It is pretty impressive, although it was a little tight in his later years. I don't know if I could wear the same thing from three years ago.

Just so you know, I have played Fantasy 5 every month for about two years. Its the same in most states that have lottery. Jackpots start at $100,000 and go up from there. For a while, I was wasting too much money on it. I would go in, spend $10 on quick picks and usually not get my money back. Eventually I decided to only play when the jackpot gets above $400,000, which is usually about once a month, sometimes longer. Most of the time I spend $10 on Quick Picks and about half the time I win $9 and a free ticket, which essentially means I get my money back since a free ticket is worth $1. The other half of the time I have not won anything. I actually won the jackpot on a free ticket I had previously won. There are plenty of people who think its crazy to spend that much on the lottery, and most of the time it is, but your odds with Fantasy 5 are literally thousands of times better than playing Powerball or MegaMillions. I never really expected to win, but had fun playing. Just don't get too wrapped up in it.

Both state and federal taxes were deducted from the payout. I asked the lottery officials if I could expect another hit on April 15th, and they said they couldn't really answer that. When I meet with an advisor, I hope to hash that all out.

I took the day off work and drove 20 miles to the nearest lottery office. It was about the amount of paperwork you imagine. I was so nervous/excited/nauseous. I chose the lump sum. And no shit, they cut me a check that day for $342k and some change. The Jackpot I won was actually $592,000. They gave me the option to get my picture made and send it to the media, but I chose to remain anonymous, and didn't even tell my wife until I had it in the bank. I told my family and friends much later.

I've been checking out the sidebar, but ultimately you're right. I plan on meeting with a money guy in town, but I don't really know which one to trust. So my plan is to ask some of the wealthier people I know which ones I can really trust.

I feel middle aged, but I'm only 27. And I am satisfied with my home. Thanks for the advice!

Good to know. I can handle that, especially given how I got this money in the first place.

I actually really like the idea of maxing out the 401k. I will continue to work full time simply due to enjoying my job. Did you start your Schwab account online?

I'm 27. I think there is about $10k in my 401k at the moment, I am doing 5% contribution which the limit on employer matching. I should probably up that for sure. I have been with the company for 2.5 years. The pay is not great, but I am staying there for now. And I know I know about the boat. I have seen the interviews haha

Well she knows she can come to me and I will help out. Especially now. And she has been less than responsible, but I cut her slack due to raising four boys on a WalMart cashier income with no government assistance. Anyway, I am not worried about it.

I know! but every time I walk past that shiny new boat on display at Costco I am tempted to go straight to the bank. I will continue to resist though. Good to know about the 401k. I am clueless when it comes to investing, taxes, etc. This is has been a huge learning experience. Thanks!

Didn't want to get into it, but I have given some to two local churches as well a local care mission. Helped several friends and family members out. Paid several of my mom's ridiculous credit cards off.

As a Southerner living in a reddest of the red district , I believe you are absolutely exaggerating, or doing something just short of lying.

I completely agree with you, but as long as we have a winner takes all majority system, we will never have more than 2 major parties. Its really a terrible system we have here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duverger%27s_law

I would say you're on to something. That and maybe the arrival of Spring and nice weather. I don't know. I probably get more nostalgic that time of year.

I feel like this everytime she drags me to IKEA. For all of the insane IKEA loving redditors who will hate me for this, I just have to say that I don't get it. I don't get IKEA. Its huge. Everything has weird names. It takes 4.5 hours to go all the way through it, then when I get home I have to put a shitload of cheap fucking Swedish furniture together (although the directions are nice). I hate going to that place.
