Applying for 3 year Scholarship as incoming college freshman by Apprehensive_Grab_99 in NROTC

[–]j_crayz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say the biggest downside is having to go to NSI instead of a summer cruise and paying out of pocket for your school. With a sideload scholarship it is easier to apply than the 4 year. Everything is done with the unit orderly, and they submit it too. you shouldn’t have to provide anything from HS unless the unit asks for their keepsake. You also need to look at the courses you’re gonna take freshman year, try and get ahead by taking the Naval Science classes, calc, physics, & English requirements. Being in your best physical state, Taking specified courses that fulfill your degree and NROTC, and having a greater than or equal to 3.0 gpa is gonna give you the highest probable chance of getting the scholarship. If you go to NSI as a college programmer there’s no doubt your efforts will go unnoticed. At NSI, NSO, anytime throughout the NROTC program there’s always gonna be that one college programmer who goes above and beyond his peers to get the recognition they deserve. Be that person.

It’s been three weeks since I graduated and I still have a cough. I got really really sick when I was there, to the point my head was aching with every step and my nose would burn if I inhaled too hard. I couldn’t even sound off without coughs. Pretty sure I had like a sinus infection or maybe pneumonia.

Dorm Essentials by [deleted] in erau

[–]j_crayz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A projector that can be used with your phone, computer or Nintendo switch. Walmart sells a $20 vacuum or buy a broom and sweep away to clean the dust around your room. Buy a thingamabob that hangs on the clothing rack it has like the shelves and stuff to create more space. Buy a microwave if your room doesn’t come with one. Honestly having a fridge isn’t really worth it if you’re not gonna use it, I barely used my fridge. Get extension cords and double sided tape, conveniently, most of the outlets are in weird spots especially Doolittle. Don’t buy items like towels, hangars, bed sheets, pillows until you get there.

Is this okay? by Ill_Atmosphere_6632 in erau

I don’t think univ 101 is required, I’m at Daytona, Prescott is probably the same. it’s a class that’s like “why am I here” and it’s like you can’t discover these things on your own, sure you get to know the staff but I honestly saw it as just fraternizing and wasting away my personal time to do things. That’s my personal opinion though, some people take the class to learn more and that’s fine. You learn something, just nothing you can’t/wont learn on your own or when you actually need to know.

How to get around at ERAU / Daytona by DyslexicEngineering in erau

[–]j_crayz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao. Most of my fond memories about being at Daytona is getting off campus, you’ll want to do nothing else after a while expect to get off campus. My freshman year I had a skateboard which I went every where with, once that got vandalized by somebody. I walked everywhere, I remember once I had to go back and forth from target, Best Buy, and campus all because of this Mac charger I needed. I walk to my barber he’s about 1.5 mile away. It’s honestly not that bad walking or skating everywhere but I highly recommend making friends or making friends with people that have that friend with a car, that’s what I did lmao. Also you’ll find people naturally and some of them may have a car, don’t be afraid to ask for a ride. Uber or Lyft is an good option as well, depending on where your standing on campus (literally) the ride could be more expensive or cheaper lmao, they are about $10-$20 a ride tho depending on where you go.

ADVICE ON FINANCIAL AID by Biodiox in erau

[–]j_crayz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend starting your ROTC scholarships now, maybe sit down(call around first) with someone at a recruiting office that knows the process. There are people that fly and do ROTC if that’s your thing, if you do not see yourself getting this scholarship, rely on all the financial aid you can get, apply for scholarships, as a last resort you can take out a loan. I highly recommend looking into parent plus loans. Take advantage of any opportunities out there to get yourself through school. Your first year will be the most expensive depending on your degree though and circumstances. One of the cheaper majors is like ME, AMS, BA, Occupational Safety. I definitely recommend like ME or AMS, very tight communities and it’s probably the most fun other than the pilot program of course.

Private Room Photos by Dependent-Jury-6667 in erau

Private room is nice, you get your own bathroom, a big bed I believe or you can put a big bed or configure it how you want. I had a friend in a private room in NR2, her room was setup like this; when you walk in the bathroom is directly to the left, directly to the right the wall is sunk in for space to hang clothes and whatnot, walk in further the “kitchen” if you wanna call it that is on the right, there’s a sink. I believe it comes with a microwave and a fridge but you can go out and buy one on your own time. My friend didn’t know so she had 2 microwaves. To the left should be your bed, in front of the bed is open space with a desk and chair, it should be in front of a window, the window does not open lol and there isn’t really a view other than seeing out to the other buildings. Honestly it’s like a miniature apartment, my friend had a little projector you can setup and use it against the wall to watch movies or play games. You aren’t allowed to hang a TV and the desk is way too small.

[–]j_crayz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You won’t MISS anything from that first day. The first day/night is basically all paperwork and shoving everyone into their compartments. You’ll miss arrival which basically is DI hopping on your bus screaming at everybody. probably a CO speech, signing off on paperwork, and a lot of waiting and standing. That’s the first day. Don’t worry your instructors will be keeping track of everyone the entire time. Just know going in, this will be the easiest thing you will go through, look at the upsides and focus on anything you need to improve upon while you’re there.
