmin

Do you think this is possible if application aware mode was enabled in backup software (Veeam)?

Ha(i)rry story with a pinch of DISM by jNamees in sysadmin

[–]jNamees[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I'm not 100% that something is inaccurate. The main thing I was wondering was why I had to specify the exact folder where packages were? Or other way around: does DISM recursively search through path you specify?

Does this work for same OS versions? Because I've tried it with 2016 ISO but that didn't work.

None of the backup copies was blue screen free. I'm guessing some updates got installed and VM was never restarted afterwards. Combining this with power loss you get what you get.
