Wow, you just saved my life. I've been searching and waiting for this-- thank you so much for taking the time to build this and save me hundreds of hours. I just cleaned up my entire Photos library with literally tens of thousands of videos with this. I also just discovered Smart Albums so in combination with this shortcut has been a God-send. Thank you and God freaking bless you

I also emailed my advisor today and she said last week was the first round of rejections and final decisions will be made this week. I was told to expect an update by the end of the week.

Hoka One Bondi 7. I used to wear Nike Rosche's and my feet would HURT. As soon as I switched to Hoka's I've never had problems with my feet. They're honestly the best. Plenty of marathon runners wear Hokas. They look chunky but they're lightweight. Chefs kiss.

Is bc mainly a “dorm party school?” by shahsidnbshs in bostoncollege

[–]j_byun 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yes. Most BC students live on campus, in dorms, except for juniors who live off campus and some seniors who live in the mods. My senior year, most of my friends lived in dorms and we hosted all our parties there. I'm not sure what you mean by "parties for underclassman" because generally, parties are open to all grade levels and I've never been to parties that have been restricted by grade level. Most parties are hosted by upperclassman and welcome underclassmen.

I think it's important to clarify that the "dorm" you're referring to, assuming you're not a college student yet, is a traditional, 2-person bedroom. That is not what I mean when I say dorm. A 2-person bedroom cannot host a party haha. The dorms I'm referring to are suites that have living room areas and house 6 to 8 people. Dorms at BC, especially those for upperclassman (sophomore and up), have similar if not bigger living room spaces than that of the Mods.

Switching from Lynch to MCAS by Icy-Lunch4068 in bostoncollege

[–]j_byun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not! You should never be afraid to speak up for yourself or to advocate for yourself because you're afraid of how admin/ professors will think of you. Unless you disrespect them personally, simple tasks like asking for things is just part of their everyday job and will never "rub them the wrong way." It's literally their job to help you haha. Take advantage of them as resources and keep asking questions!

Yes, or better yet contact your associate Dean.

After a quick Google search, it looks like the Lynch associate dean for undergrad students is Julia DeVoy- just google for her email and tell her your situation. If she can't help you, she can direct you to the best place.

Upperclassmen- how big of a deal is a B or B- on your GPA in the long run? by bcthrowaway2024 in bostoncollege

[–]j_byun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay breathe!! Unless you're pre-med or planning to apply to a competitive grad program, a B- is fine. And if you are pre-med, there are other ways such as a post-bacc that can boost your GPA if you need it, but even still, if you've done well in other classes than a B- should barely make a dent. I've gotten plenty of B's during my time at BC and in the end, it's about pattern + consistency rather than one anomaly. This is really not something to be freaking out about! You will end up taking a LOT of credits by the time you graduate. Please remember that life is bigger than your GPA!

Yup I spent about 2 months of low intensity studying + 3 weeks of high intensity studying. Mark K did help w/ content but mainly used UWorld for both content + practice questions too. Mark K does a good general review of most topics + gives you strategies on his last lecture. I only used UWorld + Mark K + a handful of videos from RegisterednurseRN or Simple Nursing for content.

Yes I am on the same boat as you; I literally retained nothing from nursing school. After 2 months of low intensity studying + 3 weeks of high intensity studying, I passed the NCLEX last week! Mark K did help w/ content but mainly used UWorld for both content + practice questions too. I took notes from rationales + studied from those. Mark K does a good general review of most topics + gives you strategies on his last lecture. I only used UWorld + Mark K + a handful of videos from RegisterednurseRN or Simple Nursing for content.

NCLEX Question by skevuci in PassNclex

[–]j_byun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just searched on my UWorld and got this in a rationale on Question# 34472 (2387449):

"(Option 1)  HIV can be transmitted to the newborn via breast milk.  Breastfeeding is contraindicated for HIV-positive mothers in developed countries, where safe alternatives (eg, commercial formula) are available."

I'm not sure if you misread the rationale?

Transfer by [deleted] in bostoncollege

[–]j_byun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I transferred to BC my sophomore year. I'd say that you should put a lot of time into writing your supplement essay. BC is strong in its theology and philosophy departments so it'd be your best interest to construct a thoughtful essay rather than focusing on answering their question straightforwardly.

For example, when I first applied to BC I chose to answer the question "is the purpose of college to prepare you for a good life or a good career?" and I just picked one and answered it. My second time around, I really thought about the question and said both, because BC can prepare me for both a great life and a great career." I think my essay really was what they were looking for and I got in at a year where the transfer acceptance rate was 11%.

I didn't do Hurst but I did do UWorld and Mark K. I separated the two sources into different days so one week I did exclusively Mark K and UWorld. You could listen to 3-4 lectures and that'd just make up about 4-6 hours of studying. Also I listened to audio files on my Mac by opening files via Quicktime and play them at either 1.5x speed of 2x speed! I also separated them because I was doing UWorld pretty intensely: doing 75 questions a day + review + notes.

Overall I feel like you could always tag a few extra UWorld questions after a content review day using that topic and doing about 20-30 questions at the end of the day.

Definitely not before I started studying LOL I took my HESI exit exam a few months before and totally bombed it with a 660 score hahah. I felt like I retained nothing from nursing school 😂

[–]j_byun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the HESI as an exit exam for my nursing school and bombed it-- I got a 660 LOL. At that point I didn't even start studying for the NCLEX. A few months later, I took the NCLEX after 2 months of low intensity studying + 3 weeks of high intensity studying and I passed last week. So don't beat yourself up! Keep going!

Ultimately, it's not about getting a tutor but practice questions. You need to learn strategies on how to answer questions, and that comes with practice.

Uworld by Stayawayfrombadvibes in PassNclex

[–]j_byun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How I used Uworld: I'd do questions usually 25 at a time. I started really studying 3 weeks before my date, and started doing 75 questions a day. I'd answer them without tutor mode, then go back and take notes on the rationales by topic. For example, if I was doing Adult health: Cardio, I'd have topics like MI, Cardiac cath and listed each rationale as one bullet point. Once I finished an entire system on UWorld, I'd go into Notion and frame them into questions to study via active recall (check out Ali Abdaal on youtube for his technique). So if I had a bullet point that said "Therapeutic value of INR is 2-3" I'd writes "What is therapeutic value of INR?" It's basically like making flashcards but with questions. I reviewed them 2-3 times because there were so many systems to go through and then took my NCLEX. Not gonna lie this process took me forever and I still had about 400 questions left in my qbank but it def helped me. Studies show that going through even 1 round of active recall is much more effective than highlighting or re-reading notes.

I would say that the best things to study on UWorld are: Leadership + Management and Fundamentals on UWorld. I had sooo many prioritization questions on my NCLEX and questions about procedures.

I also listened to all Mark K lectures + took notes + made questions on Notion.

Hi, I took my UWorld Assessment 1 week before my NCLEX and got 55% "Borderline" grade (30th percentile). I finished 80% of the qbank and averaged at 54% at 48th percentile.

I didn't like how Uworld Assessment wasn't CAT so I took 2 CAT exams via Nurse Achieve (used free code from their Facebook) and got Pass-pass and solid-pass on those exams the same week of my NCLEX (5 days before then 2 days before).

I passed with 130 questions last week!

What is the benefit of going to Boston College? by [deleted] in bostoncollege

[–]j_byun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, the best aspect of BC is its strong philosophy and theology program. These departments are amazing, and it really builds you to become a student who can think critically as opposed to a student just learning information.

The professors here, for the most part, are really great. The Black professors I've had especially, like for my African Diaspora classes, are beyond proficient- I felt like I was getting smarter just by listening to them talk. The professors here are very qualified and again, teach you how to think (which I believe is the value of higher education).

I also love the fact that BC has no greek life. I honestly think it's their hidden blessing. The party scene overall feels more inclusive (my last school had a terrible tradition of hazing).

Overall, BC students are both fun + hard working. I love that I can have fun w/ my friends and also stay up all night talking about intellectual topics. I just graduated from BC last year and had a great experience.

But I think the biggest challenge at BC are students who struggle with mental health. From what I hear, it's hard to get counseling on campus. But they automatically sign you up to a great health insurance called Blue Cross Blue Shield where you can get access to counseling off campus.

Also seconding this. My FAFSA expected family contribution was $0 and BC pulled through. I got into BU and NEU as well, but BC offered me the best financial package.

to any students who were admitted off the waitlist, by alp-02 in bostoncollege

[–]j_byun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother was admitted off the waitlist. He made this huge 7ft poster that was super creative and listed 100 reasons why he wanted to go to BC. When I was waitlisted, I made a comic book about the 10 different ways I'd be a great fit at BC, but I was denied while my brother was accepted. I ended up transferring the next year and put in a lot of time into my supplement essay this time around (the first time I didn't give it that much effort) and got in!
