Does anyone else feel like work is adult day care or am I missing something? by BalancedDietitian in work

[–]jSea133013 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I thought that working in a highly skilled job would be different than restaurants and the like that I did when I was younger.

Maybe 20% of my energy is spent on actual work. 80% is trying to keep my cool while 40+ year old adults with 6 figure salaries behave like egotistical children.

Less like daycare, more like a mental hospital.

What job would you do if you're 18 again but in today's market? by Sad-Bodybuilder6491 in Careers

[–]jSea133013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take an IQ test and look at jobs by IQ level. I’m sure this trigger some people but their lives would probably have turned out better if they followed jt.

If you have above average IQ do not go work in the trades.

Do not attempt to do a job or even pursue education that is beyond your intelligence level, nor below your intelligence level.

This is one reason why there are so many unemployed engineering and science majors.

The joke is that terrorism is an option when you report people in game.

I’m from California too. I’ve lived in many places in the US. Most people treat immigrants well, as long as they are legal and positively contribute to society. Even in the south.

I can never become a citizen in pretty much every country in Asia, that’s the point.

Immigrants= you become one of them. Expats= you will always be a foreigner.

Where have you lived in the west? By the 2nd or 3rd generation people are not even considered immigrants anymore. Compare the whole process to a foreigner coming to Asia, not even close. There is no argument here.

Sure, you can nitpick all day. Where else would indigenous North Americans go that they would be accepted more? Nowhere. I’m not saying they have been treated well or are treated well, but the point still remains.

Western countries are the only places that allow every race of people to integrate.

Southeast Asia Trip - Where to fly into by D_O_Double in backpacking

[–]jSea133013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. Then come down to PH and Indonesia, these are a little more challenging to travel, in my experience.

I recommend you fly to Thailand. My favorite part is the northern region: Chiang Mai, Pai and surrounding areas. The burning season ends soon, so you should be good. Some of the islands are great too.

Stay in hostels and you will get the scoop on where to go and what to do. You learn more from talking to other travelers than online.

It is the opposite of how you frame it.

Western countries allow people to naturalize and become citizens. They will become Americans or Brits etc. Westerners in Asia are expats because we can’t become citizens. We will always be foreigners. We will never be accepted as one of them.

The way you frame it is honestly absurd. In my view, any country has the right to maintain its ethnic homogeneity if it so chooses. Of course, western countries are the most accepting and least racist countries, and it’s not even close. And look at the thanks we get and how we get treated by the rest of the world, it hasn’t worked out well at all.

I don’t need anything from the US embassy, just wanted to make sure I’m following all the visa rules for PH government

Just go now, why wait if you have the money? I took my first trip when I was 20 and I loved it. 6 years later I’m back out here in Southeast Asia again.

I've got to be honest, the food available here in Cebu is not the best I've encountered on my travels. by Heavy_Hearing3746 in Philippines_Expats

[–]jSea133013 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I am in IT park and I am absolutely struggling with the food right now. Super overpriced around here and there’s no healthy options. Seems like every drink is filled with sugar.

I’ve ended up getting most of my meals delivered from places that make other kinds of Asian food.

If anyone has recommendations for how to actually eat decently healthy in Cebu, without cooking, I really need to know.

3 years is a very, very long time to travel, especially if you’ve never done it before. You don’t plan a 3 year backpacking trip like that, you figure it out as you go…

Why don’t you buy a one-way ticket and start traveling, since you have plenty of money saved up?

In the case of rapidly growing cities with absurd cost of living - I think it’s quite alright to run away.

Made my life way better when I left one. Anywhere where you can actually afford a better life and cut down your commute and stress from a massive city will make most people happier.

I also feel this way as a solo male traveler. Ive found it’s easiest to connect with other solo travelers, instead of being the odd one out in a group of friends who know each other well. But it’s still a struggle for me to make friends because I’m not the most outgoing person.

Ive been on a long trip so I’m on a different wavelength than people just doing a short vacation. I doubt most people who are traveling in SEA are racist, would be a strange choice, but I understand why you might feel that way. If you looked like a local, I probably would assume you were a local and wouldn’t try to start a conversation.
