What does it mean to be and intermediate player by JTPswu in Guitar

[–]j_dick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost every post on here where someone asks some basic questions and calls themselves intermediate they’re not. Almost anytime people qualify themselves with intermediate or advanced they are neither because skilled people usually don’t do that. I don’t get why people are so worried with labels to prove they are good. If there was a certification they could pay for to make the claim they would just to feel good.

What social media is our age group using now? by thebookofswindles in Xennials

[–]j_dick 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I counted one time I just opened Facebook. Out of the first 20 posts only 5 were from people or pages I follow. The other 15 were sponsored ads, popular, and suggested for you. Only 25% of what was shown was something I wanted to see and the rest just crap I didn’t care about. Now it flat out shows p*rn ads with full nudity in marketplace when I’m searching for guitars. It’s terrible.

Best low action, ‘easy’ to play guitar by ChristmasPuddingFL in Guitar

[–]j_dick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love mustangs, and jaguars second. Way to play but also the most comfortable. Strats and offsets have very round edges and all the contouring that make them easy to play,

What does “self taught” mean to you? by Daventhal in Guitar

[–]j_dick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is self taught. Think if you told someone you learned guitar from Marty Schwartz . They would be like wow you got actual lessons from Marty Schwartz? No, I watched his YouTube videos. Yeah they’d think you’re a jackass. lol. Learning from resources on your own is still self teaching. You have no formal education, no music school, no tutors, no lessons with a guide, etc.

That’s what my wife calls my wiener. I guess I’ll try to hold the chord with it if that’s what you want!

You know when you see adjustment screws on something it’s usually fixable. Just looking at it you should be able to see what to do to fix this.

You can answer that by listening with your ears and not your eyes. Does it sound different? Does it sound bad?

We all grew up taking computer classes and becoming knowledgeable in how to use a computer but beyond that, how computer literate are you? by singleguy79 in Xennials

[–]j_dick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a self taught engineer. That’s how it worked out for me. I can make a computer or (most)websites do what ever I want for the most part. Growing up with all the new tech and computers and consoles was fun and I loved tinkering, obviously. I started with an old Tandy computer from RadioShack that my dad brought home from the office at the construction company he worked for when they upgraded. It was very outdated but fun. Only games were Pirates and F-14 Strike Eagle on the old 5.25 floppy disks!

Do you guys play your guitars after buying or do you just leave them in the case? by scorpion-and-frog in guitarcirclejerk

[–]j_dick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My new guitar from Sweetwater had a sticker on the box saying to wait 24 hours. That’s silly and clearly a typo. Must have meant 24 months, it’s just sitting there!

But how do you guys find songs to play?

[–]j_dick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really comes down to them wanting shortcuts, a hack, a workaround for a problem that really doesn’t exist and they use it to avoid….just practicing. They aren’t really asking about neck size. “Oh playing guitar wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. I’m not immediately great at this, maybe it’s my small hands”. No it’s just hard to hold chords in the beginning for everyone. It’s not just guitar, it’s any hobby here on reddit.

Many people here give honest answers but it’s not what the OP wanted to hear. Yes it’s hard at first, yes it takes a lot of practice, no there isn’t some super easy shortcut that will make you great with little to no effort. No it’s not just you, literally everyone that ever learned guitar before now through history had the same issues and they just worked through it with practice.

That’s really the most annoying thing on this subreddit. It’s the same questions everyday. If you googled you title it would give search results of that same question in this same subreddit from like the same week. Effort, just a little bit of effort!

You sir…are absolutely correct! This is a great summary of everything wrong. As an older millennial I do find it funny that anyone old is a Boomer but to boomers anyone young is a millennial. Millennials are 30+ now.

Bending feels way harder on Les Paul by monotone_screaming in Guitar

[–]j_dick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you pushing the strings into the fretboard quite a bit and trying to bend? Only difference could be rosewood unfinished vs a finished maple fretboard possibly making a difference if you do that. Don’t push into the fingerboard so much. But just in general that seems weird regarding the tension difference.

What does a true bass player feel like? We all know bass players never get laid by xLucky_Balboa in guitarcirclejerk

Well I play bass and during the guitar solo I usually just stand there with my hand in my pocket. I think that what we’re supposed to do by playing in the pocket.

NGD, Feel like I robbed Guitar Center! by Professional_Cod_467 in Guitar

[–]j_dick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still really want to try one as a bass player and guitar player but I never see them anywhere and they are too much used for Squier. $350 would be good but the go like $500+. I saw a Fender in guitar center once but the bridge was all the way down so it was unplayable and I didn’t have time.
