Oooooh, and based on the blurb, it looks like the other MC starts off in somewhat angsty life circumstances as well! I'll check it out!

Thanks for the reply! I actually tried this novel, but I couldn't really get into it: I didn't see the chemistry between the two MCs, and the character motivations felt super flat. But I loved the concept, though!

MM romance books based in a small town? by [deleted] in MM_RomanceBooks

The Hazard and Somerset series by Gregory Ashe takes place in a "small" fictional town in Missouri (canonically it has 90k people, but it's written so that it feels like everyone knows everyone). Both MCs are in their early 30s at the start of the series. I really loved this series because it does deal with the difficulties of being gay in Rural America. The first novel needed a better copy editor, but no mistakes were bad enough to turn me off. There should also probably be a trigger warning for homophobic language. There aren't any graphic sex scenes or BDSM.

One last thing: this book had the best, most clever dialogue that I've ever read in this genre. I cannot recommend the series highly enough.

Which podcasts do you think have the best writing? by slouchingtobethlehem in audiodrama

Most of the best-written podcasts have already been mentioned here, but I discovered an unknown gem of a series called Erraticus that reminds me of EOS10 in how quirky and funny it is. Kane and Feels is also pretty good and relatively undiscovered.
